Out of all of Brett Favre’s comeback wins, today we might have witnessed his biggest miracle yet. When everybody but ol’ No. 4 himself had counted the Vikings out, Favre engineered a beautiful last-minute, game-winning drive. The drive culminated in a bullet strike to Greg Lewis in the back of the endzone with two seconds remaining. Favre showed amazing pocket presence on the play, and also showed that he can still fireball it in there when he needs to. I still can’t believe this. How many freakin’ comebacks can one man possibly have in him? One over-the-hill man at that?
Lewis making an amazing leaping catch in traffic and getting both feet down in the back of the endzone was just as amazing as the throw. Sound the horn! The Vikings are now 3-0 and, along with the Giants, have to be one of the two favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Ironic that this was against the 49ers, too, because this was definitely shades of Montana to Clark. Just an instant classic of a finish. I think it’s safe to say that right now Brett Favre is more popular than Kirby Puckett and Prince combined in Minnesota.
Check out the fantastic finish for yourself.
