As the new Denver Nuggets’ new executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri gears up for one last effort to keep franchise player Carmelo Anthony in Denver, the rumor mill has been, well, at least entertaining.
Take it for what it is worth, Jon Rothstein, who covers college hoops, is reporting that the New Jersey Nets are the favorites to land Anthony. While New Jersey doesn’t want to include their young star Brook Lopez, they would be willing to package Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and multiple picks to land Anthony. He also reports that the Nuggets would trade Chauncey Billups [...]

A Look At New Knick Center Timofey Mozgov
Written by Alex David, aka Short White Boy | August 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Buckets Over Broadway (Knicks)
While the focus for most American fans during the World FIBA Championship is on Team USA, Knick fans might want to check in on Russia too since they feature our new backup center: Timofey Mozgov. He doesn’t start for them, but the 24-year-old has either led or tied for second in scoring on two of their three games. Yeah, he was non-existant in the third, but still those other two games show serious promise. And in those two games, he only played 21 and 20 minutes, meaning he outscored most of his teammates even though in each one four or [...]

Seattle and Detroit Make a Deal… Again
Written by Shaun Dolence | August 31, 2010 | Comments Off | 12th Man Rising (Seahawks)
The Seahawks have reportedly acquired offensive tackle Tyler Polumbus from the Detroit Lions. No word on compensation yet.
Following injuries to Russell Okung and Ray Willis, Seattle has obviously been desperate for tackle depth. Mansfield Wrotto has been starting at left tackle after making the switch from guard, and Chester Pitts is still a few weeks away from playing.
The deal makes sense for Seattle, assuming compensation is minimal. And it isn’t a complete shock that the Detroit Lions are, once again, Seattle’s trading partner.
More will be posted regarding this trade as it develops.

Who Will Wear The Big “C” This Season?
Written by Susan s-k Lee | August 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Ducks Daily Blog (Ducks), NHL
With Teemu resigned to a $3.25M+bonuses for the 2010-2011 season, it’s pretty much a lock that he’ll be Cap’n Flash, but some fans are making alternative rumblings – some fairly logical (Getzlaf), some interesting (Saku Koivu) and some downright bizarre (Lubomir Vishnovsky).
Therefore, in the interest of argument, I hereby present you with my reasons why the only choice we have is that of Selanne.
Ryan Getzlaf: He’s got the chops, the experience and the presence, but is viewed as too much of a hothead. Remember the disaster that was known as Captain Pronger? We don’t need a repeat performance.
Saku Koivu: He’s [...]
D-Day: Roster Cut To 75

Moss, Sorgi, Tracy to IR; Boateng Released
The Giants reduced their roster to 75 players this morning, releasing only one player – WR Nyan Boateng – and placing QB Jim Sorgi, WR Sinorice Moss and LB Adrian Tracy on season-ending IR (is there any other kind?).
The final move was transferring OL Kevin Boothe from active PUP to PUP reserve, which means he won’t be eligible to suit up until Week Seven – Oct 25 at Dallas – at the earliest.
Sorgi’s move to IR was no shock. The free-agent QB was in [...]

Buccaneers make some roster cuts
Written by Matt Staton | August 31, 2010 | Comments Off | The Pewter Plank (Bucs)
The Buccaneers and Coach Morris have announced they have made some roster cuts this afternoon.
The Buccaneers have released running back Derrick Ward. Ward had been battling for the number two running back position, but had been struggling in the preseason. He seemed sluggish and even Coach Morris thought he need to slim down. Kareem Huggins appears to be the number two now behind Cadillac.
Wide receiver Terrence Nunn has also been cut. This is not a major surprise here. The Bucs have a logjam at receiver and too many players at this position. Nunn has not been a factor this preseason.
The [...]

No big surprises so far on Cutdown Day 1.o.
WR Malcolm Kelly has been placed on the injured reserve list. He will be unavailable all season. Kelly has been unable to practice and has not played in a pre-season game due to a hamstring injury. Kelly returned to practice on Monday only to re-aggravate the injury. Since he did practice for a day back in July, he was ineligible for the Physically Unable to Perform list. By placing Kelly on the IR, the Redskins retain his rights and give him another chance to come back healthy [...]
Eagles Hope Linebackers Lead the Way on Defense
Written by Ryan Messick | August 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Inside the Iggles (Eagles)
Make no mistake, the Eagles linebackers this year are far better than last season. The trio is probably as good as Philadelphia has had since Jeremiah Trotter was in his prime. Perhaps most importantly, all three – Stewart Bradley, Ernie Sims and Akeem Jordan – can play every snap.
“Big. It really is big. And this gets back to us being healthy, for the most part, right now,” said defensive coordinator Sean McDermott. “We got banged up in a game the other night. But, for the most part, we’re healthy.”
That means McDermott can capitalize on the versatility of a unit that [...]
