In a very much needed win, the Chargers get the W against the Titans and sit third in AFC West Division. The Broncos’ loss against the Niners has them sitting in last place all by their lonesome.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher was fishing for his first win against the Chargers, but no bites on his bait today. Titans have not won a game against the Chargers since 1991 and it looks like they’ll have to try again for the 9th time another year.
Chargers awarded the Titans a safety to put them in the lead 2-0 when Scifers punt kick was blocked [...]

Turnovers, Poor Pass Defense, Send Cards to 38-35 Loss
Written by Scott Allen | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Raising Zona (Cardinals)
What was the one thing the Arizona Cardinals said they needed to improve on in order to start winning games like the one they lost in Seattle last week? That’s right turnovers. As you know by now, that didn’t work out so well. The Cards turned the ball over four times and the Cards secondary was torched for big play after big play en route to a 38-35 loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs on Sunday.
Cards quarterback Max Hall, who started his third game, threw two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns. That was enough to send him to the bench. [...]
Brett Favre and Vikings Take One on the Chin
Written by Boomer | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Bear Goggles (Bears)
Brett Favre kept his consecutive starts streak in tact despite a couple of fractures in his ankle/heel. Late in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots, Favre took one on the chin, literally. Check it out:

The Post Heard ‘Round the World

Ready…Aim…
I’m usually an optimistic orange Kool-Aid kind of guy. But today’s display of public incompetence in Cincinnati’s 22-14 loss pushed me far right, as militant as my brethren at WhoDey Revolution. And I’m ready for a revolt.
Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski should be the first go. Now. Most 13-year-olds playing Madden have enough sense to stick with what works, or at least re-visit it from time-to-time. The Bengals offense had its best drive of the season to open the game, converting four third downs and marching 86 yards for a touchdown. Carson Palmer was efficient and effective in the hurry-up no-huddle [...]
Jazz Pull Out All the Stops, Beat Thunder 120-99
Written by Casey Case | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Thunderous Intentions (Thunder)
Tough loss for the Thunder tonight as the Jazz really pull out all the stops.
Not that the Thunder didn’t have a chance to at least make this a closer game. They shot 40% from the field, and KD only went 8-19. Harden, who has been a factor in the…
R.I.P. Maurice Lucas (1952-2010)
Written by Sean Highkin | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Rip City Project (Blazers)
The Oregonian’s Jason Quick reports via Twitter that Maurice Lucas, former Trail Blazers player and assistant coach, has passed away at the age of 58. Lucas had been battling bladder cancer for several years, undergoing surgery in 2009, which forced him to step down as assistant coach under Nate McMillan, a position he had held since 2005.
Lucas played professionally for 14 years, first in the ABA and then in the NBA. His career included two separate stints as a power forward for the Blazers, highlighted by his integral role on the legendary 1977 team that won the franchise’s only NBA [...]

Pats Knock the Favre Out of the Vikings
Written by jamie | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Musket Fire (New England Patriots), NFL
The New England Patriots finished their red-hot October with a win over the Minnesota Vikings, beating them 28-18. If you told me before today’s game that BenJarvus Green-Ellis would have more rushing yards than Adrian Peterson, I would have laughed in your face. However, that is exactly what happened, with The Law Firm out-gaining Peterson 112 yards to 92 yards. Green-Ellis averaged 6.6 yards per carry and scored two touchdowns, including the game-clincher with just under 2 minutes to go in the game. The hidden story of this game though may be the play of the defense, and I’m not [...]
EMR: October

Ok, so here is my end of month report (EMR) for the Buffalo Sabres, and if things continue in this fashion, the outlook for the 2010-2011 season looks might bleak. We all knew at the start of the professional sports year in Buffalo that the Bills would be fighting the rest of the league off for the first overall pick in the entry draft – but who knew the Sabres might be in that running as well.
Now don’t get me wrong, the Sabres have a longer season and are by far better than the worst team in the league – [...]

We hit a rather low spot just last week, with 2 losses in a row at home, and the horrid 18 shot performance to start it, everyone was hopeful to see a completely different meeting with the Sabres for the second time in 4 games.
We seemed to have had a problem getting the game going, only getting 6 shots on goal for the first period, but luckily the Thrashers were able to move forward with a little pep talk from Brent Sopel during the first intermission to bring them back with a fire that would carry them through the [...]
Sox GM Targeting Colby Rasmus

Chiefs’ DE Shaun Smith Talks About Win
Written by Patrick Allen | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs), BuffaLowdown (Bills)
The Kansas City Chiefs squeaked out a victory against the winless Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday.
A big part of the reason the Chiefs were able to hang on was the play of their defense. KC has been very good against the run all season but they have struggled at times giving up yards through the air.
Chiefs’ DE Shaun Smith explained a little bit about the team’s defensive identity following Sunday’s win.
Like I’ve been saying all year, we’re a defense that bends but doesn’t break,” said Smith. “We’re playing good football right now, (defensive coordinator) Romeo (Crennel) is putting us [...]
The Beat Goes On as Raiders Ravage Seahawks
Written by Chris Shellcroft | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Just Blog Baby (Raiders)
For the first time in two years the Oakland Raiders have won consecutive games and they’ve done so in style. An offense that looked dead in the water just three weeks ago has exploded, outscoring the last two opponents by a combined score of 92-17.
Sunday’s 33-3 annihilation of the Seattle Seahawks saw all of that dangerous Raider speed reach its full potential.
It’s getting to the point where you can set your watch to Darren McFadden eclipsing the century mark. Run DMC did it again posting 111 yards on 21 carries and was a shoestring tackle away from another long sprint to [...]
Easy Pickings: Manny Pacquiao & The Myth of Soft Competition

Perhaps a certain amount of backlash against Manny Pacquiao was inevitable. Overexposure has probably been the catalyst for some sort of resentment from the easily resentful. While other fighters, apparently agoraphobics, spend most of their time Twe…
Retro Recap: 10/19/1985 – The I-70 Series: Game 1
Written by Michael Engel | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals), MLB
To calm my nerves about the Royals second appearance in the World Series, I went and saw the new blockbuster hit Back to the Future and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait until we have flying cars like the one at the end of the film.
First a reminder, due to the alternating DH rules, the Royals will be without a DH during the World Series. I think this puts us at a disadvantage as it takes Hal McRae out of the lineup for the most part. Sure, he only had a .259 batting average, but he drove in 70 [...]
