A Mediocre Performance by Mark Ingram at the Combine
Written by massanuttenref | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Phin Phanatic (Dolphins)
The NFL Combine featured WRs, RBs, and QBs on Sunday. I was quite interested in the RBs as it is a need, this year, for the Dolphins. I particularly focused on the top three RBs. I was disappointed that Daniel Thomas (Kansas State) did not perform due to a hamstring injury. Mikel Leshoure (Illinois) performed just about as expected. But, I was really disappointed with the mediocre performance by Mark Ingram (Alabama). Mark Ingram was the Heisman Trophy winner in 2009 playing with the National Champions. In 2009, he ran 271 times for 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns in the [...]
Paging John Bale
Written by John Parent | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Motor City Bengals (Tigers)
In the eighth inning of Detroit’s 6-2 win over the Yankees in Lakeland this afternoon, Tigers left hander Daniel Schlereth had to leave the game with a left hamstring injury. On a ground ball wide of first, Schlereth raced to cover the bag but came up lame and had to be helped from the field. He will be re-evaluated tomorrow. Schlereth is slated to be the Tigers primary southpaw in the bullpen this year. The severity of what’s been called a strain for now won’t be known until the examination on Tuesday, so it’s probably not wise to speculate right [...]
Vote For Danielle From KC In The Captain Morgan BracketMaster Challenge
Written by Patrick Allen | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)
A reminder to vote for Danielle! She is tied 50-50 with her opponent so we can really make a difference in putting her over the top. Plus you really can win some great prizes doing this. You may remember earlier this week I told you that I am coaching one of Captain Morgan’s Morganettes for this year’s Captain Moran BracketMaster Challenge. Daniel from Kansas City is Arrowhead Addict and FanSided’s official Morganette! Danielle is trying to beat out 31 other Morganettes from around the country in a NCAA March Madness-style tournament. You can fill out your own bracket (making sure [...]
Baseball Prospectus only deems two Rox worthy of their distinguished list
Written by Logan Burdine | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Rox Pile (Rockies)
Today, Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus released his list of baseball’s Top 101 Prospects. Tyler Matzek and Wilin Rosario were the only Rockies selected — Matzek is 34th and Rosario is 36th. Meanwhile, ten Royals’ prospects made the cut. Each of the ten has a very bright future — just not with Kansas City. The Nationals’ Bryce Harper was ranked number one overall. Harper’s only minor league experience came last year in the Arizona Fall League. The top NL West prospect was the Giants’ Brandon Belt. Belt was ranked 22nd. Even though Goldstein snubbed several deserving Rockies, he did rank [...]
1, 2, or 3 seed in the Big Dance??
Written by thomasboesen | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Slap the Sign (Notre Dame)
In what is regarded as a down year for college basketball the Irish have emerged as a fixture in the top 10 this season. Im wondering what the fan pulse is regarding the Irish possibly garnering a top seed in the tourney.
In my opinion the Irish ̷…
Choo’s Elbow Soreness Not Related To Tommy John Surgery

