Smackdown 12/31/10 Review

Written by chicknwings | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Daily DDT (Wrestling)

Here is what went down on the last WWE programming’s last show of 2010:

-Starts off with Dolph Ziggler, with Vickie who seems a bit icky (lol). Vickie then starts talking about filling a complaint against Cena for what he tried to do to her last week on Smackdown. She then says because of that, she now has vertigo. Dolph Ziggler then gives the definition of vertigo. Vickie then goes back to talking about vertigo. She then goes on to demand the people show her some respect. Kofi Kingston’s music plays and he comes down to the ring. Kofi says that [...]

Ironic Parallels in Nationals’ History

Written by Frank Meyer | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | District on Deck (Nats)

The first step to making the Nationals a great franchise is to understand what made this team great and what made this team terrible. The short span of time that Washington had a great baseball franchise was from 1923-1933. This team was composed of strong pitchers and great hitters. The terrible Washington teams have the common theme of no identity, and you can not find a characteristic to describe the teams approach such as power hitting, power pitching, or speed and defense. The current Nationals franchise seems to have an understanding of Washington baseball history.
The only world series by a [...]

USA Wins Group, Advances to Semis

Written by Fetch | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | The College Hockey Blog

It was a tough game, and Swiss goalie Benjamin Conz played out of his mind, but the defending champion United States defeated Switzerland 2-1 to win their group at the World Junior Championships. The US will get a bye to the semifinals where they will meet the winner of Switzerland and Canada, who lost in a shootout to Sweden earlier in the day to finish 2nd in their group. Switzerland actually got on the board first, but the US responded when a Swiss player checked Boston College defenseman Patrick Wey from behind and received 2+10. That penalty seemed to energize [...]

Bryce Harper: Hype or Real Deal

Written by Frank Meyer | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | District on Deck (Nats)

Over the years baseball has had its share of draft picks that have been a complete bust, but mostly this occurs from reading stat lines without watching these players. Harper has not faced major league pitching, but he has developed hitting skills that most players don’t develop until a few years in the league. Lets remember that he is still a teenager, and I believe he is ready to hit major league pitching now. He is relentless in his practice and preparation toward the game, and this is a common habit of the great players. This kid is a winner and he [...]

Pekka Rinne was in goal for Nashville making 22 saves on 23 shots, picking up his first win in six starts to improve to 9-10-4 on the season. Rinne’s former teammate in Finland, Niklas Backstrom was the losing goaltender [...]

National Pastime

Written by Frank Meyer | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | District on Deck (Nats)

Washington DC played a huge part in the origin of the national pastime as one of the first baseball team’s was the Washington Nationals. Growth and prosperity is best achieved when goals are established and current performances are evaluated. The history of winning baseball franchises is quite bare in Washington, and the only championship was captured in 1924 by the Washington Senators. Many great players have graced the DC area which included hall of famers Harmon Killebrew, Walter Johnson, and Leon “Goose” Goslin. There were periods of time when Washington hosted a contender that challenged annually for the championship, but [...]

St. Louis Cardinals 2010 Year in Review: From A to Z

Written by Ryne Gery | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)

The 2010 St. Louis Cardinals had a tough year in the standings, but there were still some memorable moments in St. Louis and beyond. The Cards year in review from August to Zack Cox covers the good, the bad, and the ugly of the past year.
A is for August. Specifically August 9, the start of the Cardinals first big series with the Reds. St. Louis came to Cincinnati trailing the Reds by two games and left in first place after a sweep. The series featured some memorable scraps and many believed it would set the tone for the pennant race. [...]

Nationals’ Resolutions

Written by Frank Meyer | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | District on Deck (Nats)

The 2010 season was disappointing for the Nationals as a great start was squandered, and it seemed as the team failed to reach its potential. 2011 is redemption for some players who were expected to have great seasons, and the biggest sting from 2010 was the injury to Stephen Strasburg. The history of baseball in the DC area is not rich with winning, but 2010 was still a step forward. 2011 should bring more growing pains as this team will seek its identity, although 82 wins would be huge strides forward for the future.
Washington Nationals’ Resolutions for 2011 :
1. [...]

Detroit Lions 2010 in Review: June

Written by latifmasud | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)

Previous Month: May
June: one of the most hated months in the calendar for me. Not only is it hot outside with nothing to do, but there is next to no football activity. It wasn’t any different for the Lions in 2010. The month saw plenty of stories like “rookie x making big impressions on coaching staff” or “rookie y signs a 3 year deal with team”. There was, however, two stories that highlighted the month of June.
Right on the first of the month, there was a story out that the St. Louis Rams might be parting ways with their Pro [...]

So What?!

Written by Riley Moore | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | 12th Man Rising (Seahawks), Ramblin' Fan (Rams)

By Joe Okabe Listen. You can hear it already. The murmurs, the whispers that will soon turn into a crescendo on Monday morning. The cacophony of complaints that neither the Rams nor the Seahawks are deserving of a playoff berth. It’s possible that two 10-win teams might be shut out of the playoffs while the 8-8 Rams or the 7-9 Seahawks not only make the postseason, they get to host a first-round game! Under normal circumstances, I’d agree with them. However, as Seahawks fans are well aware, these are not normal circumstances. The winner of Sunday night’s Rams/Seahawks game will [...]
