Jay Bouwmeester: Coughing It Up

Written by Frank Rekas | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | The Rat Trick (Panthers)

This post has now been updated with the Peca comments on video below.
There’s an old expression that says, “you can run, but you can’t hide”.  There’s another old expression that says, “be careful for what you wish for”.  We’ve all said them at one time or another in our lives about situations that we, and others have been in.  It’s true though that these words can be said in passing and shrugged off, or they can be taken very seriously and applied to specific situations, and have direct meaning.  Direct enough to cause a media frenzy?  Yes.
For former Florida Panther [...]

Injury Updates 9/30/2010

Written by Matt Staton | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Green, Gold, & Bold (South Florida)

As the Bulls prepare for FAU, a few players are dealing with some injuries.
Wide receiver Dontavia Bogan (ankle) who missed last week after injuring his ankle at UF, has been back at practice and should be ready to go on Saturday, but may be limited in how many snaps he takes part in. The good news is that a starting wide receiver is back for this game.
Wide receiver Sterling Griffin (ankle) has been back at practice after dislocating his ankle in the off-season. Holtz is optimistic he play on Saturday, but trainers are still circling [...]

Blues In G

Written by Tim Currell | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Blackhawk Up (Blackhawks)

The St. Louis Blues made the first, and one of the biggest off-season moves by snitching playoff hero goalie Jaroslav Halak from the Montreal Canadiens. Montreal management was pilloried in the local media, as fans in St. Louis wondered if their team had just acquired a gift from the hockey gods or just another flash in the pan.
But Blues GM Doug Armstrong was not anywhere close to being finished. Before the summer was out, he had acquired Vladimir Sobotka from Boston and prospect Stefan Della Rovere from Washington, drafted Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko, and re-signed a solid core of [...]

I’m sick of Miami already…

Written by sfwyee | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Blue Man Hoop (Warriors)

Part of me really wants to know the outcome of this season. Who is the champion? Who was a flop? What trades were made? What moves failed or succeeded? I can’t wait till the season starts, but I’m so excited for it to start that I really wish I knew what was what. But at the end of the day, the reason why I am more eager to find out, is because I’m sick of hearing about LeBron James and how he is adjusting so well with the Heat, and how he is assertive, blah blah blah. Yes, the story [...]

A’s in 2011: To Spend, Or Not To Spend?

Written by Joseph Lopez | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)

With the regular season coming to a close for the Oakland A’s, it seems like an ideal time to look ahead at the 2011 campaign and what this off-season holds in store for the A’s. This season, while filled with its opportunities, was not Oakland’s year. The Texas Rangers, a team with a great offense and a surprisingly effective rotation, played exceptional baseball in the second-half of the season. The A’s, while they displayed incredible growth and maturation, did not get much production out of their offense this season.
The A’s, who spent money on players like Coco Crisp and Ben [...]

Jets sign Trevor Pryce from Ravens

Written by Marc A. Greenberg | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | The J-E-T Press (Jets)

The New York Jets have interrupted the Ravens’ plans to re-sign defensive end Trevor Pryce, who was waived by Baltimore on Wednesday. The 35 year old from Brooklyn, NY, has 90 career sacks.
The New York Jets have swooped in and agreed to a contract with Ravens DE Trevor Pryce. The Jets’ Rex Ryan coached Pryce when he was an assistant in Baltimore.
Baltimore is on the hook to pay him his $2 million in guaranteed salary, plus whatever the Jets have paid him on his new one-year deal.
While Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that there was a “high possibility” [...]

Not Exactly Silenced

Written by Robert Beames | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)

One game makes a great QB? (Source: Yardbarker)

The last few days have been full of euphoric celebrations after another win with accolades generously being doled out for the new Kansas City Chiefs. As fans, we should enjoy it. Multiple polls have identified the Chiefs as the most surprising undefeated team. While there were many aspects of the latest win which pleasantly stunned this fan, the ordinary play of Matt Cassel was not one of them.
The better production of Cassel last Sunday was encouraging but contrary to what many articles have suggested, this Cassel-critic was not completely silenced. In my mind, he [...]

GBMWolverine’s Pistol Report
This is Not Straight out of the Barrel of a Gun!
The pistol offense, pioneered by Chris Ault of Nevada, has certainly made some noise in the college and high school ranks since being trotted out in 2004. As with any new offensive scheme, the overall objective is to gain an advantage. The pistol is a mix of the now common shotgun and a single back offense. Please enjoy GBMWolverine’s pistol analysis.
The Overriding Philosophical Tenets that Underlie the Scheme
It has been stated that Chris Ault wanted an offense that could compete with [...]

Tiki Comes Off Tacky

Written by Andrew Ilnicki | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | G-MEN H.Q. (Giants)

Via Yahoo Sports Video:
Tiki Barber is sounding off on Tom Coughlin once again, this time he’s telling the mainstream sports media that the coach is letting his control of the team slip away. Barber said:
“I don’t know if he’s completely lost control of the team, but it’s definitely slipping awa. Right now, Tom Coughlin is at a crisis.  His job is certainly in jeopardy.”
The host later in the segment proclaimed – “You might need to come out of retirement, there’s no running game.” Not to discriminate against which former teammates he would throw under the bus, Barber simply [...]

Pat The Bat Strikes – Magic # To 3

Written by Bryan | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Frisco Fastball (Giants)

There is always the chance that the Giants could go into this evenings game and collectively shit the bed for the next four games. Anything is possible.
But I’m going to take my chances and say that wont be happening.
The Padres were finally able to beat the Cubs last night in San Diego, but were unable to gain any ground on the Giants who beat the Diamondbacks for the second straight evening, this time curtsy of a single swing from Pat Burrell.
Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy continued his dominance over the G-men, pitching a fantastic game for the most part. For the [...]

Written by Troy Pieper | September 30, 2010 | Comments Off | Badger of Honor (Wisconsin)

The Wisconsin Badgers Defense has been very solid to this point of the season, but the true test will come this Saturday afternoon in East Lansing against the Michigan State Spartans.  The Spartans much like the Badgers have a great 1 – 2 punch coming out of the Backfield.  The Spartans have rushed for more then 200 yards in each of it’s first four games and is led by a two headed attack of Edwin Baker and Le’Veon Bell.  Both Baker and Bell ranked in the top five in the Big Ten in rushing.
Baker a Sophomore comes into play ranked 4th [...]
