Although the Tennessee Titan defense lost its top overall defensive rating, make no mistake, this young defensive unit is still one of the best in the league. Just ask Eli Manning. Here’s a quick review of the Titan’s Week 3 performance on defense, including unit grades and selections of the “Titan” and “Terrible” player of the week.

Week 4 Preview and How the Browns Will Win

This week’s opponent – Cincinnati Bengals
Alright, last week’s game was closer than most people expected, but really being close only counts for a few things in life – horseshoes and hand grenades come to mind. There were some positives and definitely some negatives, but we aren’t going to hash those out here, so onto the new week.
Making the trip up I-71 is the inter-state rival the Cincinnati Bengals, who are coming off back-to-back victories over Carolina and Baltimore respectively. The Bengals made some big off-season moves on the offensive side of the ball adding WR Terrell Owens and drafting TE [...]
Carpenter throws complete game in Cards 6-1 win over Rockies
Written by Ryne Gery | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)
The Cardinals season may be over, but they’re still playing for pride. This team has taken heat for appearing disinterested and lacking a pulse when times got tough.
But to the Cards credit, they haven’t thrown in the towel even after watching the Reds celebrate the division title Tuesday night. The Cardinals may have been the preseason favorite but the Reds were simply the better team.
Chris Carpenter had his battles with the Reds all season. The right-hander sparked the brawl in Cincinnati during the Cards series sweep in August. The teams went in opposite directions after that and the Reds cruised [...]

Written by Zac Snyder | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)
We are just four weeks in to the NFL season but broadcasters Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick will already be getting their second look at the Detroit Lions. Brennaman and Billick also called the Lions season opening game in Chicago.
A good portion of the country will be able to tune in to see the Lions take on the Green Bay Packers with the coverage map extending from western Ohio through the Rocky Mountain region and into parts of Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona
Whether you’re watching or not we would love to have you join us for a live blog during the [...]
Decisions, decisions

Now that the Yanks are in a tie with the Rays for the top spot in the division (although TB still owns the tie breaker), who would you rather they face in the ALDS:
For those of you scoring at home, I want the Yanks to take the division. I don’t care who they play, I think they can beat anybody.
LET’S GO YANKS!!!!
Dolphins Remain Class of the AFC East
Written by Bert Smith | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | NFL, Phin Phanatic (Dolphins)
The Miami Dolphins recently did another good thing and helped someone (a fellow writer) who was involved in a serious automobile accident and remains hospitalized at present. On reflection, this seems like, “just another good deed” done by an NFL team and seems like it’s probably part of an overall campaign by the NFL. But not so: this was done solely because those executives responsible and the team members themselves cared enough to acknowledge the person and make them feel special. It required no order, no special program and no prompting. And that is what makes [...]
A’s Need To Finish With Winning Record
Written by Joseph Lopez | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)
At 77-81, the A’s must sweep the Seattle Mariners in order to finish the season at .500. With four games left, the team needs to make the most of the remainder of the year and head into next season on a high-note. The A’s are currently on a six-game losing streak, and that to me, is unacceptable. This is a team that has a quality pitching staff, and while the offense is nothing special, the team should not have many problems in Seattle.
Prior to the start of this season, I put together a pre-season MLB Power Rankings list, and while [...]
Know Thy Enemy: Baltimore Ravens
Written by Chris | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Nice Pick, Cowher (Steelers), The Ebony Bird (Ravens)
The Baltimore Ravens rebounded from the hellacious beating the Pittsburgh Steelers handed them in the AFC championship game two years ago to earn another playoff berth last year. They pounded the Patriots in Foxboro in the Wild Card game before doing their annual choke job against the Colts in the divisional round.
This season, the Ravens were handed the season opener against the Jets thanks to about a billion penalties against New York’s Antonio Cromartie. They quickly forgot about the refs’ help after losing a defensive struggle in week two, which sent Ray Lewis and Ratbird fans into one of [...]
A’s Review: Coco Crisp
Written by Joseph Lopez | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)
When A’s GM/VP Billy Beane signed Ben Sheets and Coco Crisp this past off-season, I was particularly excited about what role Crisp would play in the A’s offense. While the Sheets deal was a big $10 million flop, the Crisp deal wasn’t that bad. For just about $5 million, the A’s got 75 games of work out of the oft-injured Crisp. Crisp, 30, did however, put on quite a show when he was healthy enough to make it to the field.
In 290 at-bats, the veteran outfielder hit .279/.342/.438 with 8 home runs and 38 RBIs. When you compare those numbers [...]
Minor League Awards
Written by Evan | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Climbing Tal's Hill (Astros)
On August 24th, I wrote an article entitled ‘J.D. Martinez Making Quick Work of Minor Leagues‘. I was amazed at how well this 20th round pick was hitting in just his second professional season. After hitting .341 with a .407 OBP and .531 SLG, Martinez was named Houston’s Minor League Player of the Year.
Jordan Lyles, at just 19, was named Houston’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Lyles made it all the way to Triple-A in 2010 and over 158.2 innings between Double and Triple-A posted a 3.57 ERA with 137 strikeouts. The young righty was Houston’s first round pick [...]
Trent Edwards – Yet another bad decision
Written by tkopa | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Black and Teal (Jaguars)
Is it just me or does anyone else feel Gene Smith is flailing away these days and driving Jacksonville into the bottom of the NFL?
Trent Edwards was not liked by either the fans or the players in Buffalo. He plays a very conservative game with questionable judgement. It has been said the won’t throw the ball more than 10 yards. His last play as a Buffalo Bill was 4th and 11 and he ran out of bounds after 6 yards. The people in Buffalo turned off the television rather than watch him play. If you are frustrated with David Garrard [...]
A Wee Bit of Willie
Written by nate | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Stripe Hype (Bengals)
In a move that was long overdue, Willie Anderson showed up at a Cincinnati practice Wednesday and Thursday to help out his old mates. Anderson spent some time with Dennis Roland, Andre Smith and Anthony Collins, who could all benefit from his wisdom and experience. Big Willie passed along some encouraging news from Smith, who at least seemed somewhat interested in Anderson’s knowledge.
The only sad part about the whole visit is that Anderson had to contact the Bengals to make it happen. Considering that Smith is a fellow Alabama boy, it would have been nice if Anderson were around to [...]
Fantasy Wednesday Must Have Made a Wrong Turn at Albuquerque
Written by Matt Snyder | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)
It’s Thursday, but it’s still fantasy Wednesday. Try to figure that one out.
Possible Starters
These are the guys on your fantasy roster that you either should start or consider starting.
RB – Jahvid Best – Best had a poor fantasy week last week, but he was limited to only seven carries because of a turf toe injury. The Packers are pretty middle of the road on run defense, and he’s saying that he looks good to play, but I’d be hesitant to start him if you have another solid option. Besides, it’s Detroit at Green Bay. What good can happen? Week [...]

Will the Pacers Extend Rush?
Written by Josh Dhani | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Always Miller Time (Pacers), NBA
The deadline to extend Brandon Rush’s contract will be on the 31st of October. It could be a spooky Halloween night for Rush, as it is possible that he may not receive an extension at all.
But he is working hard and will try to make up for the five-game suspension he was received from the NBA after having a scuffle with drugs.
“I do think it could play a part a little bit, but I’m trying not to worry about it,” Rush told the Indianapolis Star. “I should be fine as long as I come out here and show I’ve [...]
