Harden Working His Way Back?
Written by Joseph Lopez | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)
Working Hard: Harden could throw off a mound as early as Tuesday reports the SF Chronicle… According to a recent post from Susan Slusser of the SF Chronicle, A’s right-handed pitcher Rich Harden, could be back on a mound as early as Tuesday. The 29-year old flamethrower signed a one-year deal with Oakland this past winter for $1.5 million, but has been sidelined all season with a strained muscle in his right arm. The A’s, who made a flurry of moves this offseason to address the team’s lack of depth, brought Harden back to the bay area in the hopes [...]
New York Jets Might Bring Back Right Tackle Damien Woody
Written by Bob Cunningham | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | NFL Spin Zone (NFL)
The lockout has likely given Woody his job back. After being cut back in February, just weeks before the lockout officially began, it looked like Damien Woody’s career with the New York Jets was over. 2010 second-round pick Vladimir Ducasse was already being penciled in as the starter to replace Woody on the right side despite the fact that Ducasse struggled to pick up the playbook during his rookie season and saw only limited time. However, it’s now looking like the lockout could have Woody back in Jets green for at least one more season, and Ducasse waiting another year [...]

Reliving History: NY Rangers vs. Vancouver Canucks 1994 Stanley Cup Finals Game 1
Written by Jeffrey Seaver | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Blue Line Station (Rangers)
With the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1994, it makes sense for us to look back on what happened in that epic series that of course brought the Stanley Cup to New York. Game 1 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals between the New York Rangers and the Vancouver Canucks was played Tuesday, May 31, 1994 at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers took the lead 2-1 late in the 3rd period following a Brian Leetch goal. But Vancouver’s Martin Gélinas scored the tying goal with a minute remaining in the period sending the game [...]

Daric Barton’s Struggles Continue
Written by Joseph Lopez | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)
Remember when the A’s began dismantling their highly acclaimed “Big Three,” a rotation that included the likes of Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, and Barry Zito? If you do, then you’ll also remember that the trade the took Mulder away from the confines of the Coliseum and into St. Louis, was the one that brought Daric Barton and Dan Haren to Oakland. The deal, much better than the one that sent Hudson to Atlanta, definitely had its perks for the A’s. Haren turned out to be a very solid starter during his time in Oakland, and Barton had a lot of [...]

Who’s The Closer?
Written by Joseph Lopez | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)
With Andrew Bailey back with the team, the A’s have to decide whether or not to have Bailey jump into the closer’s role. The A’s have managed pretty well without Bailey for the first two months, with Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes closing out games, but Bailey is Oakland’s All-Star closer. The young two-time AL All-Star closer, according to SF Chronicle writer, Susan Slusser, will likely get his job rather quickly so long as he puts together a few good outings first. The A’s reinstated Bailey, who had been sidelined since March, and sent Bobby Cramer back down to Triple-A [...]
