Vikings Take Ross Homan In 6th Round of NFL Draft

Written by thevikingpig | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)

Unless the Vikings trade back into the 6th round their 4 picks have ran their creative course. At 200th overall (one pick after the infamous Tom Brady pick… I mean Joe Webb pick) the Vikings have taken linebacker Ross Homan of Ohio State. Homan is a high character guy who was named captain of the Buckeyes, lead the team in tackles and was voted onto the All-Big Ten team by coaches. Reading the scouting reports on Homan basically state he’s a lunchbox type of player who always works hard, but will never blow you away athletically. He was also projected [...]

Broncos Go Inside Linebacker With 189th Pick

Written by Kim Constantinesco | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Predominantly Orange (Broncos)

The Broncos go defense again. In the 6th round, the team went with inside linebacker Mike Mohamed from California with the 189th overall pick. Mohamed (6’3”, 239 lbs.) was a three-year starter for the Golden Bears, and led the team in tackles his junior year. In that year, he had 105 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 3 interceptions. During his senior year, Mohamed had 91 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception. Mohamed seems like a well rounded linebacker and should give the Broncos some depth at the position. Make sure to follow Predominantly Orange on Facebook.

Halladay Throws Another Complete Game

Written by Tony DiStefano | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | That Balls Outta Here (Phillies)

Placido Polanco set a new career high in hits (not to mention a Phillies record for April) and RBI for a month. The former was accomplished by his sixth inning single and the latter was achieved with his game winning SAC fly scoring Wilson Valdez making the score 2-1.

What To Take Away From the Spring Game

Written by brook194 | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Spartan Avenue (Mich. St.)

I was in attendance at the Michigan State Green vs White football game today and a middle aged woman behind me asked a question to her husband: “Is this practice or a real game?” Courtesy of NYDailyNews I regret not turning around at that point and saying “Neither… THIS IS SPRING FOOTBALL” Spring football is somewhere in between a real game and practice. Its an opportunity for these kids to go out in full pads in front of the media personnel (Did I really just refer to myself as “media personnel”?) and in front of the fans and strut their stuff. This is [...]

Todd McShay Loves Johnny White

Written by Brad Andrews | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)

At least one NFL Draft expert loves the Bills’ fifth-round pick. ESPN’s Todd McShay considers Johnny White among the biggest sleepers in the entire 2011 draft class. Read on after the jump to see his thoughts: “One of the most underrated players regardless of position in this year’s draft is Johnny White from North Carolina,” said McShay. ”He played different positions early in his career and was a defensive back and moved him to a wide receiver role and they tinkered with him. He’s a little over 5’10” and a little over 200 pounds. Your average NFL size for a back. [...]

Alex White Will Look to Impress

Written by Steve Kubitza | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Wahoo's on First (Indians)

Tonight’s game will feature one of the highest rated propsects in the Indians farm system, in Alex White. He will no longer be a prospect after tonight’s game, and hopefully will live up to the hype. He was taken as the Indians first pick in the ’09 draft out of North Carolina. His callup is due to the injury of Carlos Carrasco who is now on the DL. White was chosen over David Huff, who many thought would be the one called up for the start. Huff had his chance in Cleveland, and proved to be inconsistent. He finished 2009 with [...]

Vikings Take Brandon Fusco In 6th Round of NFL Draft

Written by thevikingpig | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)

Looks like John Sullivan may be a backup center soon. In the 6th round, 172nd overall the Vikings have grabbed Slippery Rock’s Brandon Fusco. His measurements come in at 6’4” and 306 pounds. The Vikings were known to have coveted Fusco over the past couple of months being one of several teams who traveled down to Slippery Rock to visit the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year, team captain and three-time all-conference selection. Fusco was invited to the combine, played in the Senior Bowl and had a mid-round grade by most draft pundits. I also mocked Fusco to [...]

Carlos Santana Officially Breaks out of Slump

Written by Steve Kubitza | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Wahoo's on First (Indians)

As all Indians fans know, Carlos Santana gave the Indians their most exciting win of the season on Friday night. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, he hit a walk-off grand slam to beat the Tigers. I know that it is only one hit, but it is the best possible hit any player could ever have. This should give Santana the confidence he needs to get back to his potential level of play. He is currently hitting .195 on the year, but he has 16 RBI. Looking at his stats reveals that Santana is much better [...]

Baltimore Ravens Select Anthony Allen With The 225th Pick

Written by Riley B | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Ebony Bird (Ravens)

The Baltimore Ravens have made their eighth selection of the 2011 NFL draft: Anthony Allen RB Georgia Tech Round 7, Pick  22 (225th Overall)(From Eagles) Allen is a big, power back that will run over tacklers and move the chains. He will not break any huge plays but should be a nice compliment to Ray Rice. He’s a tough player that could be a short yardage back, but doesn’t have a lot of agility to use in space.

Bills Select Mississippi St. LB Chris White in 6th Round

Written by Brad Andrews | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)

The Bills continued to add reinforcements to their league-worst run defense in the 2011 NFL Draft by selecting Mississippi State inside linebacker Chris White with the 169th pick. White’s a hitter. No doubt about that. He racked up 110 tackles (including 15.5 for loss) with six sacks in his senior season at MSU. He certainly fits the mold of the type of player Buddy Nix has picked in this draft: rugged, hard-working guys who were very productive against high-level competition in college. As with any player drafted this late, White has some limitations. He’s fairly fast in a straight line [...]

Broncos Pick Up Julius Thomas In 4th Round

Written by Kim Constantinesco | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Predominantly Orange (Broncos)

The Denver Broncos made a big move in the 4th round of the draft to acquire tight end Julius Thomas. The team selected Thomas 129th overall and gave up their 5th (141) and 6th (186) round picks, and also got a 7th round pick (204) from the Green Bay Packers. Julius Thomas is a big tight end (6’5”, 246 lbs.) that comes out of Portland State, but he’s limited in his football experience. Thomas played basketball before his senior year at Portland State. In 2010, he caught 29 passes for 453 yards and 2 touchdowns. The need for a tight end was evident [...]

Hockey Fashion Trends…

Written by Mary O'Malley | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Fire that Cannon (Blue Jackets)

It’s Saturday.  Are you still punch-drunk from the Easter-Playoff-Royal Wedding nirvana?  We’ve had plenty of wedding fashion news.  How about a Hockey Fashion Update?  Can you imagine Princess Eugenie And Princess Beatrice going nuts at an NHL playoff game? I mean, if they wear this kind of crap at the Wedding of the Century, no telling what they’d do for spirit gear… Which brings us to this fellow.   So, A for effort and originality, but F for everything else.  Did he think that through?  One wrong move and we’re gonna know more about this fellow than we ever imagined.  One hasty jump or [...]
