Until now Oakland’s draft has been all about addressing needs. While I was well aware that Denarius Moore was on Al’s draft board, I didn’t honestly think they would take him. Low and behold, with the 148th pick in the draft, the Raiders grabbed the speedy wide receiver from Tennessee. This marks the 4th receiver the Raiders have drafted in the last three years. Moore, naturally, has good speed and fits the mold of your classic deep threat. The question is just how does he fit in? Moore is very raw and will find some stiff competition just to make [...]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select Ahmad Black
Written by Patrik Nohe | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Pewter Plank (Bucs)
Gator fans rejoice, the Bucs have just grabbed safety Ahmad Black in the fifth round of 2011 NFL Draft. The Bucs spent the 151st pick on the young safety from UF and he looks to come in and contribute on special teams immediately as he develops and eventually challenges for time at safety. I have no idea what, if anything, this says about Tanard Jackson’s future with the Bucs but Black is an interesting prospect. The knock on Black is and has always been that he’s too small and slow. He stands at just 5’9 and runs a 4.7. But [...]
Raiders Continue to Add Speed and Upside
Written by Jesse Bartolis | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | NFL Mocks, Other Blogs
Well, one thing you can say about the Raiders is they certainley have athletic ability. To me the Raiders biggest problem has not been Al Davis’ ability to add talented players, the problem has come from his inability to hire and keep quality coaches in the N.F.L. as of late as well as his ability to find a good quarterback. That’s really the Raiders biggest problems, of course now and then they’ll get fleeced by the Patriots when they made trades with them, but all in all the Raiders have good talent and today the Raiders have added a few [...]
Pablo Sandoval To Miss 4-6 Weeks – Maybe More
Written by Ezekiel Escobar | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Frisco Fastball (Giants)
Apparently, the Giants used up all of their mojo… Pablo Sandoval, one of about, oh, two Giants to have any offensive success this year has a fractured hamate bone in his hand which will require surgery on Monday. In general, it’s about a three week to month time frame before the player can even begin rehab work and that’s assuming all goes well and there isn’t any scar tissue issues to deal with. Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Dominic Brown sustained a similar injury on March 5th and only returned to action in the past week. It’s expected to linger throughout the [...]
Kreider Helps USA to 5-1 Win Over Austria
Written by Adam Herman | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Blue Line Station (Rangers)
The USA faced Austria today in the preliminary round of the World Championships and defeated Austria 5-1. Chris Kreider opened the scoring with an end-to-end goal and was named player of the game. Kreider sped down the entire right side of the ice, deked out a defender, and buried the puck in the net. It’s that kind of play, which is not uncommon for Kreider, that makes Rangers fans so excited. He has the potential to be one of the most exciting forwards the Rangers have had since Alex Kovalev. Derek Stepan, who centered USA’s first line, notched two assists, [...]
Raiders Feel the Need for Speed in Round 4
Written by Chris Shellcroft | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Just Blog Baby (Raiders)
So far there have been no real surprises in Oakland’s approach to the 2011 draft. We knew they needed to address the needs on the offensive line and in the secondary. Five picks in and four have been used on either DBs or offensive linemen. The lone departure from these two areas of need occurred in the 4th round as the Raiders picked Eastern Washington running back Taiwan Jones with the 125th pick. There has been a lot of buzz about Jones around Raider Nation in recent weeks. Naturally he gained the attention of Al Davis by going sub 4.3 [...]
Vikings Take Brandon Burton In 5th Round of NFL Draft
Written by thevikingpig | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)
The Vikings have a history of sprinting to the podium when they really want someone. They did it for Adrian Peterson, they did it for Percy Harvin and they turned their draft card in quicker than two wags of kangaroo tail to draft Utah cornerback Brandon Burton. Burton had a mid-round grade by draft experts. He has good size at 6’1” and 185 lbs looking the part of a starting cornerback. He also did an excellent job against the top wide receivers in The Pacific-10. The knocks on him are that he’s raw and can occasionally be lackadaisical on the [...]
2011 NFL Draft: Kansas City Chiefs Select Oregon DE Gabe Miller In Round 5
Written by Patrick Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)
The Kansas City Chiefs had two picks to make use of in the 5th round of the 2011 NFL Draft and they used their second pick to select Oregon DE Gabe Miller. The pick sent a shock wave through the Arrowhead Addict draft chat. There were many WTF type of responses. Chiefs fans apparently do not like seeing “DE” come up on the draft list. But Miller may not play DE for the Chiefs. Here is what Wes Bunting had to say about Miller: An undersized defensive end prospect who displays decent thickness through his lower half and loves to [...]

NFL Draft 2011: Dallas Cowboys Select CB Josh Thomas In Round 5
Written by Josh Sanchez | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Landry Hat (Cowboys)
With the 143rd overall pick, the Dallas Cowboys selected Buffalo cornerback Josh Thomas in the fifth round of the draft. Smith is a very talented player with the potential to develop into a solid starter in the NFL. It took the Cowboys long enough, but they finally added help along the defensive unit. Here is what NFL.com has to say about Thomas: Thomas has the upside to potentially turn into a starting corner with some improved awareness and overall refinement to his game. At this stage, has the size, coverage skills, and hands to provide quality depth as a backup. [...]
Brewer and Doss Off the Board
Written by iufan24 | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Hoosier State of Mind (Indiana)
The wait is finally over for both James Brewer and Tandon Doss as they were selected by the Giants and Ravens respectively, in the fourth round. I am a bit surprised that Tandon fell that far but players who came into the draft with any questions marks in terms of there health definitely saw a drop (ask Mr. Bowers). Let’s take a look at the situation that each player will be entering in next season. James Brewer- 117th overall to the Giants: I think Brewer and the Giants will be a good fit. The Giants offensive line is aging a [...]
Patriots Select OL Marcus Cannon 138th Overall
Written by jamie | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Musket Fire (New England Patriots)
With their first pick of the fifth round, the New England Patriots selected TCU offensive lineman Marcus Cannon. Cannon was considered to be a second-round pick until he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He is expected to make a full recovery, but the medical issues were obviously a concern with teams. Getting Cannon here is a tremendous value, as their were even rumblings of the Chicago Bears taking Cannon at the end of the first round until his diagnosis. Cannon played tackle in college but his size (6’5″, 358 lbs) makes him flexible enough to move inside and play guard, [...]

2011 NFL Draft: Kansas City Chiefs Draft Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi In Round 5
Written by Patrick Allen | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs)
The Brodie Croyle era appears to mercifully be coming to an end as the Kansas City Chiefs have drafted QB Ricky Stanzi out of Iowa. The Chiefs realized how poor their QB depth was when Matt Cassel was suddenly taken out of action by an emergency appendectomy. Backup Brodie Croyle was forced to start in Cassel’s stead and was absolutely terrible in a loss to the San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs spent a lot of time this offseason looking at QB options so it comes as no surprise that Stanzi is the pick here. NFL Draft Scout lists Stanzi as [...]
Bills Pick North Carolina RB Johnny White in 5th Round
Written by Brad Andrews | April 30, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)
Well, I didn’t see that coming. Buffalo surprisingly went running back early in the fifth round, taking North Carolina’s Johnny White with the 133rd overall pick. It’s pretty clear the Bills are going with the “best player available” approach, as running back certainly wasn’t a big need with Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller on the board. There’s a good chance that White was the top ranked player on the Bills’ board at the time of the pick, as White was pretty high on a lot of board. Scouts Inc. had White ranked as their #6 RB and 85th-ranked player overall, [...]
