The University of South Florida’s Mistral Raymond is now a Vikings with our second pick in the 6th round goes towards adding more depth in the secondary. Being a Syracuse graduate, this is someone I actually watched a few times in the past year. I can tell you he’s a hard hitter that has long arms and always seems to be around the action. Just wonder if Raymond could have been had in the 7th round, as he did have a late round or undrafted free agent grade. Look for Raymond to make the roster with Madieu Williams all but [...]

Vikings Take DeMarcus Love In 6th Round of NFL Draft
Written by thevikingpig | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)
Called it from this morning… Well sort of. DeMarcus Love of Arkansas is a late round offensive lineman we felt the Vikings should draft and the deed has been done. He has ideal size for an NFL Guard at 6’4” and 315 pounds. Going into the season Love was on a number of Preseason All-American teams, but a mediocre senior season and a bad Senior Bowl sent his stock downward. He does have experience however playing against some quality defensive linemen in the SEC. And of course, anyone protecting Ryan Mallett’s pokey behind and windmill delivery should know that a [...]
Rapid Reactions to Lions Selection of Doug Hogue
Written by Zac Snyder | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)
There will be a lot of happy fans now that the Lions have addressed their need at outside linebacker. How was the pick viewed nationally? WalterFootball.com: I thought the Lions would address the linebacker position earlier than this. Doug Hogue fills a major need, but I feel like there were better linebackers available. (Pick Grade: C) Nolan Nawrocki of Pro Football Weekly: A former running back, Hogue has the run-and-hit skills the Lions desire in their linebackers and possesses a comparable set of traits to DeAndre Levy. With jobs available at outside linebacker in Detroit, Hogue’s athletic ability should allow [...]
More on Redskins 2nd round pick Jarvis Jenkins
Written by Spence | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (Redskins)
Jarvis Jenkins, selected in the second round [41st pick overall] by the Washington Redskins in the 2011 NFL Draft, is a defensive tackle out of Clemson.
Former NFL scout Russ Lande, who is now heading football scouting analyst for The Sporting News, had Jenkins rated as the second best nose tackle in the draft, behind Phil Taylor, who was taken in the first round by the Cleveland Browns. Via Rich Campbell, here is Lande’s scouting report on Jenkins:
Jenkins is a big, thick bodied DT who jumped off film when I initially evaluated him in 2009 and then continued impressing with [...]

However, his ability in tackling and run support has been questioned. Pernell McPhee Defensive End Mississippi State Round 5, Pick 34 (165th Overall)(Compensatory Selection) McPhee is a bigger end who should contribute in the run stopping game. Doesn’t have great speed getting off the snap and lacks consistency.

A quick recap of the players selected by the Jaguars in 2011: 1st Round, pick 10: QB Blaine Gabbert Blaine Gabbert’s Draft Study Jaguars trade 16th and 49th picks to move up to pick number 10 and select Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert is now the heir apparent to incumbent QB David Garrard. All signs point to Gabbert sitting on the bench for his first season, a la Carson Palmer (Bengals). Gabbert was the consensus #2 QB by most media, behind [...]
The Difference in the Browns New Regime is Palbable

Under Eric Man(not so)Genius the Cleveland Browns prefered subtance to flash. The new direction of the Browns, at least in this draft, is talent talent talent. With their draft the Browns have added some serious talent, the thing is they’ve also added a litany of players with character concerns. Their first three picks: Phiil Taylor, Jabaal Sheard, and Greg Little were not considered angels coming into the draft, players that Mangini would never allowed to be added, but they were in this draft. Are they talented? For Sure. Are they good picks? That remains to be seen. But this much [...]
Vikings Draft Pick Christian Ballard Ducks Questions About Failed Drug Test
Written by Dan Zinski | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)
Christian Ballard reportedly dropped to the fourth round because of a failed drug test at the combine. This was bad news for Ballard, who had the talent to project out as a 2nd-rounder, but potentially good news for the Vikings who were able to snap up the former Iowa DT in a high-value position. Soon after being selected Ballard faced the media, and was immediately hit with questions about the drug test. Not surprisingly, the player had very little to say on the subject. When asked if the failed test was indeed to blame for his slide down the draft [...]

Mills: Move Wallace Up… NOW!
Written by Trevor Harris | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Climbing Tal's Hill (Astros)
Normally, I would not challenge the intricacies of the managerial position in baseball due to my lack of experience in the area, but why is Brad Mills insistent on keeping Carlos Lee at the four spot in the lineup? I understand that he is a prototypical clean up hitter when playing at his normal level, but we have yet to see Lee play at his usual level this season and for a majority of last season. Even more frustrating is that the Astros have other options; let’s take a look: Hunter Pence is playing at a level that could be [...]
Orlando Magic News & Notes

Sam Gardner of Fox Sports Florida on Stan Van Gundy: It wasn’t his fault his team shot 40.9 percent for the series, 5.2 percent worse than its season average. Just like it wasn’t his fault the Magic made only 26.2 percent of their 3-pointers after making 36.6 percent during the first 82 games. Van Gundy couldn’t do anything about the fact that Jason Richardson (17 of 51), Hedo Turkoglu (20 of 68), Ryan Anderson (8 of 30), J.J. Redick (15 of 42, 1 of 15 on 3′s) and Jameer Nelson (31 of 81) all went ice cold at the same [...]
Detroit Lions Select Doug Hogue with the 157th Pick in the 2011 NFL Draft
Written by Zac Snyder | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)
The Lions have just used a fifth round pick to address one of their biggest needs: Who: Doug Hogue What: Outside Linebacker Where: Syracuse When: Round 5, Pick 26 (157 overall) Why: A case can be made that outside linebacker was the Lions’ greatest area of need heading into the draft. Hogue is a former running back so he is athletic but lacks some experience. This looks to a be a good pick that gives the coaching staff some raw materials to work with. Like what you see?
