Did you miss Zachary? Well, he’s back!
Okay, so maybe it’s not the return of Greinke…or anything like Greinke for that matter. Nonetheless, the Royals signed ex-Detroit Tiger Zach Miner, a right-handed pitcher, to a minor-league deal today. It’s not a hugely notable deal, but it could have an impact down the line. So, I want to run over a few things about Miner.
The first thing to note about this is that Miner is a 28-year-old pitcher with four years of major league experience. He missed all of 2010 and underwent Tommy John surgery, so it’s hard to know what we’ll [...]

Detroit Lions 2010 in Review: February
Written by Zac Snyder | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)
Previous Month: January
The old saying goes that offense wins games but defense wins championships. That may be true in general but the New Orleans Saints proved it doesn’t have to be that way as they became one of the worst defensive teams to ever win a Super Bowl. They made big plays when they needed one but the Saints rode their high powered to their first world championship.
I’m sure there were a number of Lions fans that watched what the Saints accomplished and tried to picture the Lions in a similar position. They had entrenched Matthew Stafford as their starter [...]
Delayed Entrance to the Alumni Game
Written by Philip Van der Vossen | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Capitals Outsider (Capitals)
My wife and I arrived around 8:30 AM, to pick-up our tickets from Will Call, in order to catch the highly anticipated Alumni Game. We casually checked out the Fan Fest that was going on, and just after 9:00 AM we decided to make our way into the stadium for the 9:30 game. Unfortunately we were not aware that only one gate was being utilized for entry, and half an hour later, after battling an increasingly frustrated crowd, we still had not made our way safely inside. The crowd grew restless, began voicing their displeasure, and pushing forward. The security [...]
A’s Top Three Moments of 2010
Written by Joseph Lopez | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)
The Oakland A’s surprised many people this year, as the team finished with a .500 record and a second-place finish in the American League West. The team, anchored by a stellar cast of young arms, stayed in the division race for much of the year before losing out to the eventual AL Pennant winners Texas Rangers.
While the A’s missed out on the playoffs for a fourth straight year, the team did show a ton of promise and upside in 2010. Heading into 2011, the A’s will be led by their young rotation that led baseball in quality starts (109). The [...]

5) Rose Named to All-Star Team
It may not seem like a big deal to some people, the All-Star game is every year. The amount of times players travel to the All-Star game each year seems like a trivia question rather than a real accomplishment. That changes when you haven’t been represented in the All-Star game in over 10 years. The last time the Chicago Bulls had an All-Star was when that All-Star was Michael Jordan. That is, until Derrick Rose was voted to the All-Star team as a reserve.
This represents more than merely then just having an All-Star and having [...]

Five Questions for Side Lion Report
Written by Dan Zinski | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)
Our last five questions segment of 2010 features Zac Snyder of SideLion Report. We begin the Q&A with one about the Lions’ success in 2010 and where they need to go from here:
TVA: The Lions definitely took a step in the right direction this year. What do they have to do now to take the next step and actually become playoff contenders?
SLR: The Lions can be playoff contenders next year if they can stay healthy, particularly at quarterback, and put together another solid draft class. The Lions have suffered from a talent gap in the [...]
Rajon Rondo

A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN is reporting that Rajon Rondo will be a game time decision for tonight’s game against the New Orleans Hornets. Rondo has missed the last 10 games with an ankle injury and is getting closer to returning with each passing day.
The Celtics could use all the help they could get after losing Kevin Garnett on Wednesday for at least two weeks with a calf injury.
The Celtics play at home tonight against the Hornets and then travel to Toronto to face the Raptors on Sunday.
Spurs Defeat Dallas
Written by jrobertstad | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | The Smoking Cuban (Mavericks)
The Mavs weren’t able to squeeze by the Spurs Thursday in Dallas. Dirk Nowitzki watched from the sidelines as rookie Gary Neal and the rest of the Spurs moved to 27-4.
Neal shot 5-8 from the three-point line, including a late dagger when Dallas was attempting a late comeback.
Jason Kidd recorded his 106th career triple-double, finishing with 12 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds.
As predicted, there wasn’t any question about the high intensity both teams brought to the AAC. Kidd was noticeably more vocal than he has been lately, and Tyson Chandler wasn’t happy with himself each time Tim Duncan scored. [...]

Mayo: Everyone that can play will play
Written by jamie | December 31, 2010 | Comments Off | Musket Fire (New England Patriots), NFL, Phin Phanatic (Dolphins)
Patriots linebacker and captain Jerod Mayo may have tipped the hand of the team for Sunday’s game during an appearance on Comcast Sports Net’s Quick Slants with Tom Curran. Mayo was asked about playing in and preparing for an essentially a meaningless game for the Patriots. Mayo said that the Patriots are preparing like it’s a regular week of football and noted that, “Everyone that can play will play.” Now, that phrase could of course be twisted somewhat, as any little injury could be used as an excuse not to play. However, I have a feeling that it will be [...]

Wyoming Men’s Basketball Conference Meltdown
In the spring of 2010 the Cowboys struggled mightily due to the season ending injury of Afam Muojeke (above) and finished with a 3-13 record in MWC play. The Pokes followed that up with a loss to Air Force in the pig tail game in Vegas. [...]

Outside the stadium, fans are greeted with the Founder’s Plaza, an area honoring Lamar Hunt, the franchise’s founder. The area features a statue of Hunt and serves as a tribute to the original AFL teams. Personalized bricks are installed in the walkways to honor the Chiefs’ most loyal fans.
Not far from the Founder’s Plaza was a tent featuring a six feet by seven feet Arrowhead Stadium cake assembled by ultimate cake artist Mike Elder. Fans were able to [...]