Shin-Soo Choo’s recent elbow soreness is unrelated to his 2007 Tommy John elbow surgery.
Choo began feeling discomfort in the elbow but thankfully was reassured his injury was not related to the surgery via MRI. Good news for the Tribe seeing as …
Is This What We Call Blowing It Up?
Written by Frank Rekas | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | The Rat Trick (Panthers)
The Trade Deadline has come and gone and the Florida Panthers were the most active team in the NHL, giving new meaning to the phrase Fire Sale. It will remain to be seen how to measure all the moves that were made and gauge the returns, but one thing was made very clear. Dale Tallon is prepared to virtually start from scratch. I’m not going to use this time to analyze too much or break this down too much as that will come when we have more time. For now, this is what we did: Radek Dvorak to the Atlanta [...]
Attention Blackhawks: You Were Not Traded. Now Go Win.
Written by Tim Currell | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Blackhawk Up (Blackhawks)
With all the attention on the NHL trade deadline today (when the Blackhawks picked up defenseman Chris Campoli from the Ottawa Senators for pathetic minor-league flame-out Ryan Potulny and an exchange of draft picks) it was easy to forget that the ‘Hawks have a game tonight. The Men of Four Feathers are in Minnesota to take on the Wild, a team with an identical record but by virtue of the screwy tie-breaking system sit just ahead of them in the Western Conference standings. This is a must-win game, the fourth in a stretch of 22 must-win games for the Blackhawks. [...]
Lightning Stay Put on Deadline Day
Written by Keara Dowd | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Bolts at the Bay (Lightning)
Having already made some big-name trades, the Steve Yzerman and the Bolts stayed put today as the rest of the league finished re-arranging itself. This was actually a low-traffic deadline day, with only 15 deals and 31 players moved. However, this year, more than usual, high profile players were involved in trades weeks before the deadline. The Lightning had already acquired Dwayne Roloson and Eric Brewer before the deadline, shoring up their two main areas of weakness. They also parted ways with goalie Dan Ellis. If the Lightning were going to do anything today, it would have been adding some [...]
Grapefruit League: Game #1 Cards Vs. Marlins
Written by Ray DeRousse | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)
THE GOOD: Lance Berkman homered in his first at-bat, an opposite field shot spanked into the wind despite a sore elbow. Berkman also added a single to go 2-2. Tyler Greene also put his best foot forward with a 2-3 performance with a run scored. And Adron Chambers went 2-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI to provide much of the Cardinal’s offense. THE BAD: The highly anticipated debut of Cuban lefty Raul Valdes ended up a mess; he gave up four runs in 2 innings and it could’ve been worse. THE UGLY: Allen Craig had a [...]
Spring Training Notebook- 2/28/11

The Chicago Cubs Cactus League opener did not go as well as I’m sure the Cubs wanted it to, but the Cubs are trying to bounce back today against the Milwaukee Brewers. When watching or listening to Spring Training games, do not just focus on whether the Cubs win or lose the game. Instead, focus on what the players are doing within the games itself. With that said, let’s take a look at the Spring Training notebook. The Starting Rotation Competition The battle for the final two spots in the rotation is starting to heat up with Randy Wells and [...]
30 Teams, 30 Questions: Pt.5

Let’s check in on the NL Central, shall we? The Cincinnati Reds caught the entire baseball world off guard last season, but they will not be afforded that same luxury this season. That target is large to some. Chicago Cubs: Is Aramis Ramirez really the key to the success of the Cubs? He is, make [...]
Jody Gerut Retires
Written by Keith Myers | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | SoDo Mojo (Mariners)
As has been reported on the Mariner’s official team site, Jody Gerut announced his retirement this morning. “I can no longer, in good conscience, play the game in a manner that reflects the positive example for the younger generation of baseball players,” Gerut said. “Physically I’m fine. But mentally my reasons for wanting to be in uniform have become so thin and narrow that I refuse to disrespect the game that has provided so generously for my family by playing it in a halfhearted way. This game of ours owes me nothing, but I owe the game at least that [...]
(19) Villanova @ (7) Notre Dame 7ET
Written by thomasboesen | February 28, 2011 | Comments Off | Slap the Sign (Notre Dame)
Tonight the Irish (23-5, 12-4) take on Villanova (21-8, 9-7) at Purcell Pavilion. Notre Dame has won nine of their last ten and a win tonight would secure at least a second seed and double buy in the Big East conference tournament. The Wildcats are led by Seniors Corey Fisher (15.5 ppg, 5 apg) and Antonio Pena (7.5 rpg) as they look to upset the Irish’ undefeated home mark (16-0) and break their own skid of losing four of the last six. The Irish look to counter with Abromaitis and Hansbrough. Also the reemergence of Carleton Scott coming off an [...]
