Heath Schroyer Will You Please Go Now

Written by cowboytough | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | 7220 Report (Wyoming)

After the success of last football season’s Green Eggs and Ram, 7220 Report presents: Heath Schroyer Will You Please Go Now. That’s about all we can say after the game in San Diego on Saturday night. Only a lunatic would think that Wyoming had a chance to win the game but getting beat by the score of 96-57 is unacceptable. We wish we could bring good news but we can’t as #9 BYU and Jimmer come to Laramie. He could go for 50 if he wanted to and he very well may. As much as we would like it Schroyer isn’t going anywhere until after the season, [...]

A’s Notes: Contracts, Uniforms, & More!

Written by Joseph Lopez | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)

The A’s reached agreements with a few players earlier last week, and did not have to go through an arbitration hearing. Oakland reached a deal with reliever Craig Breslow earlier last week, reports the A’s official site. According to Jane Lee of MLB.com, the A’s rewarded Breslow with a $1.4 million contract, after he earned just $425,000 in 2010. Breslow, 30, went 4-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 74.2 innings this year out of Oakland’s bullpen. The A’s bullpen will be a big strength heading into the 2011 season, and getting Breslow signed was a priority for the team, as [...]

Berkman’s Confidence Perfect For Cardinals

Written by Alex Brown | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)

Lance Berkman has not yet played a single game in a Cardinal uniform, but he’s already making his presence felt in St. Louis. Berkman, one of the team’s several free agent acquisitions this offseason, is holding nothing back in regards to his decision to sign a one year, $8 million contract with the Redbirds. In case you haven’t already heard the story, here’s a quick rundown. Basically, as the 34-year-old Berkman contemplated retirement upon the conclusion of the 2010 season, he drew interest from both the Cardinals and Rangers. He said that he could have gotten the most money from [...]

Use the Force, Luke

Written by Michael Engel | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals)

Much of the Royals success in 2011 (if there’s to be any at all) is tied into the starting rotation.  After the trade of Zack Greinke, the starters seem to be put together by baling wire and Big League Chew.  With leading candidates Luke Hochevar, Kyle Davies, Vin Mazzaro, Sean O’Sullivan, Jeff Francis and Bruce Chen, you have a group of young guys who may or may not ever be league average statistically and two lefties, one of which could pitch 30 or 130 innings and neither would be surprising, while the other is on his 45th team in his [...]

…And We’re Back! All Star Fun, Ducks On A Tear and Danny Sexton – The Human Yo-Yo

Written by Susan s-k Lee | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Ducks Daily Blog (Ducks)

Going into the break, the Ducks have won four of their last five and are looking pretty fine despite the fact that everyone and their grandmother who isn’t a Ducks fan keeps harping at me that our defense is still lacking. The win against Columbus was a bit strange as the Blue Jackets seemed to be vacillating between aggression and diving, as if they couldn’t make up their minds – or maybe they were just trying to confuse Anaheim. Early in the first, Corey Perry misplaces the puck behind the net and Dorsette absolutely drills him between the shoulder blades, [...]

Terps May or May Not Have Lost Another Recruit

Written by petevolk | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Terrapin Station (Maryland)

The decommitments have been picking up steam in the past couple of weeks, and another one might have just occurred – Geoff Vogt, a Scout.com Florida (the state) analyst, reported that outside linebacker Jimmy Stewart has switched his commitment to Vanderbilt, joining James Franklin. This is a little surprising, as Florida is Don Brown’s area, but it’s not confirmed yet. A source close to Stewart says that he won’t make his decision until signing day, so I’m not ready to declare him gone. We did an interview with Stewart here previously and also did a film review. He’s a good [...]

Declaring WAR on MLB’s Biggest Contracts

Written by Logan Burdine | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rox Pile (Rockies)

Out of the top 25 earners, only four players came close to earning their money: Miguel Cabrera, Matt Holliday, Roy Halladay, and C.C. Sabbathia. That’s it. The rest were basically money pits.

The State of the Islanders At the All Star Break, My Opinion Only

Written by John Panarese | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Eyes on Isles (Islanders)

I always find it interesting and sometimes humorous when I read all of the comments and opinions that float around and are exchanged in Islander country.  Not that we, as Isles fans, have not had more than our share of frustrations and hardships  over the years, but the frequent negativity and lack of faith in the team and organization seen in recent years disturbs and disappoints me quite a bit.  I am surely not happy all of the time, but I was in business for sixteen years and I am a loyal fan who understands and appreciates the reality of [...]

Michigan State Re-cap

Written by iufan24 | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Hoosier State of Mind (Indiana)

Last night the Hoosiers fell to the Michigan State Spartans in overtime 84-83. Indiana dominated most of the game and were even up by 12 at one point early in the first half. Overall is was a stellar offensive performance by the Hoosiers. IU went 11-21 from behind the 3-point line and shot 49% overall from the floor. Christian Watford has continued his great play since the Northwestern game scoring 21 points while battling through a sore knee and a banged up wrist, both suffered during the game. Matt Roth was on fire from 3 scoring 12 points on 4-5 [...]

Written by Jordan Campbell | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Cubbies Crib (Cubs)

With February knocking on the door, that means we are a little over two weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training for the Chicago Cubs. I always love this time of year as this is when optimism is at it’s pique. For the time being it is not about winning or losing, it is just about simply welcoming back baseball into our lives. With that said, lets take a look at what is making news around the National League Central. Blog Red Machine is giving Reds fans 10 reasons to be excited for the upcoming 2011 season. [...]
