Never have dueling shades been so iconic. During a U2 performance of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” at the MTV Europe Music Awards, Bono introduced the “Mayor of New York” to a frenzied crowd. That’s when the one-and-only Hov came out of nowhere to kick a freestyle over the guitar riffs. Jay-Z led the freestyle into a chant of Bob Marley’s “Get Up, Stand Up” in honor of the Berlin Wall’s demolition, a chant which Bono soon joined.
The collaboration happened right in front of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate. With the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall just days away (November 9), the tribute couldn’t have been more timely. We get flossed-out, going-through-the-motions Jigga way too often, but this was Jay at his scathing lyrical best. It seems Bono just has a knack for bringing out the best in people. Check out the video performance everybody’s buzzing about after the jump…
