NHL Returns to Winnipeg

Written by Bill Mayer | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Pens Labyrinth (Penguins)

It’s official – the Atlanta Thrashers are moving to Winnipeg. The people of Manitoba are happy campers today, while the people of Atlanta…well, I doubt the vast majority of them care all that much. The bottom line here is that the NHL failed mise…

May Ends Same as it Began, Still in Lockout Mode

Written by Scott Allen | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Raising Zona (Cardinals)

The Arizona Cardinals are no closer to the playing field. Players and owners aren’t meeting and the longer this NFL lockout drags, it appears more and more likely the 2011 season is in major jeopardy.  I would have thought the players might show an …

Around the NL Central

Written by Alex Brown | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)

With the first two months of the 2011 season in the books, the NL Central has been one of the more interesting divisions in baseball. There is still a long way to go, but things haven’t necessarily gone the way many people predicted. St. Louis has opened up the second largest division lead in MLB (2.5 games), and Cincinnati, the reigning division champ, sits in the middle of the pack with an even .500 record (28-28). Despite being baseball’s only six team division, the NL Central is one of three divisions with two or fewer teams above the .500 mark. [...]

Searching for a Coach – Part 2

Written by bozak911 | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Gone Puck Wild (Wild)

The roster for the Minnesota Wild is going to be nearly identical to last season.  While we were missing Bouchard, Latendresse, and many others for a significant amount of the season, the Wild were still amazingly inconsistent.  If the same players were on the ice in December, that were on the ice in March, where did the inconsistency come from? Inconsistency starts from the top.  It comes from motivation (or lack thereof) which originates at the top.  It also comes with having a belief in the ideology of the coach.  If the coach is forcing a system upon a roster [...]

McCoy, Maclin Snubbed Once Again

Written by Keith Heumiller | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Inside the Iggles (Eagles)

As if it weren’t enough to leave Shady McCoy and Jeremy Maclin out of the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2011 list, ESPN has apparently decided to blatantly ignore them as well. The sports media giant released an offensive power ranking earlier today (because, let’s face it, there’s not a whole lot else to talk about right now), based on the votes of all eight of its divisional bloggers, and not surprisingly both of the young Eagles guns found themselves shut out once again. I say not surprisingly, of course, because the final twenty-person list is a nauseating [...]

Donatas Montiejunas A Good Choice

Written by Kyle Bright | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Sixer Sense (76ers)

Donatas Montiejunas releases from downtown. Photo Credit: fiba.com What if you are a deep team that doesn’t need another good player, but you need a great player? You are already deep, have a great bench, and have many pretty good players, how do you get that great player. You’re picking in the middle of the first round, probably too low to nab a star. You are capped out because these good players have some pretty big contracts. So where do you turn? It turns out that that answer might be staring you right in the face, and you may not [...]
