How Serious Are Jaff Decker’s Struggles?

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Chicken Friars (Padres)

Padres top prospect Jaff Decker has had a rough go of it this year. He dealt with an injury throughout most of spring training, and didn’t debut until mid-May.
The stocky 20-year-old outfielder seemed primed for success, as a tremendous hitter in a hitter’s league, but he’s off to a horrid .151/.224/.283 start in 14 games. Decker hit .299/.442/.514 in a pitcher’s league last year.
Now, it’s easy enough to just give Decker a mulligan and play the “he’s returning from an injury, so of course he’ll struggle” card. It is worth noting he registered back-to-back multi-hit games on Thursday and Friday [...]

Everth Cabrera Heads Back to the DL

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Chicken Friars (Padres)

Everth Cabrera didn’t last long after coming off the DL earlier this month, and he’s back on the disabled list with a recurring hamstring problem.
Cabrera played in eight games after his return. He had hits in six of those games, but didn’t walk, and had just one multi-hit outing.
For the year, the second-year shortstop is hitting a weak .212/.257/.283.
Lance Zawadzki, who was 2-for-11 earlier this year with San Diego filling in for Cabrera, has been recalled from Triple-A Portland again.
Jerry Hairston, batting a Cabrera-esque .236/.278/.318, will likely get a lot of the shortstop time while Cabrera recovers, as he did [...]

New Orleans Saints: Week In Review Link Dump 5.30.10

Written by Keith Null | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Who Dat Dish (Saints)

The Saints finally got to work at defending their Super Bowl championship this week hitting the field for their first series of OTA’s.
Most players were in attendance even with OTA’s not being mandatory with exception to left tackle Jammal Brown and running back Pierre Thomas who are both holding out for new deals.
Brown’s future is clouded after multiple trade rumors surfaced during the draft and then the team selected USC LT Charles Brown in the second round, an ominous sign.
Jammal is certainly seeking a blockbuster deal to become the highest paid tackle in the NFL after developing into arguably the best tackle in the [...]

Some Brief News Regarding Jesus Awesomepitcher

Written by Jeremy Stewart | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | District on Deck (Nats)

I intentionally have stayed away from speculating about when Stephen Strasburgs 1st start will be, mainly because noone knows for sure.  Nats GM Mike Rizzo came out today and announced that his next start will be June 3rd….in AAA. This would set up a June 8th or 9th start in DC. Unless its decided that J.D. Martin gives the team a better chance to win.

No D as ‘Hawks Take Game 1

Written by Eugene Markman | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Broad Street Buzz (Flyers)

Blackhawks to the left. Blackhawks to the right. The Chicago Blackhawks were wide open all night.

I’m not going to bother recapping all of the goals and plays from last night.  The Flyers lost 6-5, and played HORRIBLE defense throughout the entire game.  The offense seemed fine, but that’s because Chicago looked pretty damn bad to.  This is a game to forget, to bury the tape, and to not think about anymore.  There’s not too much to learn.
It’s not like Chicago found flaws in the Flyers system and exploited it. The Flyers simply did not play at all.  They didn’t clog [...]

Sizemore Out, Huff OK, and MLB Draft Notes

Written by Ed Carroll | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Wahoo's on First (Indians)

Some short takes on the day’s news:
Grady Sizemore will be out at least 6-8 weeks and possibly the rest of the season. It’s a blow to the Indians’ confidence, to be sure, but it’s not like Grady was doing anything at the plate. …

Orlando Magic News & Notes: What’s Next?

Written by Andrew Melnick | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Howard the Dunk (Magic)

Dwight Howard was not happy about the way the Magic went out in Game 6.
C Dwight Howard was less than pleased that teammates played one-on-one basketball, diverting from the game-plan Friday night in the third quarter after the Celtics made a run.
“They made a run and we stopped playing our game,” Howard said. “Everybody wanted to do it on their own. That’s not what got us back to Game 6. You know, just everybody wanted to do it by themselves.
“In a situation like this, you’ve got to keep fighting. They made their runs, and everybody started to hang their heads.”
Brian [...]

Logan Forsythe Returns

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Chicken Friars (Padres)

San Antonio second baseman Logan Forsythe has returned from an injury that kept him out from April 23-May 28.
Forsythe went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk in his first game back.
He’s batting .296/.400/.444 in 15 games on the season.
Forysthe is only in Double-A to work on his defense, which has been shaky. He’s attempting to convert from third base to second, so he’ll probably need some time to get comfortable at the keystone.
Forysthe has made four errors on the year, all in his first eight of those 15 games played, so perhaps he’s settling in somewhat. A plus defender [...]

Problems That Still Need to be Fixed

Written by Griffin Cooper | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | SoDo Mojo (Mariners)

There’s no doubt that things have been done to improve this team over the last week or so. Milton Bradley is back, Sean White is gone, Shawn Kelley is being used slightly more properly, and Griffey isn’t starting. These are all positives, and together, they can go a long way towards getting this team back on track, as you’ve witnessed over this last little hot streak. However, this organization isn’t done yet – as constructed now, the Mariners probably still aren’t good enough to contend – there are several problems yet to be fixed.

Jesus Colome needs to go. He’s really [...]

Smackdown! – 5/28/10

Written by Daniel Correia | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Daily DDT (Wrestling)

Since it was announced on Monday about Fatal 4 Way, Friday Night Smackdown had to get in the game with their own title match qualifiers.  The World Champion needs three competitors for the PPV, and we’d find out who they were on Smackdown.  Here’s what happened:
Teddy Long comes to the ring.  He talks a little bit about Fatal 4 Way and how Jack Swagger will defend his title.  He announces that Big Show automatically qualifies because he beat Swagger last weekend via DQ.  Teddy makes two qualifying matches for tonight, CM Punk/Kane, and Rey Mysterio/The Undertaker.

Interrupted by Drew McIntyre.  He [...]

Mike Russow’s knockout of Todd Duffee (GIF)

Written by Josh Sanchez | May 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Cage Pages (MMA)

Heavyweight Mike Russow was awarded “Knockout of the Night” at “UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans” after delivering an astonishing come-from-behind knockout to highly hyped Todd Duffee after being dominated for the first two rounds.
Russow showed his granite chin after he ate shot after shot from Duffee, but in a moment of desperation in the final frame, Russow connected a brilliant right-hand that dropped Duffee immediately to the mat.
The knockout was one of the most unbelievable turn of events in UFC history. For those of you that missed it, here is Mike Russow derailing the Todd Duffee hype train.
