Corner back Danny Gorrer was re-claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Rams today and will join the Saints just in time for their upcoming training camp July 29th.
Gorrer was signed last season as undrafted rookier free agent out of Texas A&M by the Saints. He spent the entire off-season with the team faring well but was signed to the practice squad before the start of the 2009-2010 season
He was then signed by the Rams off the Saints practice squad in November of last year.
Gorrer made his first NFL start the following month when the Rams played the Arizona Cardinals nearly [...]

UFA Grand Prize: Ilya Kovalchuk

Apple sold 1.7 million iPhones in the first 4 days. Super Bowl commercials increase in cost every single year. NHL attendance is on the upswing. Bad economy. What bad economy? Seems like everyone is spending money. What better way for a sports franchise to spend money than to acquire new talent. And as July 1st [...]
Reliever Mike Gonzalez’s Current Rehab Status
Written by Lawrence Barreca | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Birds Watcher (Orioles)
One question still looms in the minds of Orioles fans around the country: Will reliever Mike Gonzalez actually contribute (positively) to the team in 2010?
Ever since Opening Day, the Birds have been plagued with the absence of a true dominant closer, as Gonzalez failed to convert two saves in his first three appearances. He would later hit the DL, and what followed afterward has left the bullpen a mess.
Out of nowhere, pitchers were randomly being thrown into the ninth inning role. We saw the likes of David Hernandez, Will Ohman, Jim Johnson, and Alfredo Simon all take the ball in [...]
The Sanchez-Morrison Dilemma
Written by Michael Jong | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Marlin Maniac (Marlins)
Recently, FanGraphs writer and friend of the Maniac Joe Pawlikowski wrote an interesting article on the “problem” the Marlins have regarding first base. Right now, Gaby Sanchez is the man, and he’s looking like it. Going into the season, we would have taken a .340-ish wOBA performance from Sanchez, but after a slide took his slash line to .266/.344/.411 on June 5, he has ripped through opposing pitchers to the tune of .400/.449/.625, with four homers, four doubles, eight walks, and only nine strikeouts. This has brought him to a .305/.375/.474 line for the year, good for a .376 wOBA [...]

In a new article featured in the NY Post by Marc Berman, Berman reports Fox Business Network interviewed a real estate agent who acknowledged Lebron looked at a $13 million condo this past weekend in Greenwich Village.
Don’t look too much into this, but this is definitely a good sign going forward.
Prepare To Represent The NFC [B]East

Over the next few weeks, all of the NFL sites across the Fansided Network will be coming together and putting together an all-star squad for each division. This means we will have to put our hatred for the division rivals aside and come together to represent the best division in the NFL.
We will be working with the Redskins, the Giants, and Eagles blogs to put together our NFC East team. If our lead bloggers cannot come to an agreement, a vote will be held to determine the player who earns the debated roster spot. Tie-breaker votes will be held over [...]

The “Stand for Stan” campaign put together by 101 ESPN and the St. Louis Cardinals reached a high point yesterday with a full day dedicated to Stan the Man. The fans left their thoughts on Musial on video. Cardinals President Bill DeWitt and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay also gave their best to the campaign for Musial to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Check out what everyone had to say during yesterday’s event and stay tuned to see if Musial’s efforts as a model citizen, ballplayer, and war veteran are rewarded in the future.

Cam Fowler’s Wild Ride

In case anyone in the NHL hasn’t noticed, according to SI.com, Scott Niedermayer is still an unrestricted free agent, so Florida, ya might wanna jump on that one!
Now, before I start gushing about Cam Fowler, I have to set the record straight about the booing. Every source I have been to has reported that most of the 11,000+ people at Staples Center were booing Cam. If you were in attendance last Friday afternoon, you know that’s not true. The booing began as soon as the word “Anaheim” began emerging from the announcer’s mouth.
It didn’t come over very well on VERSUS. [...]
Cards have brooms ready, trying for first three-game sweep
Written by Ryne Gery | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)
St. Louis goes for the sweep today at home against Arizona. The Cards have yet to complete a three-game sweep this season despite plenty of chances. Another chance comes against a scuffling Arizona team set to throw rookie pitcher Barry Enright who will be making his major league debut. Enright will undoubtedly be nervous, so this is a golden opportunity for the Cards to get the elusive sweep of the three-game series. The Snakes are an inexperienced team that finds ways to lose games and with a first-timer on the mound, the prospects for a win are slim.
While failing to [...]

McPhee: It’s Varlamov and Neuvirth time
Written by PennSkinsFan | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (Capitals)
DISCUSS IN SEA OF RED FORUM
GM George McPhee disclosed to the Washington Post what most of us already knew, the Washington capitals are prepared to go young in goal for the 2010/11 season. They have no plans to resign Jose Theodore or pursue a veteran goalie, but instead, throw the hopes to young Russian Semyon Varlamov and two time Calder Cup champ Michal Nuevirth.
After sidestepping the issue for months, McPhee confirmed that Semyon Varlamov and Michal Neuvirth will be the Caps’ No. 1 and No. 1a goaltenders next season.
“We’re going with our young goaltenders,” he said. “They’re both 22 years old [...]
With Colon Out for the Season, Steelers Turn to Flozell
Written by jdramirez | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | NFL, Nice Pick, Cowher (Steelers), The Landry Hat (Cowboys)
Willie Colon suffered a season ending Achilles tendon tear and will be out for the entire 2010 season. Flozell Adams, a 12 year veteran at left tackle may switch to the right side to replace Colon. The Steelers have invited Adams for a visit. The Steelers have options, however, and can either start the backups, sign free agent Levi Jones, or move guard Trai Essex to the vacancy.
As the matter relates to Adams, he has been a highly effective tackle with the Cowboys. He was known for his size, power, strength, and penalties. [...]
Jason Heyward Won’t Play in All Star Game
Written by Kris Willis | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Tomahawk Talk (Braves)
It appears that this Disabled List stint will cost Jason Heyward a chance to play in this year’s All Star Game. Heyward told the AJC that he wouldn’t participate if chosen due to the injury to his thumb. Heyward won’t be eligible to be activated from the Disabled List until July 12th which is the first day of the All Star Break.
“I actually don’t plan on playing in the All-Star game if I’m selected because if I can’t play for this team right here right now, then I don’t want to go play in that game and jeopardize the second [...]
2011 NFL Draft Prospect: Mike Mohamed, Cal
Written by jcmadson | June 30, 2010 | Comments Off | NFL Mocks, Other Blogs
Mike Mohamed- ILB- Cal
6-3 238lbs Senior
Stats:
2007- 46 tackles, 1 tackle for loss
2008- 87 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 3 interceptions
2009- 111 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 3 interceptions
Pros:
Mike Mohamed has a very intense attitude on the field. He is always looking to hit someone. His on-field leadership qualities are a plus. A career total of 6 interceptions is a decent total for a linebacker. Utilizes his high motor to put himself in the position to make plays and that is backed up by his 111 tackles last season.
Cons
Mike Mohamed isn’t fluid when he drops into pass [...]
