Patrick Peterson Denies Allegations That He Accepted Improper Benefits

Written by Sayre Bedinger | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | NFL Mocks, Other Blogs

Another accusation of a player accepting improper benefits, and another high profile player refuting those claims. As told to the USA Today, former LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson says any rumors of him taking money to play at LSU is a complete lie: “I have never had any type of relationship with Willie Lyles, and he had no influence on my decision to attend LSU, or any other school for that matter,” Peterson said through LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette. “He had no involvement with my recruiting process, and I resent the fact that my name has come up in [...]

Tigers Done-in by Old Friend, Drop Opener to Yankees

Written by John Parent | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Motor City Bengals (Tigers)

Detroit 3, New York 6 (box) Curtis Granderson was a fan favorite in his days in the Old English D. With his go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning today, Granderson is doing his best to remove all those happy memories. With the score tied at 3-3, left hander Phil Coke was summoned from the bullpen to face the former Tigers leading off the Yankees half of the frame. Coke fell behind by missing with his first two pitches, then left a fastball up in the zone which Granderson turned on and launched halfway up the second deck beyond [...]

Loose Cannon: The NHL And Car Insurance

Written by Mary O'Malley | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Too Many Men On The Site (NHL)

I wonder how the NHL would be if they ran things like a car insurance company.  Especially of late, with all the head-shots and concussions.  So next season, can we expect our premiums or ticket prices to go up?  Will there be a “vanishing deductible” for those players who are lucky enough to not be hit in the head?  As if it’s their fault in the first place.  Can you imagine a rep calling Sid and saying, “Well, Mr. Crosby this is half your fault.  If you would’ve only stayed in bed today, none of this would’ve happened.” So how much [...]

Here We Go: Opening Day! Live Game Post

Written by Dan Kienzle | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)

It’s that time Cardinals fans! The Cardinals vs. Padres game is about to begin at Busch Stadium and baseball is about to be underway once again in St. Louis! We can only hope that this beautiful sunny weather that St. Louis is experiencing on opening day (while other ballparks around the country are experiencing cold, rainy weather) is merely foreshadowing an equally bright season for the Cards in 2011. All that I can say for now is to sit back, relax, and enjoy your Cardinals! As the game goes on I will be updating this post with my summary and thoughts about the game. [...]

Carmelo Anthony: Mr. Triple Double

Written by Michael Pina | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Buckets Over Broadway (Knicks)

Yesterday, Mike D’Antoni came out and said his new star, Carmelo Anthony, could average a triple double once he became completely comfortable in the Knicks offensive system. From Frank Isola: Mike D’Antoni believes that Carmelo Anthony should be “knocking on that door” of posting a triple double every night and admitted that the offense should run through the All-Star forward. Anthony had what D’Antoni considered his best all-around game since joining the Knicks when he had 39 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in Monday’s overtime win against Orlando. “Yeah, I thought he got after it and rebounded well,” D’Antoni said Wednesday. “He [...]

Game 1 – Opening Day Live Blog

Written by Kevin Scobee | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals)

So this is the first ever attempt at KoK for a live game blog. There’s sure to be some hiccups along the way as we, well I, figure out what the heck it is I’m doing here in order to make this as reader friendly as possible. Be patient. We’re working on learning some software to use for this – software to be completely honest I have no idea how to you – but for now we’ll just roll with the normal blog style that I’ll update with quick thoughts or reactions from the game. Or, in case Gubicza says [...]

Will the Bears Trade Down (OR UP)???

Written by DeCon | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Bear Goggles (Bears)

Brad Biggs is one of my guys.  Yesterday, Biggsy wrote a piece that included the possibility of the Bears moving UP in the draft if there was a guy there they liked.  Biggsy doesn’t say whether or not he buys into that notion.  I would submit to the class, that moving UP would be a bad idea and I have my reasons which you can see after the jump… The Bears have A LOT of holes to fill, especially on the offensive line.  We have to upgrade that quickly and moving up to get a PROSPECT on the O-line who [...]

AL West Writer Predictions

Written by Brian Phair | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | BoSox Injection (Red Sox)

Beginning a brief series of season projections as opening day is upon us, I present you the AL West. Rick, Derek, and I spent time breaking down the division, looking at projected team finishing spots and the key players that will swing the division in their team’s favor. Later today, I will post the AL Central predictions and in honor of the Red Sox opener tomorrow, I will post the AL East predictions in the morning before the 1st pitch at the Ballpark in Arlington. The AL East predictions post will also include post-season projections, so you won’t want to miss [...]

Isaiah Thomas to the NBA

Written by Mark Knight | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Husky Haul (Washington)

Isaiah Thomas has decided to forego his senior season and declare for the NBA draft. At this time he hasn’t hired an agent and thus if he doesn’t like his projections or the NBA goes into a lockout before the draft, Thomas can be accepted back by NCAA rules. UPDATE: Thomas stated that regardless of where he is placed in projections he will still go to the NBA and not be back at UW. Thomas had initially said he was going to be back at UW for his senior season though this was said right after their short NCAA run. [...]

Ducks 4, Flames 2

Written by Susan s-k Lee | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Ducks Daily Blog (Ducks)

The Ducks Fans at the Saddledome were outnumbered maybe 100 to 1, but that didn’t quench their enthusiasm. You could hear them after every goal…I wonder if they had to have security escort them after the game? Jarome Iginla (of course!) scored first, but then the Ducks decided to take Kiprusoff apart again. We scored twice in the first (Ryan and Perry), once in the second (Lubo) and once more in the third (Perry). However, we committed a bunch of stereotypically dumbo penalties throughout the game: cross checking, roughing, slashing, tripping, hooking, and a partridge in a pear tree. The [...]

Stephane Da Costa Goes To Ottawa

Written by Gavin Humes | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rink Royalty (Kings)

This time of the year there are always discussions and debates about where the top undrafted college hockey players are going to end up. We’ve seen these discussions extensively, and for quite a while the Kings have been a major player in the discussions. While it’s likely that Lombardi reached out to Da Costa, the Kings are in a place where they just can’t compete with some of the other teams in respect to what they can offer. And frankly, that’s a good thing. Not a good thing in the classic sense, certainly signing a player like Da Costa would [...]

Cards Have Many Options on Table

Written by Scott Allen | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Raising Zona (Cardinals)

As we grow closer to the NFL Draft at the end of April, each and every day presents itself with new information as to the rumors on who the Arizona Cardinals are looking to select with their top draft pick at number five. Everyone from quarterback Blaine Gabbert to linebacker Von Miller to cornerback Patrick Peterson. I am however no expert and I would hardly qualify some “experts” as experts.  It’s all a guessing game and only the Cards know for sure (and I’m not even sure on that) as to what they plan on doing.  Personally, I’m still holding [...]

Orioles vs. Rays Opening Series – 3 Keys For O’s

Written by Rick Vattimo | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Birds Watcher (Orioles)

I know the Tampa Bay Rays won the AL East last year and many pick them as contenders for the playoffs in 2011, but I don’t buy it. I think the Rays are the perfect team for the Orioles to open up against and make a statement right out of the gate that they will be the up-and-coming young team in 2011, not the Rays.  The Rays’ David Price is a legitimate ace after going 19-6 with a 2.72 ERA last year, and he has a good young staff behind him. Third baseman Evan Longoria (.294/22/104) is growing into a [...]
