Who’s Hot and Who’s Not

Written by Fred Owens | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Tomahawk Talk (Braves)

The Braves rank 15th in National League and 29th overall with 29 runs scored in the past 12 days. We’ve scored three runs or more just four times in that time and had to have extra innings to do that. So hot is relative. … [visit site to read m…

Tigers Trot Out Sunday Lineup Tonight

Written by John Parent | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Motor City Bengals (Tigers)

The Tiger take on Twins left hander Brian Duensing tonight, but the lineup sure doesn’t look like one that should strike fear into his heart. Until you look a little closer anyway. Duensing comes into the game tonight with a 2-5 record and 4.83 ERA in 10 games (nine starts), but Tigers manager Jim Leyland has stacked the deck with right handed hitters. The Tigers are 12-4 against southpaw starters this year and Leyland is hoping to take advantage of Duensing’s splits. For his career, right handed batters have hit him at a .281 clip (.770 OPS) while lefties have been held [...]

Series Six Pack: Words from Across the Aisle

Written by Ben Berkon | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rising Apple (Mets)

The New York Mets are facing the Pittsburgh Pirates for the first time this season, but the Pirates are a different team now than they were in 2010. With Pedro Alvarez, Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, and Jose Tabata all a year older (and thus a year mo…

Game 2 Preview: Pirates at Mets, 7:10 PM

Written by Ben Berkon | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rising Apple (Mets)

STARTING PITCHERS: R.A. Dickey (2-5, 4.50 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 1.67 K/BB): It surely seemed that after his nasty fall while covering first base on a grounder, that Dickey would be out for a long period of time. However, the resilient knuckleballer didn’t even need additional time-off between his starts. As nice as it is to know Dickey will be healthy, the pitcher has been a tremendous let-down in 2011 (aside from his May 20 start against the Yankees). Fans only wish his knack for bouncing back from injury could somehow result in better production on the mound. (Career vs. Pirates: [...]

Rays Muddling through May

Written by Ben Ice | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rays Colored Glasses (Rays)

After last night’s thrashing at the hands of the Texas Rangers, Tampa’s May record stands at 13-12, and the Rays are 3-7 in their last ten games. After starting out the month 8-3, including a sweep of the Orioles and a series win against the Cleveland Indians, the Rays have managed only five more wins, and the schedule isn’t any easier. One the home series versus the Rangers concludes tomorrow night the Rays head out for an 11 game road trip. They’ll play four at Safeco against the Mariners then swing down to Los Angeles for three games against the [...]

Hanley’s back a big problem

Written by Michael Jong | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Marlin Maniac (Marlins)

Right now, the Marlins are remaining optimistic, but the early signs just aren’t very good regarding Hanley Ramirez and his lower back stiffness. “I just got scared. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t rotate,” [Ramirez] said Monday before taking treatment. “I was hoping I could play today, but I can’t. I’ve just got to go day to day. I’m feeling it in my legs, down the left side. A tingle in my leg. That’s not a good sign. That’s what we’re worried about right now, the feeling in my legs. Hopefully it’ll be better in a couple of days.” The combination [...]

Buffalo Bills versus the AFC East: RBs

Written by Josh Baker | May 31, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)

The RB position is critical to every offense in the NFL.  Especially because we see about 3 in every game for each team.  Gone are the days where Squirmin’ Thurman would play from the first snap to the V-Formation.  We’ve seen the advent of Wildcat offenses, running by committee, 3rd down backs, throwing out of the backfield, Goal Line specialists?  The prototype? There is no prototype any more! Speedsters like Dexter McCluster can double as WR, splitting out wide to gash you wide open and mess your defense way up. Giant bruisers like Brandon Jacobs can run between [...]
