YES!!!!!

BRATKOWSKI IS GONE!!!!! THANK YOU GOD!!!!
It had to be done. Which is why we all figured Mike Brown wouldn’t do it.
By no means does this fix anything. But it will at least allow for some changes and perhaps a few fixed problems. It’s likel…

Number Two Spot: Key For Angels Lineup in 2011

Written by Kalup Alexander | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Halo Hangout (Angels)

I’m starting to get excited for the 2011 Angels.  I’ve said it before but I’m kind of an eternal optimist, so you should take my excitement  with a grain of salt.  So what has me so excited? Well, while crunching some numbers and thinking of the Angels offensive outlook for 2011, I unearthed a potential Halo lineup that shows great promise. Strangely enough my ideal lineup is centered around what happens in the often overlooked number two hole.  In baseball the number  two batting position is kind of like  the awkward teenage boy. Its just not quite sure of  itself. Some managers insist on having high [...]

I’m Back, So are the Devils

Written by Andrew Timoni | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Pucks and Pitchforks (Devils)

Hello everyone! Just a note before I start talking hockey again: I apologize for my recent absence from posting blogs and talking on Twitter. When you get into a situation where every day there’s bad news and new awful challenges to take on… something like hockey has to take a back seat. There’s a lot that has to be done for us to get our lives in order but something I plan on doing is the things I love for as long as I can. One of them is writing about hockey… so I’m back. The Devils are back as well after [...]

The Rat Trick Expansion Project

Written by Frank Rekas | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Rat Trick (Panthers)

The Rat Trick is looking to expand it’s “net presence”. Yep that’s right, create more traffic. Someone down here in South Florida has to do it, so if it’s not going to be the team on the Ice, it might as well be the team on the (inter)net. Right now, yours truly (me) and my brother’s in arms Dave Lasseter and Josh Luecht are the brains and brawn that pump out the posts. It’s been working out wonderfully. There’s going to be much more news and story lines to cover as we get into the stretch drive and trade deadline.  [...]

Pro Bowl Was A Chance For The Chiefs To Get Noticed

Written by Patrick Allen | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)

I spent the morning writing an article about how the Pro Bowl doesn’t matter and now I am going to spend the afternoon writing an article about how the Kansas City Chiefs players, especially Jamaal Charles, may have gotten some important recognition by playing well in the game that didn’t matter. While what was done on the field in the Pro Bowl is largely irrelevant, it can be a good opportunity for players to get their name out in the public eye so that they can win more Pro Bowl births and awards in the future. This is especially key [...]

Correlations Between Dustin Ackley and Realistic Expectations

Written by Taylor | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | SoDo Mojo (Mariners)

There are those who see a top prospect like Dustin Ackley and expect the worst.  He’ll bust.  He won’t hit, because the Mariners never hit.  Maybe he’ll shape up in a couple of years, but he’s going to be mediocre like all rookies.  There are also those who see a prospect like Ackley and expect him to out-produce Albert Pujols from the start.  Have you seen his minor league walk rates?  And that power surge in Tacoma?  He was the number two overall draft pick and he’s going to take Major League Baseball by storm! Both of these types of people, [...]

Adrian Peterson, Antoine Winfield Do Vikings Proud at Pro Bowl

Written by Dan Zinski | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)

Adrian Peterson and Antoine Winfield represented the Vikings at the Pro Bowl, and both ended up being big factors in the “game,” a turnover-laden 55-41 win by the NFC. Adrian got the ball early and often for the NFC, finishing with 80 yards and a TD on 14 carries. Peterson’s TD was his fourth career Pro Bowl score, a new record. Most importantly, he didn’t get hurt. Peterson’s teammate Antoine Winfield, meanwhile, notched two tackles and picked off one pass for the NFC defense. Winfield’s INT was one of five for the NFC, who turned over the AFC a total [...]

How to Improve the Pro Bowl

Written by jamie | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Musket Fire (New England Patriots)

Last night’s NFL Pro Bowl was probably one of the least entertaining few hours watching football I’ve ever experienced. The effort was horrendous, even for a meaningless game. That’s not speaking to the lopsided score, just the general effort (or lack thereof) given by all of the players involved. Of course, one could say, “Why should they? What’s the point in a meaningless game when someone could get hurt?” That is a valid point, but then for that matter, why even have a Pro Bowl? So a few millionaires can make a few extra thousand dollars? It’s time to revamp [...]

Heath, Stanford DMR on a roll

Written by Kevin Liao | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Spiked Up, Pysched Up (Track)

Stanford senior Elliott Heath kicked off his 2011 indoor season with a bang on Friday at the Razorback Invitational with a phenomenal anchor leg on the Cardinal distance medley relay.  Stanford trailed Arkansas by about three seconds after the third leg, leaving Heath a significant deficit to make up.  But with a blazing 3:55.77 1600 meter leg, Heath caught Duncan Phillips to set a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 9:29.22.  The Razorbacks finished second in 9:30.85, also a NCAA auto time. The next day, Heath won the invitational 3000 meter run in 7:52.27, another auto standard for nationals.  The University [...]

There were two former and four current Hawks to take the Ice in the All-Star game and they all played for team Lidstrom except for Patrick Sharp who was the All-Star Game MVP. Click the jump for the update for the All-Star game Dustin Byfuglien – Lidstrom 22:18 TOI, one goal, minus three, one shot Nice to see Buff out on the Ice with the boys. Martin Havlat – Lidstrom 14:51 TOI, three assists, minus one, two shots Nice job by Marty to step into the role as a sub. Looked like he was having a blast and he did [...]

Penn State Picks Up 14 Votes In The AP Poll

Written by Ben | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Victory Bell Rings (Penn State)

After picking up a win over 15th ranked Wisconsin this weekend, Penn State’s hard fought efforts for a tournament bid are beginning to be recognized by the voters in the AP poll. It has been 10 years since Penn State was last ranked, this coming during the 2001 season in which Penn State made a run to the Sweet 16. Penn State had received votes earlier in the season but not vote total larger than 2. In terms of Penn State’s NCAA Bid, being ranked really isn’t part of the equation. Penn State’s goal are based off of road wins, [...]

9.) Buccaneers 23 Saints 13

Written by Patrik Nohe | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Pewter Plank (Bucs)

It may have been bittersweet because the Bucs would miss the playoffs after the Packers won their 4 PM game, but this was arguably the best win the Bucs had all season. Coming into the game the Bucs found themselves at 9-6, clinging to slim playoff hopes and facing a team that had whipped them in Raymond James earlier in the season. Fortunately the team that played the Saints in week 17 was a completely different squad than the one the Saints decimated 31-6 in week six. Josh Freeman built on the success of the career game he’d had just [...]

Stay Inside The Lines

Written by beeker | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Stripe Hype (Bengals)

As this year’s mock drafts start to roll out, consensus is building that the Bengals will take Georgia WR A.J. Green. nate has linked to several such mock drafts. While his speed and skills are certainly tempting, we at StripeHype continue to preach that drafting him at #4 is not best for the Bengals. I won’t say that drafting Green would be a mistake. (Drafting Jake Locker at #4 would be a mistake.) He would certainly be an asset for a long time. He would be a good pick, but there are other picks who would be better. I believe [...]

Farewell to Stretch

Written by Ben Sumner | January 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Capitals Outsider (Capitals)

Brett “Stretch” Leonhardt, who became a cult hero a couple years back when he had the chance to suit up as a backup goaltender for the first period of a game, is leaving the Capitals.
