Fukudome’s Season Is Over, Cubs’ Career As Well?

Written by Jordan Campbell | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Cubbies Crib (Cubs), MLB

Chicago Cubs right fielder Kosuke Fukudome probably has played his last game this season for the Chicago Cubs. As Fukudome sprained his left knee in last night’s game and is day-to-day. With Mike Quade promising to play young players in the team’s final series in Houston, Fukudome probably will not return this season. Now the bigger question is, Has Fukudome played his last game as Cub.
There is no doubt in my mind that one of the players General Manager Jim Hendry will aggresively try and trade this year is Kosuke Fukudome. With the emergence of Tyler Colvin, and the imminent [...]

Off Target: Nonito Donaire, The Wayward Superstar

Written by Carlos Acevedo | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | The Cruelest Sport (Boxing)

Nonito Donaire, “The Filipino Flash,” has seen his star dulled recently by his own promoter, Top Rank, who have practically eclipsed one of the most talented fighters in the game. One of their worst habits is the old switcheroo, announcing matchu…

Cowen vs. Hale: Epic Saga of the Doomed

Written by Bobby Zijiac | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | SenShot (Senators)

If there’s one thing we saw in last night’s 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, it’s that we know have a battle for the 6th defenseman spot on our hands. Don’t get me wrong, both of these guys are still staying with the big club as either the 6th or 7th option. However, both want to start on October 8th, and it is still to be seen who has the upper hand.
For me, Hale looked good on Tuesday in Dundas. He fought Cody McCormick, and played a smooth and solid game. His assist on the only goal of the [...]

Kobe Bryant to Play Limited Minutes in Europe

Written by Chris Shellcroft | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Lake Show Life (Lakers)

Mark Medina reports that Phil Jackson will not play Kobe Bryant more than 12 to 16 minutes per game during the Lakers’ two-game swing through Europe. The team takes flight today for London and Jackson took a moment to speak with reporters before heading off to catch the charter.
“We want him to be out there on the court and play. Whether it’s a six-to-eight minute run, or two of them, that’s what I’d prefer.”
Fully aware of how popular KB24 is in Europe, Jackson had previously jokingly referred to Bryant’s limited minutes as ‘Beckham payback time’.
Very much the opposite of Phil’s [...]

Tommy Manzella Exiled to Dominican

Written by Evan | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Climbing Tal's Hill (Astros)

Tommy Manzella has played exactly 81 games this season which is perfect for lazy guys like me because I can simply double his stats to find his yearly numbers if he were to play a full season. Here it goes…
34 runs, 2 HRs, 38 RBI, 0 SB, .217/.258/.257/.515
110 hits in 506 at-bats, 14 doubles, 0 triples
These numbers would probably qualify Manzella as the worst offensive everyday shortstop in the history of baseball over the course of the season. Of those 110 hits, 94 would be singles. That’s over 85% of his hits, hence the .257 slugging %.
Manzella has never showed [...]

Ravens vs Steelers: Throw The Records Out The Window

Written by Joe Barnes | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | The Ebony Bird (Ravens)

(Note: This intro oozes so much professionalism that you may find yourself cringing at the pure objectivity of it. If so, continue on reading, it gets a little bit better.)

Well folks, it’s Steelers Week. Since this matchup is in the City of Stench, there’s not as much hype as the second game, where the odor-bearing Pittsmellians invade the lovely city of Baltimore. Regardless, it’s a game that is circled every year on the schedule no matter how good either team is in that particular season.
With the teams splitting the last 14 matchups 7-7, you can rest assured knowing that [...]

If You Hate LeBron, Are You A Racist?

Written by Alex David, aka Short White Boy | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Buckets Over Broadway (Knicks)

Apparently last night on an interview on CNN, both LeBron James and his manager, Maverick Carter, said some of the reason that people are so furious at LeBron is due to racism, as detailed in this report:
In the interview, CNN correspondent Soledad O’Brien asked about “The Decision,” the one-hour special on ESPN in which James announced that he would play for the Heat, and some of the negative headlines it generated.
“It’s just about control and not doing it the way it’s always been done or not looking the way that it always looks,” Carter said.
O’Brien asked [...]

Cardinals Mike Shannon named Media Person of the Year

Written by Ryne Gery | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)

Mike Shannon has been a part of the St. Louis Cardinals organization for 53 years. He played in the big leagues for St. Louis from 1962 to 1970, manning third base and the outfield as a role player for some good clubs. Shannon couldn’t stay away from the Cardinals, though. He returned to the St. Louis as a member of the promotional staff in 1971 and then made the switch to the broadcast booth in 1972. Since then, he has become an iconic figure in the city as the voice of the Cardinals, narrating the summers of young boys for [...]

Who Will Win the 2010 Ryder Cup?

Written by Blake Lovell | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Pro Golf Now (Golf)

Golf fans, we are only one day away from the start of the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in Wales, and there’s a lot of hype surrounding the event because of everything that has led up to this point. There’s the Rory McIlroy discussion of Tiger Woods. There’s the belief that the Europeans are the heavy favorites heading into this event, despite two U.S. players in particular being red hot as of late (Matt Kuchar and Jim Furyk). So the real question is, who will win this event? I have no idea, but I’m gonna try to make an [...]

Packer Linebacker A.J. Hawk Ripe For Move To The New Orleans Saints?

Written by Keith Null | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | NFL, Who Dat Dish (Saints)

It may seem far fetched but given the Saints recent defensive struggles and relatively ineffective combination of linebackers at the strong side position should the team look towards a trade for an ace linebacker such as disgruntled Packer A.J. Hawk?
Hawk has not officially requested a trade from the Packers but is unhappy with his current situation in Green Bay.
When the Packers move into their nickel and dime formations to defend against the pass Hawk is benched in preference of linebacker Brandon Chiller who they consider to be better in pass protection.
That move of course does not sit well with Hawk given how pass happy a [...]

The Chargers game will be blacked out again this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. You will only be able to listen to the game on the radio or watch pieces of the game from NFL Red Zone. You won’t be able to go to the bar to watch the game and NFL Sunday Ticket will be blacked out. You can either buy tickets to the game or all the internet savvy people will find a site that plays an airing of the game live. Hopefully the Padres will be playing  a meaningful game that day, and we can watch that [...]
