The Washington Nationals have offered 1B Adam LaRoche a two year deal, reported to be in the $8 to $9 million range per season. The deal comes after 1B Derek Lee agreed to a one year deal with the Baltimore Orioles.
4:51pm: Jen Royle of MASN tweets that the two sides are discussing a multiyear deal in the $8-9MM per season range. Even the low end of that range would represent a higher average annual value than the $21MM LaRoche is reportedly seeking over three years. Royle confirmed that the annual payout being discussed is higher [...]

Written by Sam McPhee | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | King James Gospel (NBA)
It’s 10:50 am here in Australia, wanted to wish you all a happy new year. Been a very rough year if you’re a Cavalier or LeBron fan so it’s good to put all this behind us and get ready for a big 2011. If you’re a Cavs fan let’s hope we get that first pick and start building again. If you’re a Heat fan let’s hope they go all the way. If you’re a LeBron fan let’s hope he can start cutting into Kobe’s championship lead and also that people start to get off his back about the mistakes he’s [...]

Pitt’s New Football Coach – ARRESTED for Domestic Violence
Written by melli | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Hail WV (West Virginia)
WNDU out of South Bend, Indiana is reporting that the newly hired University of Pittsburgh Coach, Mike Haywood, has been arrested in South Bend for domestic violence. Former ND offensive Coord, new Pitt coach Haywood Arrested . Wow, Pitt sure knows how to pick a winner! I find it amusing that Pitt supposedly released Dana Holgorsen as a candidate for their new coach because they ‘didn’t agree with his lifestyle’. Apparently they chose someone with higher morals- someone who not only knows how to push men around on the football field, but knows how to push around women, too! There [...]

Dylan Olsen Leaves Duluth For Pros
Written by Fetch | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | The College Hockey Blog
According to Kevin Pates of the Duluth News Tribune, Minnesota-Duluth defenseman Dylan Olsen has finished his college career. After his time at World Juniors is done the first round pick will be playing for Rockford of the AHL after signing a three year entry level deal with the Blackhawks, who took him with their 1st pick in the 2009 draft.
The Calgary native had 1 goal and 13 points in 17 games for Duluth this year, and his exit will leave a huge hole on the blueline for the Bulldogs. With he and Justin Faulk at World Juniors, Duluth lost 5-0 [...]

Written by Michael Engel | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals), MLB
I gotta tell ya, writing on this site has been a treat. It’s connected me with many other hardcore Royals fans who know their stuff. It’s really a wonderful community of baseball fans. There’s always a lively discussion going on somewhere, be it on Twitter, a messageboard, or in blog posts.
Really, following the Royals shouldn’t be a fun activity. The team stinks. We’ve stunk for a while. And yet…
Writing for the Fansided Network has taken what could have been a crap year personally and turned it into a very rewarding experience. So on behalf of the current staff at Kings [...]
Cardinals Get Ready to Usher Out 2010 Season
Written by Scott Allen | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | 12th Man Rising (Seahawks), Raising Zona (Cardinals), Ramblin' Fan (Rams)
Sunday’s matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49′ers was supposed to be the game that would decide the NFC West. Instead, it is the other matchup, the St. Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football, that will decide it all. Oh how far off were those predictions?
Instead this Sunday we will be watching a battle for third place in the division. Even after the first five weeks when the Cards were 3-2 and the Niners 0-5 who would have thought we would have ended up here? Well, even with Derek Anderson at [...]

Panthers Fox out

The Carolina Panthers made it official, informing head coach John Fox and his staff that this Sunday will be their last game for the Panthers.
“I told John today that I appreciate everything he has done for us over the last nine years, but as happens in this business, it is time for both sides to move in different directions,” Panthers owner Jerry Richardson in a statement. “While we haven’t accomplished all of the goals we set as an organization when we signed him in 2002, we have certainly had our share of high moments -– the Super Bowl, two NFC [...]
Detroit Lions 2010 in Review: April
Written by Zac Snyder | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)
Previous Month: March
April means NFL Draft.
Possibilities abound in the draft but fans always want to talk about the least likely scenario: the trade down. That took a big hit early in April when the Redskins completed a trade for Donovan McNabb. The Lions only hope to trade down would have been to have someone willing to jump the Redskins to grab a quarterback but the need to jump Washington fanished when they addressed their quarterback spot (or so they thought at the time!).
The Rams were sold on Sam Bradford as the number one pick quite early in April, that was [...]

Derrek Lee signs with O’s and Nats now look to LaRoche
Written by Scott Stewart | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | District on Deck (Nats)
It had been rumored that Lee was the Nationals main target to replace Adam Dunn next season however though it was announced today that Lee has signed a 1 year deal with the Baltimore Orioles.
Having now officially lost out on Derrek Lee it is being reported that the Nationals have offered Adam LaRoche a 2 year deal with the amount of the offer not yet being reported. LaRoche was quoted earlier this month as having said
“If we come on the same page, I would definitely have interest in playing for them,”
so he would not be opposed to signing with the [...]
How Much Does Ryan Franklin Have Left?
Written by Alex Brown | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)
Between the star-powered starting rotation and the potentially problematic middle relief, it is often easy to forget about the man at the end of the line for St. Louis: Closer Ryan Franklin. With Wainwright, Carpenter, and Garcia absorbing most of the pitching spotlight, Franklin has become, in a way, a minor detail in the big picture of the organization.
Since Adam Wainwright’s incredible series of post-season performances leading to a World Series Title in 2006, the closer role has received little attention. However, given the fact that closers are an extremely essential key to success in October, it would be quite [...]
