Diamondbacks Lose Another Close One

Written by Scott Allen | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Venom Strikes (DBacks)

So is this the theme of the spring? Lose but lose close? Well, close or not close, a loss is still a loss. Only winning changes an attitude 100%. if not for a 9th inning comeback yesterday, the Arizona Diamondbacks would be 0-4 in Cactus League play. Instead they are 1-3 after losing 6-5 to the Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields today. You can’t expect the Dbacks to win everyday and with as many people shuttling in and out of the lineup, it wouldn’t be prudent to expect a bunch of wins.  However, clearly the Dbacks are going to [...]

LA Clippers: Mood Swings

Written by jamesholas | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Fully Clips (Clippers)

“It was all good just a week ago…” Jay-Z  7 days ago, Blake Griffin was basking in a haze of glory;coming off of a rare Clipper victory over Minnesota in the final game before the All Star Break, he’d scored a quick 14 points in the Rookies upset of the Sophomores on Friday, he’d almost shattered the world with the dunks he missed en route to winning the Dunk Contest over a loaded field, and he was set to embark on his maiden All Star Game, where he’d tally 8 points, 5, rebounds, and 5 assists in the West’s [...]

Sharks Silent at Trade Deadline

Written by S.M. Williams | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Blades of Teal (Sharks)

Today’s often magical NHL trade deadline has come and gone with the San Jose Sharks deciding to keep their roster intact. No gang, there will be no Alexander Ovechkin coming to San Jose announcement (@#$%…again?!) nor have any new playoff mercenaries been brought on today for the Stanley Cup run.

The Knicks/Heat “Rivalry”: A Contrast of Two Eras

Written by Chase Ruttig | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Raptors Rapture (Raptors)

Look at the photo on the left, then look at the photo on the right. The left is how basketball used to be played, team defense, hard fouls, passion, and yes the occasional skirmish between opposing teams. The left is what made me and many people who read this blog love basketball and is probably one of the ten greatest rivalries of all time. As for the right? Meh it is alright I guess. Last night the Heat and Knicks played each other and seeing as each team is “back on top” ESPN made about 150 references to the Knicks/Heat [...]

Trade Deadline 2011 Wrap Up

Written by jhorbay | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Mile High Sticking (Avalanche)

Bet you wish you would have gone to work instead of taking that sick day huh? In what was one of the more lackluster Deadline days in recent memory, with only 15 deals going down, the Avalanche stood pat with their current big club roster, and made a minor league tweak. The Avs sent defenseman Kevin Montgomery to Edmonton, where he will report to AHL club Oklahoma City. In return, the Avalanche acquired D man Shawn Belle, a bit of a journeyman, this being his fourth club after doing tours of duty within the Montreal, Minnesota and of course, Edmonton [...]

A Caps Monday wrap up

Written by PennSkinsFan | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (Capitals)

PEOPLE, JOIN OUR CAPS FORUM!
It was an active day for the Washington Capitals.  Very active.
The NHL Trade Deadline has come and gone and I must admit, I like what George McPhee has done, especially at the price he paid.  McPhee obtained a second line center that this team needed, in Jason Arnott.  Arnott is a veteran who has Stanley Cup experience.  He is also 6′5″, a big addition to the Caps offense.  Arnott will mesh it up in front of the net and contribute to special teams.  I like the price as well.  Giving up draft picks sucks, but it [...]

Spears And Sensabaugh To Test Free Agent Waters

Written by ashleybolton | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | The Landry Hat (Cowboys)

According to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com, the Dallas Cowboys are are allowing defensive end Marcus Spears and safety Gerald Sensabaugh to test the free agent waters  before they offer them new contract’s. The Cowboys have been looking at players at the Senior Bowl and the Combine for possible replacements for both. Spears was replaced in the starting line up by Stephen Bowen during the 2010 season after injuring his left calf and was later placed on the injury reserve list. Spears was angry at the beginning of the2010  season because the Cowboys tendered him at his original first round pick pay of 1.226 million [...]

Penguins Stand Pat on D-Day

Written by Bill Mayer | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Pens Labyrinth (Penguins)

Feb. 28 – trade-deadline day – came and went with no movement whatsoever from the Pittsburgh Penguins. GM Ray Shero is obviously content with the current state of the team and saw no need to add/subtract from the roster or trade away a prospect/draft pick. His decision sits fine with me. It’s not as if the Pens did absolutely nothing. They traded Alex Goligoski for James Neal and Matt Niskanen and acquired Alex Kovalev in the days leading up to the deadline. Those were the moves Shero felt were necessary to help this team now and in the years to [...]
