Gilbert Melendez, Eddie Alvarez and 8 Others Who Should Fight in the UFC

Written by Josh Sanchez | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Cage Pages (MMA)

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is the most recognized organization when it comes to mixed martial arts. It has some competition with organizations like Strikeforce, Bellator and DREAM, but the UFC is looked at as the major leagues—the “big show” if you will.
With so many fighters around the world, it is nearly impossible for the UFC to have the top guys at every division on their roster. The program took a step forward when folding sister promotion World Extreme Cagefighting’s lighter weight classes into the UFC. It added a new stable of dynamic, world-class fighters.
However, there are still some big names [...]

Can the Colts Bring Revenge To the Texans On Monday Night?

Written by Josh Dhani | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Naptown's Finest (Colts), NFL, Titan Sized (Titans)

Peyton Manning, unsurprisingly, was very frustrated when the Indianapolis Colts lost to the Houston Texans an embarrassing 34-24 blowout. All eyes were on Arian Foster, who ran for a team-record of 231 rushing yards which has helped him become the league’s leading-rusher so far.
Foster was unstoppable as the Colts couldn’t stop the running back’s combination of size and speed. He was too big for cornerbacks to tackle and too fast for linebackers get a hand on. Not only did the defense have a problem, but so did the offense.
The running game never got clicking. Manning arguably had one of the [...]

Plenty of Lions Deserve Game Balls in Win Over Washington Redskins

Written by Zac Snyder | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)

It seems like any time the Lions win there are a multitude of players to point to that played big roles. That was certainly the case today in the Lions’ 37-25 victory over the Washington Redskins. The defense announced their presence from the get-go and Matthew Stafford was able to work through the rust to keep the Lions offense rolling.
The victory truly was a team effort but there are a few guys that deserve special recognition. That being the case, here are the guys on offense, defense, and special teams that get a symbolic game ball from me.
Offensive Game Ball: [...]

Chiefs Beat Bills 13-10 In Most Exciting Game Ever

Written by Patrick Allen | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs), BuffaLowdown (Bills)

The Kansas City Chiefs made sure all of their fans got more than a few Halloween scares.
Todd Haley and the Chiefs kept the Buffalo Bills winless by winning the game in the final seconds of overtime on a Ryan Succop FG.
Succop had a chance to win the game earlier when he saw his 39-yard FG get blown off course by the swirling winds of Arrowhead.
The Bills also had their chances. Their first came at the end of regulation when the Bills found themselves on the KC 41-yard line with under a minute to go with the game tied. 10-10. Fitzpatrick [...]

We got a series; Colby Lewis is spectacular

Written by Austin Waldron | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Nolan Writin' (Rangers)

Last night went exactly how the Texas Rangers needed it to. Down 2-0 in the World Series and facing an almost impossible mountain if they went down 3-0, the Rangers got the start they needed from…

Halftime Adjustments

Written by Patrik Nohe | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | The Pewter Plank (Bucs)

So far, so good. The Bucs lead the Cardinals 24-14 at halftime at University of Phoenix Stadium. It hasn’t been a beautiful game so far but in the NFL, style points don’t matter. The Bucs are looking to improve to 5-2 and make Raheem Morris seem a little less crazy by claiming to coach the NFC’s best squad.
A quick breakdown, the Cardinals scored first to go up 7-0 and then went up 14-7 when Sammie Stroughter muffed a fair catch inside of the Bucs’ own 20 yard-line. But the Buccaneers have been resilient and have scored touchdowns behind a strong [...]

Max Hall Throws Three TD’s in First Half, Two of Them to Tampa

Written by Scott Allen | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Raising Zona (Cardinals)

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Max Hall threw three touchdowns in the first half.  Unfortunately, two of them were thrown to the Tampa Bay Bucs.  Those picks, sent Hall to the sideline and brought back Derek Anderson, which has led to a Tampa
Anderson’s presence was immediately felt.  He threw a long down field pass to Steve Breaston to set up the potential game-tying score in the second quarter.  The Cards eventually failed to score on 4th down.  Hall did throw a touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald to start the scoring.

The question is, does Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt stick with Anderson at least [...]

