Reflecting On The New Orleans Hornets Season

Written by James Grayson | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Swarm & Sting (Hornets)

It’s been a long season with many issues, events and drama. Personally there was always something that I was looking for to hang my hat on with this team. The Hornets were notorious for being so inconsistent. It never made sense just why they were so up and down, it really was more than frustrating to be so happy with the way they played, to so utterly disgusted. I think though, looking back, that there was one attribute that stood out more than others. Such an attribute was toughness. Whether it was being overwhelmingly outmatched, having less talent, less momentum, [...]

What the media thinks of the Redskins Draft

Written by PennSkinsFan | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (Redskins)

As we took a cruise through the web of what media analysts thought, we noted when the Washington Redskins were mentioned.  Here are some we found for your review.
ESPN.com, in their NFC East Review
The Redskins skipped the chance to draft a quarterback even though they are going to move Donovan McNabb and don’t have Rex Grossman signed to a contract. Here’s why: John Beck might be their quarterback in 2011 unless something opens up in free agency or a trade. That’s right, John Beck, the former second-round pick of the Miami Dolphins who is 0-4 as a starter [...]

Maybe May Will Be Better

Written by Scott Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Venom Strikes (DBacks)

Well, the best thing you can about April when it comes to the Arizona Diamondbacks is that it is over.  The Dbacks finished April 11-15.  Don’t expect May to turn out much better either. So let’s recap the series for the month: @ Colorado 1-1 @ Chicago 1-2 Cincinnati 2-1 St. Louis 1-2 San Francisco 1-2 @Cincinnati 2-1 @New York 0-3 Philadelphia 2-1 Chicago 1-2 At least they won three series, but could not pull off a sweep.  They did get swept though in the unlikeliest of places, New York.  Then again, with this team, you should always expect the [...]

Neil Ramirez’s Remarkable Rise

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Baseball

Rangers righthanded pitching prospect Neil Ramirez currently ranks third in the minor leagues in strikeouts with 35, which is impressive in itself.

Want a more impressive thing about that stat? How about that he’s got the most K’s of any minor leaguer in Triple-A? He’s even got more strikeouts than any Double-A pitchers.

Okay, maybe that’s slightly cheating on my part, since one of his starts came in A-ball. But still, Ramirez has undoubtedly shut down opponents this year.

As impressive as all of that is, the craziest and most unbelievable aspect of Ramirez’s season is that he made just one start between the Midwest League and the Pacific Coast League.

Fond Memory

On the eve of the Eastern Conference Finals, its fitting to showcase Dwyane Wade’s stellar game 4 performance against the Celtics last year.
Hopefully D Wade can channel some of this tomorrow.  I especially enjoy when Wade stares at his hand alm…

Dbacks are MLB’s Mr. Irrelevant

Written by Scott Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Venom Strikes (DBacks)

Mr. Irrelevant.  The last pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.  The guy that gets to say he was the last pick.  The guy that probably amounts to little in his NFL career.  At least little enough to make a difference.  That’s what the Arizona Diamondbacks have become.  The MLB equivalent of irrelevancy.  They play that way anyway. The Dbacks were losers again this evening to the Chicago Cubs 5-3.  It’s gotten to the point already where it doesn’t really matter if they win or lose.  The outcome is irrelevant to how the season will play out because we all know [...]

Chiefs GM Scott Pioli On 4th Round Draft Pick Jalil Brown

Written by Patrick Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)

One of the more unpopular draft picks the Kansas City Chiefs made on the third day of the 2011 NFL Draft was their selection of Colorado CB Jalil Brown. It is easy to understand why some folks would see CB as a position the Chiefs are pretty well set at. They already have Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr and Javier Arenas. Still, I believe you can never have enough good corners and while the Chiefs have three solid players, they do lack in the depth department. Depth was primary guess for why the Chiefs took Brown. I remember as soon as [...]

Spring Game Notes

Written by Mark Knight | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Husky Haul (Washington)

Guest Post by Sam Christensen, you can follow him at @Sarkisianity QB Battle: Keith Price started the game taking the 1st team offensive reps. He and Montana switched at halftime. Price looked a bit harried to start out, especially when having to overcome pressure. Under pressure he showed a propensity to forget his mechanics and force throws. As the game went on, he improved his comfort level and distanced himself from Montana in all facets. A significant amount of bootlegs were called for both QBs. Montana showed improved mobility, but had issues with any throws beyond 10 yards for the [...]

Rapid Reactions to Lions Selection of Johnny Culbreath

Written by Zac Snyder | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)

What is being said about the Lions’ selection of Johnny Culbreath nationally? Jon Dove of MockingTheDraft.com (via CBSsports.com): A small school player that will need to adjust to tougher competition. He is a project player. Grade: C- WalterFootball.com: A developmental tackle. Jeff Backus is entering his contract year, so the Lions will finally be forced to find a new left tackle next year. (Pick Grade: B) ESPN.com: He is an undersized OT who needs to add bulk to his frame and has raw tools. He is clearly a developmental project at this point. Nolan Nawrocki of Pro Football Weekly: Culbreath [...]

Big Inning Leads Royals to Second Win Over Twins

Written by Michael Engel | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals)

Sean O’Sullivan walked the leadoff batter, Denard Span.  Matt Treanor committed a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Tolbert.  Jason Kubel walked. Justin Morneau came up with the bases loaded and no outs. It felt like a typical Royals game against the Twins, where the Royals fall all over themselves to give the game away. Then Morneau grounded out into a 4-3-6-4 double play.  Span scored on the play, but the Royals got two outs.  An error by Mike Aviles allowed Tolbert to score. Amazingly, even with seven O’Sullivan walks, those were the only runs the Twins scored. [...]

How the Rotation Carried the Cards thru April

Written by Dan Kienzle | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)

Well, this Cardinals team sure continues to impress us all. After a relatively slow start, the team has really kicked things into gear during the latter half of the month of April.  Now that a full month of baseball has been played, it is safe to say that the Cardinals have responded to their off-season adversity quite well by putting together this current great start to the 2011 campaign. We must keep in mind, however, that though the Cardinals have had a great month so far, the only way to ensure that they are playing in October this year is for the [...]

13-15, Game Notes

Written by Griffin Cooper | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | SoDo Mojo (Mariners)

Wow, where to begin? The Mariners somehow beat the Red Sox today to secure a series win, despite seemingly being in a precarious situation every inning. Every time you started to think “okay, this is it, this is when they get the big hit”, there would be another improbable strikeout, or not-quite-deep-enough fly out. The breaks were consistently going to the Mariners, and that’s something we really haven’t seen all that much for awhile. No one’s going to claim it was easy, but the two runs that the M’s managed to scrape across would prove to be enough, and now [...]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select Two in Seventh

Written by Patrik Nohe | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Pewter Plank (Bucs)

The Buccaneers took two players in the 7th round, FIU CB Anthony Gaitor and Idaho TE Daniel Hardy. Both of whom look to provide depth or potentially practice squad bodies, but neither of whom do I see having a major impact, at least at first. Of the two, Gaitor is probably the better story coming out of Florida International without a ton of attention, Gaitor is a small corner with good quickness who will challenge for time inside in sub-packages and potentially on special teams. Gaitor isn’t exceptional at anything he does, he lacks great top-speed but has good quickness, [...]
