One down, One to go

Written by Mike Spell | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Smoking Cuban (Mavericks)

Last night the Mavericks won their fifth straight game, defeating the L.A. Clippers 106-100.  The team will stay in L.A. tonight and play the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.  The win moved the Mavs to within a half-game of the Lakers for the second spot in the West.  A win tonight will push the Mavs past the Lakers and may put them within striking distance of the banged up, slumping Spurs. Last night, the Mavericks got off to a slow start as turnovers were once again a problem.  The team trailed after one quarter, as seems to be the pattern [...]

Written by cowboytough | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | 7220 Report (Wyoming)

It took a while but Tom Burman and the athletic department got there in naming Florida assistant Larry Shyatt the new head coach of the Wyoming Cowboys (again!). I am in full support of this move and 7220 Report will have endless analysis in the days…

Report: Chiefs To Visit With Prince Amukamara

Written by Patrick Allen | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)

Doug Farrar of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara is set to visit the Kansas City Chiefs. Well, well, well. The plot thickens. Amukamara isn’t just any first round CB. He is a top 10 prospect and some consider him to be the best CB option in the draft. We haven’t talked much about him around here because the Chiefs already have Brandon Carr, Brandon Flowers and Javier Arenas and because Amukamara is expected to be long gone by the time the Chiefs reach the podium at Radio City Music Hall. I have to believe that the [...]

Boston Or Bust

Written by Myles Robinson | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Editor in Leaf (Maple Leafs)

Despite the absence of Ryan Miller – kept out of last night’s game, due in large part to the clapper he took off the collarbone from Dion Phaneuf – the Sabres were able to secure two points in a victory over the New York Rangers last night, meaning they need just 2 wins over their last 5 games to clinch a playoff spot on their own merit. The Leafs will have to win out over their last 5, a task that starts tonight in Boston. The Bruins have already sewn up their playoff berth, and are now focused on securing [...]

Written by Ben Sumner | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Capitals Outsider (Capitals)

Check it out, it’s a Washington Capitals LEGO figure. While it has the generic Have a Nice Day face, he’s wearing No. 15 so it must be Boyd Gordon.

Written by William Sevidal | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Soaring Down South (Hawks)

I touched on this on my Magic vs. Hawks Recap, but now that the full story is out, I figured I would make a full entry about it. (Cue Music……) Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, this man is a former NBA ref. He stands roughly around 6-feet-2-inches tall, weighing in at 200 pounds. He now owns a custom clothing company. Fighting out of Atlanta, Georgia. 36 year old, Rashan “Black-Eye” Michels! Open Mouth – Insert Foot*

Written by Keith Myers | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | SoDo Mojo (Mariners)

At the start of the offseason, I went through position by position** looking at the players in either Tacoma or on the Roster and tried to figure out what talent was already here and what might need to be brought in. Just for fun, I also included some not-too-serious predictions on what the Mariners would do. Well, I decided that before the games officially begin tonight, that I should look back at my predictions and see how they went. My prediction for the outfield is exceptionally entertaining. Starting Rotation: Prediction: Reports state that the Mariners are in the market for a [...]

The Izzy Update

Written by Ben Berkon | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rising Apple (Mets)

The New York Mets/Jason Isringhausen reunion tour was just extended up-to-two weeks. The two sides agreed that the veteran right-hander will continue to pitch in the team’s Port St. Lucie extended spring training facility until the Mets feels Izzy is ready to contribute, or if another Major League franchise is willing to guarantee him a bullpen spot before that time. Regardless of the personalized deal, it still remains to be seen how the Mets’ bullpen will be able to accommodate Isringhausen in the event he’s deemed “ready.” Assuming there are no reliever injuries in the next two weeks, the last [...]

March 31st Water Cooler Chatter: Play Ball!

Written by Stephen Crociata | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Mile High Sticking (Avalanche)

Today is opening day in the MLB! Although many hockey fans are not the biggest baseball fans I’m a lover of all sports, and a HUGE Yankee fan. Since I just watched the Yanks close out their first game with a 6-3 victory I’m in a pretty good mood. Unfortunately for me the Avalanche will likely kill this mood later tonight. Especially if their game tonight starts to get late early as Yogi Berra would say. Here are your links for Thursday March 31st: -Yesterday they gave you the Frozen four Goalies today The College Hockey Blog brings us the [...]

Rays Colored Glasses: Tampa signs Wade Davis for $12.6 million

Written by Ben Ice | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rays Colored Glasses (Rays)

The Rays announced today that they’ve signed RHP Wade Davis to a seven year deal with $12.6 million guaranteed money that could keep the budding star in the Rays’ rotation through his prime years. For Davis it’s a significant bump in salary from the $404,900 he made in 2010. For the Rays it’s a smart move; they lock in the 25-year old Davis and solidify another part of their rotation for the foreseeable future. According to a report from MLBTradeRumors.com Davis’ salary breaks out as follows: 2011 – $1.0 million 2012 – $1.5 million 2013 – $2.8 million 2014 – [...]

Enter The Draft War Room

Written by Kim Constantinesco | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Predominantly Orange (Broncos)

Not much news comes out of the NFL office nowadays, but the league did release its tentative draft order. The Broncos have the following picks: Round 1, Pick 2 (2) Round 2, Pick 4 (36) Round 2, Pick 14 (46) (from Miami) Round 3, Pick 3 (67) Round 6, Pick 21 (186) (from Philadelphia through Detroit) Round 6, Pick 24 (189) (from New Orleans through New England) Round 7, Pick 46 (247) (compensatory selection) Fans can get even closer to the Broncosdraft process this year because the team has a “war room” camera via the NFL Network. This comes [...]

The Dolphins Have Desperate Needs!

Written by massanuttenref | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Phin Phanatic (Dolphins)

There has been much talk about whether to take the best available player in the NFL draft or a player that fulfills need.  But, what people don’t talk about is what does a team do if they are in desperate need?  The Dolphins have desperate needs this year.  Specifically, the Dolphins have desperate need in the middle of their offense. Let’s take a look at the middle of the Dolphins offense last year.  I believe this middle is the reason why the Dolphins had a miserable performance on offense in 2010.  At center, the Dolphins had Joe Berger.  At left [...]

NFL Reinstates Detroit’s Seventh Round Pick

Written by Patrick Allen | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)

You may remember a couple of weeks ago we told you that the NFL ruled in favor of the Chiefs when the team filed a tampering charge against the Detroit Lions. While the details of what exactly the Lions did never were revealed, the NFL levied a minor punishment against Detroit. The Lions had to swap 5th round draft picks with the Chiefs, moving KC up and Detroit down, as well as forfeit their 2011 seventh round pick. Now ESPN.com is reporting that the NFL has given those tampering Lions back their 2011 seventh rounder and will instead strip them [...]
