Darwin Barney Cracks The Opening Day Lineup

Written by Jordan Campbell | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Cubbies Crib (Cubs)

Coming into the season many felt that Darwin Barney was a player to watch on the Cubs’25 man roster, specifically, USA Today named Barney among their 100 players to keep an eye on for the 2011 season. In the report, USA Today suggested that Barney would be a pivotal piece off the the bench for the Cubs during the 2011 season. But after an impressive spring training, the 25-year old second baseman will have much greater duties than simply a piece off the bench. With only a day remaining before the Cubs season opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates, manager Mike [...]

Nat/Braves Update

Written by Ryan John Estorninos | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | District on Deck (Nats)

Through six and a third, why are the Nats down 2-0?  Because A. Hernandez is getting NO support on offense and have have stranded five runners.
Not a great start, thus far.

Draft Position Preview: Quarterback

Written by Adam Toren | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)

Few positions evoke as much interest as quarterback when it comes to the NFL Draft.  With the NFL becoming a pass first league, it is no wonder that QBs have become so important.  In fact, perhaps the easiest way to see which teams are still looking for a franchise QB is to look at the teams picking early in the first round.  All told you could make a case that about 1/3 of the NFL is still looking for their QB. Fortunately for the Chiefs, they have already found their guy.  Matt Cassel is not another Peyton Manning or Tom [...]

New Orleans Saints: DE Cameron Jordan To Visit Team

Written by Keith Null | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Who Dat Dish (Saints)

Saints head coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis have kept busy this off-season regardless of the NFL’s current lockout, bringing in a bevy of potential draft picks for meetings. Reports so far have the Saints meeting with Temple defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson and Okalahoma State running back Kendall Hunter among others. Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor and Baylor defensive tackle Phil Taylor have also been linked to the Saints. Adam Caplan from FoxSports.com has reported that the Saints will meet with California defensive end Cameron Jordan sometime before the draft, scheduled to kick-off in four weeks from April 28th through [...]

Season Opener Preview — New York Mets vs. Florida Marlins

Written by Ben Berkon | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rising Apple (Mets)

Baseball is finally here again for the New York Mets. The first series of the season will kick off in Florida against the scrappy Florida Marlins, who always find a way to win (or at the very least, play spoiler). It might not be as heated a series as, say, the Philadelphia Phillies, but with Josh Johnson, Ricky Nolasco, and Javier Vazquez in tow, the Marlins are serious players. GAME 1: 4/1/2011 (7:10 PM) -New York Mets @ Florida Marlins -Mike Pelfrey vs. Josh Johnson For better or worse, Mike Pelfrey is the Mets “ace” to start the season. Big [...]

Von Miller will Visit with 49ers

Written by Eric Melendez | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Niner Noise (49ers)

Texas A&M alum and Butkus Award winner Von Miller will be meeting with 49ers on April 13.  The nation’s top linebacker last year will visit with coaches and the front office while he is in the Bay Area.  Miller’s draft stock has risen significantly since the NFL Combine in March and he is expected to go in the top-ten in the draft.  With how highly touted Miller is right now it might be a long shot for him to be available when the 49ers select with the seventh pick.  The 49ers two biggest needs on defense are at defensive line [...]

Interview with Mile High Report Denver Broncos Expert Jeremy Bolander

Written by Sayre Bedinger | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | NFL Mocks, Other Blogs

As many of you know, I am also a contributor on the staff over at Mile High Report, one of the premiere NFL team blogs on the globe. The Denver Broncos-centric blog is operated by John “The Sports Guru” Bena, and his partner in crime is Jeremy Bolander. Jeremy is a fantastic story-teller, and in my opinion could be an NFL front office head or a scout in the league. He knows the game inside and out, and knows exactly what to look for in a prospect and how they can help a team. In other words–I would want him [...]

Kevin Gilbride Speaks!

Written by Andrew Ilnicki | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | G-MEN H.Q. (Giants)

Who does OC Kevin Gilbride think the Giants will draft first?  Now we know! via ESPN NY: Gilbride told a group of high school coaches at an awards ceremony last night that the Giants are looking at Florida’s center/guard Mike Pouncey Nothing we couldn’t have already guessed with the state of injuries with Shaun O’hara, Rich Seubert, and Adam Koets… plus the Giants haven’t drafted an OL since 1999.  They’re due! Plus Gilbride, like Tom Coughlin before him, also mentioned that Eli Manning should take more sacks instead of forcing throws into bad situations. “Where he’s under duress a couple [...]

Malhotra Has Second Eye Surgery; Prognosis Weeks Away

Written by salvatore | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Canuck Way (Canucks)

Sometimes there are guys in sports that you don’t tend to hear much about because they’re not the superstars of the league or they don’t make boneheaded plays that get their names in the papers. Manny Malhotra is one of those guys. He doesn’t have all the talent in the world but he’s a well-respected guy on and off the ice, with enough talent to earn himself a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract from the Canucks this past off-season. He has been a real team leader for the Canucks this year and his presence on and off the ice has been [...]

Torii Hunter’s Walk Up Song (Lil Wayne’s Dinnertime) – Ranks # 8 On Spinner Top 20 List

Written by Kalup Alexander | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Halo Hangout (Angels)

“They said I couldn’t play football I was too small. They say I couldn’t play basketball I wasn’t tall. They say I couldn’t play baseball at all. And now everyday of my life I ball. ” You hear it every time Torii Hunter steps to the plate at Angels Stadium. The lyrics are from a song called “Dinnertime” by Lil Wayne. For his  appropriate song choice Torii’s tune was ranked the  8th best walk-up song by Spinner.  The precarious song choices of  Mark Teahen ( Justin Beiber’s Baby) and Nick Johnson ( Miley’s Party In The USA) muck up an otherwise [...]

The Concussion Syndrome

Written by salvatore | March 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Canuck Way (Canucks)

Life’s been pretty good for the Canucks this season. How can it not be? They own the best record in the NHL, they’ve already clinched a playoff spot in the Western Conference and they are home to the first and third top point-getters in the entire league in Daniel and Henrik Sedin, respectively. Can’t get any better than that, right? Well, I hate to spoil the party but there is one thing that can put a damper on the Canucks quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup. Injuries. The Canucks have been hit pretty hard lately with the injury bug. First, there [...]
