While the world was stuck waiting around for another Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals, some future NBA stars were trying to impress scouts at the Draft Combine. And a few helped their stocks and others didn’t so much and you can be sure that the Nuggets…

Tappin’ In
Written by Scott Tunstall | May 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Inside the Iggles (Eagles), NFL
As the Eagles prepare to start another offseason mini-camp, I’m going to continue to keep a watchful eye on defensive end Darryl Tapp. Since his arrival in Philly, Reid and Co. have been primarily playing him as the number two right end behind Trent Cole. I’m interested to see if this trend continues.
Since drafting Brandon Graham in the first-round of the draft, the left defensive end spot became a bit more clear. For now Juqua Parker remains the starter, but by all accounts Graham should push him when training camp kicks off, provided the number one pick has inked a [...]
Jason Heyward Really Does Walk on Water
Written by Tom Smith | May 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Rum Bunter (Pirates)
Does Jason Heyward of the Atlanta Braves really walk on water? After leading the Braves weekend sweep of the Bucs it sure appears that way.
Heyward hit a 414 foot bomb with his first swing at bat in the majors and hasn’t stopped hitting since. Y…

Is Huntington Shopping for Starting Pitching?
Written by Tom Smith | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Rum Bunter (Pirates)
Ahh, the PhotoShop junk pile. Heading into the 2010 season, the Pirates front office felt the starting pitching was a strength. Looking back, the signs were pointing to it not being the case.
This offseason we looked at the pitching to determine what to expect. We spent a long time analyzing Charlie Morton with our article Smells Like Charlie Morton. Zach Duke was red hot to start last season, but not so much in the second half. Paul Maholm pitched hurt. Ross Ohlendorf showed signs of regression, then spent the offseason in D.C, he hasn’t pitched well all year. The fifth starter [...]
Moss will finish career as his own agent
Written by jamie | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Musket Fire (New England Patriots)
Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss has decided to part ways with his long-time agent Tim DiPiero, a man who has been around Randy since Moss was in high school. Instead of hiring a new agent, Moss will instead finish his career acting as his own agent. Former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi also served as his own agent later in his career. DiPiero himself broke the news of Moss acting as his own agent, and there are apparently no hard feelings between the two:
“Randy has talked to me for a while about finishing his career without an agent and recently [...]
30-20: Sweeping Ugly
Written by Erin | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Puckett's Pond (Twins)
(Oh Fangraphs, how would I ever write game recaps without you?)
Of course I am talking about Denard Span’s spectacular tumbling catch right into Orlando Hudson’s knee (and Hudson’s subsequent glove to DSPAN’s groin, inspiring the greatest postgame quote ever). Hudson initially spent a lot of time crumpled on the ground, but it looks like he’ll be OK (UPDATE: Hudson is having x-rays on his wrist Eep). Also ugly: Scott Ullger’s decision to send Kubel from second on a single by Delmon Young, with two outs in the seventh. Now, in context, it wasn’t a terrible decision. [...]
NFL: Proposing a Change; Modify the Interception
Written by Andrew Auger | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | 12th Man Rising (Seahawks)
Too long have I had to witness so many interceptions occur because a guy slips and falls, or a pass gets tipped off the shoulder of a receiver.
For too long have I played Madden and had an interception tacked onto my quarterbacks stat sheet because a ball literally went through my receivers hands.
Interceptions are cirumstancial, sometimes the quarterback screws up, sometimes the receiver screws up, sometimes the defense just makes a fantastic play.
Why should all circumstances punish the quarterback?
I propose we modify how the NFL rules an interception.
Not a radical change, but a tweaking is certainly in order, the statistic [...]
Eric Fehr Movie?

Good ole Twitter alerted me to this. Eric Fehr just linked to a video of what appears to be a fake movie trailer for a movie called “The Plains” with him in it. That’s all I know.

Memorial Day Message
Written by Tim Redinger | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Sabre Noise (Sabres)
While most are preparing to spend the following hours drinking and enjoying some BBQing with friends and family (as well as Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals), let us pause a moment and give thanks to all those who have served, veterans past and present who have given the last measure of devotion, those that have fought, bled, and died for the great principles, truths, and freedoms that this great country was founded on.
Freedom, is not free. We should never forget that. The moment we as a collective nation forget about the high cost of freedom, we will have [...]
Lovin’ Moose: A little about Mike Moustakas and more about perspective
Written by Wally Fish | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals)
By now I think we can all agree that it is safe to be excited about Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, and Mike Montgomery. I’m talking about both the present and future of all three, and in the case of Montgomery the past as well. Before I espouse happy thoughts, sunshine, roses and lollipops I wanted to take a step back and stress that it is going to take more than these three prospects reaching their potential for the Royals to make a move in the hierarchy of baseball powers. I know that is kind of a duh, but stay with me here [...]
Another Celtics-Lakers NBA finals
Written by dannysavitzky | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Basketball
There’s not much that’s more heart-wrenching than a post-game embrace shared by Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry and a teary-eyed Steve Nash. It was an inspired effort from the 36-year-old point guard for a team that wasn’t supposed to go anywhere but almost managed to uproot last year’s champions.
You have to give the Lakers some credit, though. They beat the Suns in six games after finally managing to figure out the Suns’ somehow-befuddling zone, and Phil Jackson even managed to get Sasha Vujacic some minutes in the process.
Little did one of the best coaches of all-time know that his Slovenian [...]
Hot or Not: Charlotte
Written by Ben Montedonico | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | NASCAR
Another Memorial Day, another Coca-Cola 600 in the books(those 600 miles never seem to last long enough). So who survived NASCAR’s longest race, and who fell short? We’ve got you covered!
Hot: The Busch Brothers. The good news: Kurt and Kyle combined to win 7 NASCAR events in the month of May. The bad news: Tomorrow marks the first day of June.
Not: Jimmie Johnson. Who needs AJ Allmendinger? Four-Time found the wall twice all on his own. I guess Lowe’s really doesn’t own the track anymore.
Hot: Jamie McMurray. Earnhardt-Ganassi’s new flagship driver has three runner-up finishes in the last 5 races. [...]

Is This Defense Ready?
Written by Brian Miller | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Phin Phanatic (Dolphins)
There is a lot of hype surrounding the Miami Dolphins and they haven’t so much as put on a pad yet. Some in the media believe that Miami will and should win the division and make the playoffs. I suppose the question is this. Is this defense ready?
Brandon Marshallshould improve an offense that is steadily getting better and his presence should give Chad Henne a legit threat. With Ronnie Brown coming back from injury and a still rejuvenated Ricky Williams, the Dolphins offense isn’t much of a concern. But the other side is.
Forget for a moment that the free safety spot [...]