Packers Ground the Jets 9-0; First Shut Out on the Road since 1991

Written by ilovemypackers | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | LombardiAve (Packers), NFL

For the first time since 1991, the Green Bay Packers have shut out the opposing team on the road.
This was not just any opposing team, but the high ranked, high powered NY Jets.
The game was a defensive chess match and the Packers picked off each of the Jets attempts to drive.  We had several key players step up today, namely Kicker  Mason Crosby who kicked 3 field goals during the blustery game, giving the Packers the lead in the 1st quarter. The next two field goals came in the 4th Quarter, with the final 3pts added with just 23 seconds [...]

World Series Game 3 Recap

Written by joehan | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Cubbies Crib (Cubs)

The buzz surrounding the first two games of the Series revolved around the big time starting pitchers. Tim Lincecum. Cliff Lee. Matt Cain. And rightfully so.
But the highlight of Game 3 reminded us that clutch hitting is also a key ingredient for postseason success. Not only was Mitch Moreland’s three run blast in the bottom of the 2nd inning a clutch hit that ended up being the game winner, but it was a timely break through that may have swung the momentum back in favor of the Rangers as they attempt to get back even in the Series. And if [...]

Grade Mike Shanahan

Written by PennSkinsFan | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (Redskins), NFL

The Redskins fall to the Detroit Lions today 38-25.  We are now 8 games through the Redskins season, that is the half way mark.  The Redskins enter the Bye Week at 4-4, 4-2 in the NFC and 2-0 in the NFC East.  Redskins schedule gets a but tougher after the bye week, with a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, two against the NFC East leading NY Giants, the Tennessee Titans, and the resurgent Jacksonville Jaguars.
Grade Shanny an A, B, C, D, or F.
At the half way mark, time for you, Redskins Nation, to grade Mike Shanahan at his mid-term.  You [...]

Vikings Hold Up in First Half vs. New England

Written by Dan Zinski | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)

Brett Favre may have looked gimpy coming out for the first half against New England, but he ended up playing some of his best ball of the year.  “Best ball” in this case meant handing off to Adrian Peterson a lot, hitting Percy Harvin over the middle and not making any dumb mistakes like trying to force it downfield to Randy Moss who was double-covered pretty much the entire half.
Things might’ve gone even better for the Vikings but for a completely crazy bad break:  Madieu Williams appeared to have a pick but the ball went right through his arms to [...]

Bills Let Another Game Slip Away

Written by Brennan Cooper | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)

It appears that the Bills may be destined to get that #1 pick in next year’s draft. The Bills gave another valiant effort on the road against a contending team in the AFC, and yet again, came up just short of a win. I suppose if there is any team that should settle for consolation prizes, it is one that is 0-7, but it’s another chapter in the story of incredible losses for the Bills franchise.

The Bills were pretty much dominated for the entire first half of the football game, but were able to head into the half with just [...]

Quick Hitters: Lions 37 Redskins 25

Written by Spence | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (Redskins), NFL

There is plenty of blame to go around for this loss, Washington’s 4th of the season to even their record at 4-4 going into the bye. Let’s run them down one by one.  The offensive line was a disgrace, allowing Detroit’s defensive front four to get pressure on QB Donovan McNabb all day. C Casey Rabach was so intimidated by DT Ndamukong Suh that he stepped back too early twice in the first quarter and tripped his own quarterback, leading to sacks on both plays. The Lions finished with 6 sacks — 2 each by Suh, DE Kyle Vanden Bosch [...]

Dolphins Moving Up in AFC East

Written by Patrik Nohe | October 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Phin Phanatic (Dolphins)

Earlier today the Miami Dolphins beat the Cincinnati Bengals 22-14 in Cincy. The game was far from sexy, with the Dolphins converting only one drive for a touchdown and kicking five field goals, but the NFL is not a league that doles out style points. A win is a win. I’m sure anyone in the Dolphins locker-room would agree.
Just ask the Jets, earlier today the Dolphins’ hated rivals from the north dropped a hard-fought battle to the Green Bay Packers. Despite holding the Packers to just 237 yards and preventing Green Bay from scoring a single touchdown, the Jets still [...]
