There are some rumors swirling about that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss could leave the team after this season to take the offensive coordinator job at Florida.
This business started last week when ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Weiss could leave KC for another job and that he would be replaced by Josh McDaniels.
Then, Pat Dooley down in Florida who works for the Gainesville Sunreported that he is hearing there is a chance Weis could be a leading candidate to take over as the Florida Gators offensive coordinator.
Specifically, here is what Dooley said:
“In terms of Florida’s Offensive Coordinator, if [...]

One And Done For Weis?
Written by Merlin | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)
Will Charlie Weis leave the Kansas City Chiefs after this season? I know it sounds strange, but Pro Football Talk is reporting that this might indeed be the case.
The only logical explanation of a Weis-Todd Haley break would be something personal. (Weis wanting a lighter work schedule or to return to college? Personality conflict?) Weis’ results in Kansas City have exceeded all expectations.
Personally, I thought that it was more likely that Romeo Crennel would be the first coordinator to leave. He could be a hot NFL coaching prospect again. Weiss? I thought he was back to his prime spot [...]
Arizona Here I Come…

As we enter the calm period before the storm of Spring Training, it’s a time to rest and recharge our batteries. In that vein, I’m heading off on a respite from baseball and getting my BCS Bowl game on in Phoeniz, AZ. Being alums of the University of Connecticut and loyal football fans, my wife and I are heading down for UConn’s 1st ever BCS bowl appearance in the Fiesta Bowl tomorrow night and then for a week of relaxation in the warm(er) desert air. Never fear loyal readers because our other writer, Brian Cooney, will have my back and [...]

Some Marlins Hall of Fame thoughts to end the year
Written by Michael Jong | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Marlin Maniac (Marlins)
I’d like to wish everyone a happy new year going into 2011. The start of 2011 promises good new things for me, and I hope it does so as well for all of you Maniacs and the Marlins that we love so much. With the Hall of Fame voting looming and the annual discussions on who should be in, who shouldn’t be in, and why Bert Blyleven was vastly superior to Jack Morris (agreed), I had a few thoughts on the Hall of Fame with regards to the Marlins. I looked back last year at two articles that I had [...]
Good News for Hoosiers
Written by iufan24 | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Hoosier State of Mind (Indiana)
According to a source close to the Hoosier football program, wide receiver Demarlo Belcher will be returning for his senior season. This will be a big boost for the receiving core and will help give a new QB another weapon on offense. The source said Belcher was estimated to go in a “good round” after sending in his papers for the NFL Draft. Belcher will return, however, because of his desire to work with the “great staff” coach Kevin Wilson has put together, according to the source.
Belcher led the Big Ten in receptions last season with 78. He was fifth [...]
Pittsburgh Pirates: The Best Of 2010
Written by Tom Smith | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Rum Bunter (Pirates)
Most of the 2010 Pirates season reminded me of Shake Weight. But as we take a final look at the 2010 season, we found some serious positives. The prevailing theme being one thing. Youth.
In 2010, former Pirates 3B Jose Bautista blasted homer after homer. Meanwhile, some disgusted Pirates fans cursed rookie phenom Pedro Alvarez which enraged us and nearly encited the first riot in PNC Park history. But then September came and Alvarez turned into a stone cold baseball murderer. We are still on the lookout for the hillbillies that were at PNC for Pedro’s debut.
Pirates manager John Russell was shown the door. The most remarkable [...]
Last Game of 2010
Written by sfwyee | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Blue Man Hoop (Warriors)
From the outset, this season seemed like any other season in the past couple of years. High expectations, but the team always fall short with lots of turmoil, drama and most importantly a lot of “L’s.” But things were in motion for this year especially when the team was sold and bought by an owner who seems willingly to spend money and get some good players. Not at all surprising, but Monta Ellis and Steph Curry have meshed better than expected making an unbelievable and dynamic back-court. Might I even dare say that they are one of the best back-courts in the [...]
Should The Chiefs Be Rooting For Cleveland Sunday?
Written by Patrick Allen | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs), Nice Pick, Cowher (Steelers)
The Kansas City Chiefs have wont he AFC West and the only thing they have left to control is whether they are the #3 or #4 seed in the playoffs.
We talked earlier in the week about the possibility of the Chiefs being able to decide their playoff path. By intentionally resting their starters and thus likely losing to the Raiders, the Chiefs could “chose” to play the Ravens at home and then Patriots on the road if they wanted to.
Most AA readers agreed that the Chiefs’ easiest playoff path was likely to win vs. Oakland and host the Jets in [...]
A’s New Year’s Resolution: Stay Healthy
Written by Joseph Lopez | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | MLB, Swingin' A's (Athletics)
The A’s will enter the new year as an upgraded team thanks to a series of additions this offseason, but the team will need to stay healthy in 2011 if they are to catch the Texas Rangers in the AL West. The A’s finished the 2010 season on a winning note, as the team won four-straight to finish at 81-81. Injuries to Eric Chavez, Ben Sheets, Justin Duchscherer, among other star players, plagued the team in 2010, and the team needs a relatively healthy 2011 campaign to stay competitive.
When you think about it, it’s almost freakishly amazing how many players [...]
Drinking Games And Dog Houses
Written by Mary O'Malley | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Fire that Cannon (Blue Jackets)
I like Jake Voracek. I don’t know him, never met him but I like him. He seems to be playful and funny and just an all around good fella.
Well, Jake’s in the dog-house. He’s been on the “healthy-scratch” list of late. I hate this. I like watching this kid play, but I have to admit he can be a bit frustrating. He’s got the “Almost bulls-eye” thing going. Almost hitting the net doesn’t win games. For awhile there, it was a drinking game when the Jackets played: When the whistle blew and it was off-sides, if they mentioned Jake, take [...]
Tigers’ Clete Thomas Facing Career Crossroads this Spring
Written by John Parent | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Motor City Bengals (Tigers)
Detroit Tigers outfielder Clete Thomas has long been one of manager Jim Leyland’s favorite players. During Spring Training last year, Thomas was locked in a battle with utility-man Don Kelly for the club’s final roster spot. A shoulder injury sidelined Thomas for the final two weeks of camp and effectively sealed his fate. Thomas began the season in Triple-A for the Toledo Mudhens.
He struggled out of the gate with Toledo, but his bat was heating up in mid-May. Thomas began to show the power stroke that had made him a batting practice spectacle in his time in the [...]

A Case for Mike Nolan

Orlando Magic Notebook: Ball Movement, Rebounding, Technical Fouls
Written by Andrew Melnick | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Howard the Dunk (Magic)
Balance, Ball Movement Key During Win Streak
During Orlando’s recent win streak, they’ve shown improvement in nearly every facet of the game. They’re still a work in progress but their defense has shown signs of improvement and their offense is clearly playing much better.
The Magic are using excellent ball movement to get much better shots. Magic players aren’t afraid to make the extra pass and their unselfishness is really paying off.
Since the Magic now have so many players who can put the ball in the basket, remaining unselfish is the key.
“I think we’re playing, for the most part, unselfish,” point guard [...]
