Mini-Camp Over…OTA To Start

Written by Brian Miller | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Phin Phanatic (Dolphins)

The weekend mini-camp is over and on Tuesday after a Memorial Day off for the players, another OTA will take place.  So entertaining.  Without question this is the worst part of the off-season.
For the most part, mini-camps and OTA’s work like this.  You put this guy over here and that guy over there and then you change them about 3 times.  You take this guy that started last year and you put him with the 2nd team in the hopes that he will step up and play better in TC.
There are names you won’t hear about come September and many [...]

Zach Johnson Wins Crown Plaza Invitational

Written by Blake Lovell | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Pro Golf Now (Golf)

Well, after Phil Mickelson missed the cut at the Crown Plaza Invitational, golf fans wondered if there would be enough excitement to make the tournament worthwhile on the weekend. That question was answered by Zach Johnson, who put on amazing show on Saturday and Sunday, and picked up the victory at Colonial.
After Johnson shot a 64 on Saturday, we thought “man, this guy has a shot.” But after he shot a 64 on Sunday as well, we thought “this guy just threw his name into the hat for possible U.S. Open winners in a few weeks.” Some believe that [...]

Giants Sweep Diamondbacks In Offensive Outburst

Written by Bryan | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Frisco Fastball (Giants)

Wow – so THIS is what scoring runs feels like eh? I’m going to be honest with you – I kinda like it. It’s been so long since we’ve had this type of stretch, I’m more used to the scoring less than a pimple faced teen on prom night type of game.
After two easy wins in the first two games of the series, the Giants had to work for the victory today. Bochy did his best to screw the Giants over, throwing in a rusty Affeldt (who hadn’t pitched in what, nearly two weeks?) right into the middle of a [...]

NHL to expand

Written by Tim Redinger | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Sabre Noise (Sabres)

Ok, so I lured you in with a catchy title, and no. the NHL has not released information that they are going to expand the league beyond the 30 teams they currently have.
What they are expanding is the NHL Winter Classic, the time of the year when the NHL sends two of its franchise teams out in the elements to play as the game was originally designed – in the snow, cold and wind.
When the concept first came up, I did not like the idea of the NHL adding the elments into a regular season game, especially when two points [...]

Game One: Chicago 1 Philly 0

Written by Tim Redinger | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Sabre Noise (Sabres)

Philly struck first, and I got my hopes up, and then the teams traded goals until the score reached 5-5.
And then I committed a cardinal sin of hockey nation; I fell asleep as the third period started.  I would love to say that it was the result of too many alcoholic beverages while celebrating the Stanley Cup finals – but it was the result of the lack of sleep from having a newborn baby.
When I woke up in the wee hours of the morning to an infomercial; I quickly grabbed my phone to check the scores.  Chicago 6 Philly 5.
In [...]

Huntington Holding Off on Call for Backup

Written by Tom Smith | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Rum Bunter (Pirates)

Prior to the Pittsburgh Pirates being swept by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, Pirates GM Neal Huntington held his weekly show with Greg Brown.  Huntington mentioned that Brad Lincoln was “a ways away” from being called to the major league team.
He also mentioned Jose Tabata and Pedro Alvarez (with 44 RBI) are not “imminent” on receiving a promotion call from the Pirates.   Later on in the day, Tabata went 0-for-5.
Huntington has a track record of holding back prospects.  Look at Andrew McCutchen last season.  The decision to have McCutchen do some extended work in AAA turned out favorably for the Pirates.
He was asked [...]

Braves Complete Sweep of Pirates, Take Finale 5-2

Written by Kris Willis | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Tomahawk Talk (Braves)

(Source: Yardbarker.com)
It is official, Kenshin Kawakami has to be snake bit. Kawakami finished off his third great start in a row but yet again came away with nothing to show for it. Things went awry for Kawakami with Pirates Right Fielder Garrett Jones at the plate leading off the seventh inning. Kawakami appeared to strike Jones out with a split finger but third base umpire Chris Guccione came racing in to say that the ball hit the ground. Bobby Cox came out to argue but to no avail. Video replay did show that the ball hit the ground [...]

Boston Baller: Rajon Rondo Key to Success

Written by Josh Dhani | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Always Miller Time (Pacers)

Written by Evan Sidery
Rajon Rondo is the youngest of the Big 4 of the Boston Celtics, but the best. Rondo has guided the Celtics to a possible 18th championship.
First off, he dominated Mario Chalmers in the Miami Heat series. He guided the Celtics to win in five games over the Heat.
He was a machine in the series against the Cavs, outplaying LeBron James. He even had a triple-double in one win over the Cavs. Due to Rondo’s performance, Celtics won in six games. Then came the Orlando Magic series. Rondo dominated for the third straight series. Jameer [...]

Who Wants Hedo?

Written by Josh Dhani | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Always Miller Time (Pacers)

Written by Evan Sidery
After only one year, Hedo Turkoglu wants out of Toronto. First off, why did Hedo got to Toronto in the first place?
I’ll give you the main reason: Money. All he wanted was money. Hedo could have gone to Portland and played along with Brandon Roy.
Hedo is going to leave Toronto.
Who wants Hedo? I think there are 12 teams that will try to get him.Detroit Pistons

This rumor with Detroit has been around since last year. Right when the Hedo rumors came out he wanted to leave the Raptors, the Pistons were on top of [...]

Spurs Not ‘Shopping’ Parker

Written by mikesatx | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Air Alamo (Spurs)

Bob Finnan from the Ohio News Herald had some pieces that I deemed interesting for you guys.  We all have seen the rumors swirling about Tony Parker and trade talks.  Finnan writes NBA notes for the paper and had this posted in there about San Antonio:
The Spurs will listen to offers for guard Tony Parker over the summer, but they are not “shopping” him. He is entering the final year of his contract worth $13.5 million.
Now can we rest on that?
Surely there will be more rumors and shananigans, what the hell!? Hey give me a break I am tired and been up since 4:00 am so give [...]

My Baseball Philosophy

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Chicken Friars (Padres)

What is my baseball philosophy? I think it’s important to communicate what it is, because everything I write comes out of my baseball philosophy. Moves I like and don’t like, traits that excite me, traits that don’t excite me, etc. all get filtered through the lens of my own unique baseball perspective. To make sense of my writing, it’s probably good to get an idea of where I’m coming from.
So what is it? Well, first, I should address what my philosophy is not.
My philosophy, like any good philosophy, is not merely contemplation…it has real applications and is grounded in logic [...]
