BLD Polls: What Grade do you Give Buffalo’s 2011 Draft?

Written by Brad Andrews | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)

Now that the Bills have made their nine selections, what grade would you give Buffalo for its 2011 draft? Personally, I’d give Buddy Nix and Bills front office a solid B for this effort. The Bills’ most glaring weakness – rush defense -was certainly addressed with the first three picks. The rest of the draft was full of smart, rugged guys  who can provide some depth. Nicely done. However, the fact that Buffalo didn’t add a single real pass-rusher or a tight end is a bit of head-scratcher.

Bills Make Bethel (TN) Lineman Michael Jasper Their Final 2011 Draft Selection

Written by Brad Andrews | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)

The Bills have made Michael Jasper, an ENORMOUS lineman from Bethel University (Tenn.) of the NAIA, their final selection in the 2011 Draft. If Jasper is anything, it is big – he is listed at 6-4 and an enormous 395 pounds. Jasper is listed as an offensive lineman in some places, but appears to have been drafted as a defensive lineman. Maybe he can fill the nose tackle role in the 3-4? Jasper’s a bit of a mystery man at the moment. If nothing else, it should be fun to follow Jasper at camp. If he’s athletic at all, he’s [...]

TE Richard Gordon and WR David Ausberry Round Out Raiders Draft

Written by Chris Shellcroft | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Just Blog Baby (Raiders)

To complete their 2011 draft class the Oakland Raiders selected Miami tight end Richard Gordon with the 181st pick then closed up shop by picking USC wide receiver David Ausberry in the 7th round. Gordon is an athletic tight end that was primarily used as a blocker. He’ll join fellow Hurricane DeMarcus Van Dyke in the East Bay but unlike his collegiate teammate Gordon will be hard pressed to make the 53-man roster. Ausberry, a Central Valley native, never lived up to the hype at USC where he arrived as a highly sought after recruit. He’s got a large frame [...]

USA

Written by rach | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Thraser Backer (Thrashers)

Just days after the Women’s TEAM USA beat Team Canada for the Gold Medal, the Men’s team USA, in the preliminary rounds, takes a 5-1 victory over Austria. Team USA< led by the Atlanta Thrasher’s own, Mark Stuart, held on and managed to score a huge win on opening day when, just one year ago, racked up an overtime loss against Germany. Finland , with the exact same final score, topped Denmark and the Czech Republic, with Ondrej Pavelec in goal, takes the lead against Latvia, 4-2. The Czech Republic’s roster, very impressive with Chicago Blackhawk’s Michael Frolick squeezing in [...]

Detroit Lions 2011 Draft Class

Written by Zac Snyder | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)

The 2011 NFL draft has come to its conclusion and the Lions have put together an interesting group. The early picks are guys that should have an immediate impact and will have roles that require little transition from the college game to the NFL, an important note considering the uncertainty surrounding the labor situation. The Lions finished off their draft by adding two players that are considered developmental guys with high upsides. Here is your 2011 Detroit Lions Draft Class: Round 1: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn Round 2: Titus Young, WR, Boise State Round 2: Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois Round [...]

Denver Broncos 2011 Draft Grade

Written by Kim Constantinesco | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Predominantly Orange (Broncos)

What a draft for the Denver Broncos. In John Elway and John Fox’s first draft with the orange and blue, it’s clear that operation Orange Crush is underway. Here’s a quick breakdown of who the Broncos selected before you grade this draft. The Broncos had a total of nine picks, and they loaded up defense with six players coming from that side of the ball. They picked up four linebackers, two safeties, two tight ends, and one tackle. LB Von Miller (Texas A&M): 1st round (2nd overall) – 6’3”, 246 lbs. In four years at A&M, had 178 total tackles [...]

Arizona Cardinals Draft on Hope and a Prayer

Written by Scott Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Raising Zona (Cardinals)

Talk about a draft we saw coming out of nowhere.  Well, as far as the Arizona Cardinals themselves are concerned, it all played out the way they wanted.  Of course that’s what they will say publicly.  Public perception though is another thing.  The Cards finished out the 2011 NFL Draft today and by the looks of things overall, the Cards are going to take things into the 2011 season on hope and prayer. After taking running back Ryan Williams from Virginia Tech and Robert Housler from Florida Atlantic yesterday, today they took all kinds of gambles. Sam Acho, DE from [...]

Morel Riding Bench for Second Straight Game

Written by Travis Miller | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Southside Showdown (White Sox)

White Sox 3b Brent Morel is on the outside looking in as the Sox and Orioles get underway in the second game of a four-game series. Morel is hitting just .203 in 20 games this season. Manager Ozzie Guillen had emphasized the defense over the lumber in Morel’s case, but with the team struggling to score runs more often than not so far this year, Mark Teahen has gotten the nod at the hot corner the last two games. Brent Lillibridge was left out of the starting lineup Friday despite having shined offensively and defensively all week. Gordon Beckham is [...]

Stretch Break: Brennan Boesch

Written by Chris Hannum | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Motor City Bengals (Tigers)

Is this actually the same batter that we saw last year, and that the Tigers developed all these years?  I for one, expected nothing whatsoever from Brennan Boesch this year – but I have been impressed (and downright amazed) by how he has performed this April. – True, he was hot early last year – and frankly helped to carry a .500 team to an ephemeral division lead – but he was hot in a different way.  The ‘book’ on Boesch was that he was a hacker with a swing full of holes – he would hit the ball a [...]

New Orleans Saints Select DE Greg Romeus With Pick 226

Written by Keith Null | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Who Dat Dish (Saints)

Pittsburgh defensive end Greg Romeus just became one of the Saints seventh round picks, and at first glance he looks to be another steal and solid value player for the team. The Saints are among the best teams in the NFL at uncovering talent in the later rounds of the draft, Marques Colston is the best ongoing evidence of this fact. Romeus looks to be the next Colston for the Saints after his draft stock slipped due to multiple injuries (ACL, Back) that wiped out nearly the entirety of his 2010 season. Once considered to be a potential first-round draft pick [...]

Vikings Make Stephen Burton Their Final Draft Pick of 2011

Written by Dan Zinski | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)

Here’s what I can tell you about the Vikings‘ final draft pick of 2011, West Texas A&M receiver Stephen Burton: He’s 6-1. He runs a 4.5 40. The scouts think he has good size but is not a deep threat and being a small college player suffers from a lack of experience against good talent. In other words, he’s a late-draft shot in the dark. At best, Burton projects as a possession receiver in the NFL. Think Greg Camarillo. But don’t we already have a Greg Camarillo? Receiver was a need for the Vikings but Burton was the only wide-out [...]
