The New England Patriots entered Day Three of the 2011 NFL Draft with four picks and managed to not trade them but use them on players. With the exception of one, all of the picks bring about the questions, “Who” or “Why.” The Patriots drafted an offensive lineman, a tight end, a linebacker not many have heard of, and a defensive back that not many have heard of. Neither BC LB Mark Herzlich, a cancer survivior, nor Pitt’s DE/OLB Greg Romeus were among the picks. Day Three was sort of a repeat of Day Two: you asked yourself, “Why did [...]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select Allen Bradford
Written by Patrik Nohe | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Pewter Plank (Bucs)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added depth at running back, perhaps picking up a short-yardage guy when they selected Allen Bradford in the 6th round. Bradford is a bruising back out of Southern Cal standing in a 5’11, 242 pounds. I have to admit, I needed to go back and do a little extra research on Bradford (and I know I’ll be looking up the sevens for the first time in all likelihood), but on paper he looks like an intriguing back even despite his lack of statistical production in college. Here’s the NFL.com scouting report: Bradford has linebacker size at [...]
The First 25 – Critical or Trivial?
Written by Ryan Wood | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals)
The 1985 Royals were 12-13 after 25 games. After Thursday night’s loss against the Indians, I’m happy to say that your 2011 Kansas City Royals were also 12-13. A lot has happened in the first 25 games of this season, making for a roller-coaster journey to get us to the end of April. The expectations coming into 2011 were so low that all anyone could talk about were a handfull of guys who were cut from the major league camp & sent to Omaha. Then the Royals lost on Opening Day. The “see, I told you so” crowd reared its [...]

2011 NFL Draft: Chiefs Make Splash With Round 7 Pick Of Shane Bannon
Written by Patrick Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)
The Kansas City Chiefs have made some surprising and shrewd picks in the 2011 NFL Draft but perhaps their selection of Yale FB shane Bannon was the most surprising and shrewd of them all. Bannon was totally unknown by NFL teams until just a few weeks ago. At 6’2, 265, Bannon was an athletic FB that nobody knew about until he tagged along for a workout in front of an agent with a Yale teammate. From Adam Caplan of Fox Sports: Bannon (6-2, 265) lined up mostly offset in Yale’s offense, but when he did line up as a true [...]
Vikings Draft DE D’Aundre Reed In Seventh Round
Written by Dan Zinski | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)
The Vikings have added another defensive lineman, drafting Arizona’s D’Aundre Reed with their first pick in the seventh round. The story on Reed is an intriguing one. He’s considered a talented athlete, but in Arizona he was buried in the rotation behind Brooks Reed and Ricky Elmore, both of whom were also drafted this year. The thinking here is that Reed could be a diamond in the rough, a talent who remained untapped simply because of who was ahead of him on his college roster. Sort of like Brad Johnson, only at the defensive end position. Obviously, in the seventh [...]
Recap Of The Entire Atlanta Hawks/Orlando Magic Playoff Series
Written by William Sevidal | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Soaring Down South (Hawks)
Photo by Ryan Hurst of @NBA_Photos What a series it was. What a series it was. Can’t say it any better than that. If you’re not a Hawks fan, it probably wasn’t the most watchable or enjoyable playoff series in the first round, but if you are a Hawks fan, this series was great. I’d go out and say that this is the best Atlanta Hawks playoff series win in the “Josh Smith” era. Granted, the Hawks have only won 3 playoff series, but this is easily the best one. It had everything a Hawks fan wanted in a [...]
Bills Select Richmond CB Justin Rogers in 7th Round
Written by Brad Andrews | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)
Many Bills fans complain that Buffalo takes way too many defensive backs each year in the draft…this won’t help. Buffalo has selected Richmond cornerback Justin Rogers in the 7th round of the 2011 edition of the draft with the 206th overall pick. Rogers has plenty of positives for a 7th-round selection. His cover skills are decent enough for this stage in the draft, and he has all the intelligence and football smarts one could hope for. His speed is also right where you would want for a corner. Rogers could also contribute on special teams right away. The downside to Rogers [...]
Quoting Jerrell Powe
Written by Patrick Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)
The Kansas City Chiefs have a new nose tackle in Ole Miss standout Jerrell Powe. Prior to the draft, FanSided’s NFL Draft site NFL Mocks had an opportunity to speak with Powe. Here is some of what he had to say: Does he model his game after anyone specifically? “I think Vince Wilfork. I’m not as big as him, but I try to simulate him and Casey Hampton as far as controlling the line.” Powe also told me that his parents have been the biggest influence in his life and his career, and that they have helped him make right [...]
Virgil Green Goes To Broncos In 7th Round
Written by Kim Constantinesco | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Predominantly Orange (Broncos)
The Broncos went with another tight end for their first pick in the 7th round of the draft. The Broncos selected 6-foot-3, 249 lb. Virgil Green from Nevada. Green is the second tight end that the Broncos have chosen in this draft. The team picked Julius Thomas in the 4th round after trading their 5th and 6th round picks. Green improved consistently during the course of his college career. He had 35 receptions for 515 yards and 5 touchdowns during his senior season. Not only is Green a great receiving tight end, but he can block as well. Some projected him to go [...]
Detroit Lions Select Johnny Culbreath with the 209th Pick in 2011 NFL Draft
Written by Zac Snyder | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)
The Lions seventh round pick has been announced: Who: Johnny Culbreath What: Offensive Tackle Where: South Carolina State When: Round 7, Pick 6 (209 overall) Why: Anyone that read a few mock drafts knows that the Lions were strong candidates to add an offensive tackle in this draft. Nick Fairley proved to be the better value in the first round but they finally pulled the trigger in the seventh round. Assuming Gosder Cherilus will return healthy, the Lions are a couple years from having a tremendous need at tackle but this pick is a solid chance to be proactive rather [...]
2011 NFL Draft: Chiefs Grab Ole Miss NT Jerrell Powe In Round 6
Written by Patrick Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)
The Kansas City Chiefs have finally drafted a nose tackle in Ole Miss defensive lineman Jerrell Powe. Whether or not Powe can be the long term starter remains to be seen but at least the Chiefs are finally addressing the position in the draft. We talked a little bit about Powe a week ago. AA Staff Writer Merlin had a nice breakdown on Powe when he talked about NT prospects on Draft Thursday: Jerrell Powe Mississippi 6′ 2” 335 lbs Powe is close to what the Chiefs look for. Like Taylor, he has a good build for a nose tackle. [...]
