Sort of a boring day for the Giants as they played four days ago now, have six days until their next game, and they didn’t even practice today. So, let’s take a look at what lies ahead of the 2008 New York Football Giants.
It would be a shock if the Giants did not win at St. Louis on Sunday and after that they play Cincinnati at home before having a bye in Week 4. But after the bye, the Giants come back to play Seattle, Cleveland, and San Francisco. It isn’t until Week 8 when they play Pittsburgh that the G-Men face an actual contender and they follow Pittsburgh with Dallas and Philadelphia.
It isn’t unreasonable to think that the Giants could be undefeated heading into Week 8 against the Steelers, which would make them 7-0. However, anyone who has watched a full season of Giants football knows that with the ridiculous penalties the team commits and their inability to put the opposition away when given the chance, that is actually very unlikely for the Giants to get off to such an incredible start like 7-0.
Before the season I thought the Giants would put up a 10-6 record (the same as last year), but after carefully reviewing my prediction a little more, I think the Giants can actually be better than a 10-6 team.
If 10 wins guarantees you a playoff spot (which it will) then the Giants have to go 9-6 in their remaining games to play football in January.
Say the G-Men post a 4-2 division record. Then they would need to go 6-4 in their other games. With opponents being St. Louis, Cincinnati, Seattle, Cleveland, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Arizona, Carolina, Minnesota. Are there six wins in there? I would say so, and I would think there are actually more than six wins in there in the even that the Giants don’t go 4-2 in the NFC East.
What it comes down to is the fact that the Giants toughest games of the season come in Weeks 9, 10, 14, and 15. And who are those games against? Dallas and Philadelphia. And it just so happens they have them back-to-back both times.
If this isn’t enough to prove that the NFC East is with a doubt the toughest division in the NFL, then I don’t know what is. But I know one thing. The Giants will be in the playoffs come January and it will be because of the damage they do on their in the 10 games outside the division.
