Get your brooms out; a much needed sweep is in the books for the Cardinals. St. Louis completed the three-game sweep with a 9-6 victory over Baltimore tonight. For the Cardinals, their first road sweep since August of 2010 propels them back into a first place tie with Milwaukee for the NL Central lead, having gained three games in three days on the Brewers. For the Orioles, they are now a season-worst eight games below the .500 mark with a record of 35-43. The Cards are now 4-5 without superstar Albert Pujols and 44-38 on the season. … [visit site [...]

NBA Lockout is coming
Written by Sam McPhee | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | King James Gospel (NBA)
We’ve sat through over 100 days of the NFL lockout, and it has been more boring than a Matthew McConaughey movie.
I don’t know how to spell his name OK and I’m not looking it up because he is just that boring. I have had to sit throug…

Tyson Chandler, Nene to become free agents
Written by Sam McPhee | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | King James Gospel (NBA)
Throw another two key names into the mix for the free agent pool for 2011. At least key names for the Miami Heat. The South Beach side are obviously targeting a few free agency coups and the position of the most importance is definitely center. Tyson Chandler has expressed no desire to leave the Mavericks, and even if he did I don’t think Miami would be an overly attractive place for him to play given his clear dislike of the team. Nene on the other hand is very intriguing. Obviously he is one of the top centers in the league, [...]
That’s More Like It!

It's been a tough season for Cardinals' ace Chris Carpenter so far, but things are starting to turn around at the perfect time. (Source: Bill Greenblatt/UPI Photo) If you had been told back on opening day that Chris Carpenter would have three wins and an ERA over five at the half way point of the season, would you have thought it possible that the Cardinals would even be in contention? Chances are, probably not. I would have thrown in the towel on the 2011 campaign right then and there, but not only are the Cardinals in contention, they’re tied with [...]
Jonathan Ericsson Re-Signs with the Detroit Red Wings
Written by Zac Snyder | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Detroit Jock City (Detroit)
The Detroit Red Wings have at least in part addressed some of their concerns on the blue line by re-upping with Jonathan Ericsson just hours before the unrestricted free agency period. TSN’s Bob McKenzie broke the news on twitter: DET agrees to terms with Jonathan Ericsson. Numbers not confirmed but believed to be three years at around $9.75M total. The money is probably higher than a lot would expect but an increase in the salary cap and a thinning market of defensemen made this deal possible. Like what you see? As we usher out June and usher in July, the NFL Lockout is still on but depending on who you believe, the Arizona Cardinals and the rest of the NFL could be close to a deal or could be as far away from a deal as they were when this whole thing started …

Taking the Next Step: Jake Odorizzi Promoted to Double A
Written by Michael Engel | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Kings of Kauffman (Royals)
Following a six inning, six strikeout performance on Thursday, Jake Odorizzi was promoted to Northwest Arkansas. A Carolina League All-Star, Odorizzi compiled a 2.87 ERA over 78.1 High A innings and had a 103/22 K/BB ratio. He’s been dominant all season in Wilmington, so this promotion isn’t much of a surprise. Odorizzi, our #8 prospect entering the season, leaves the Carolina League as its leader in strikeouts on the season and was in the top 10 of ERA leaders among starters. Of course, Odorizzi was part of the Zack Greinke trade last December and has launched himself into the spot [...]

Chris Harris, Earl Bennett and Lovie Smith Among NFC North’s Best
Written by Boomer | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Bear Goggles (Bears)
ESPN’s NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert has been selecting some of the NFC North’s bests, like Best Mascot (Rangor of the Vikings), Best Nickname (B.J. Raji’s The Freezer) and Best Rivalry (Bears-Packers – duh!). The Bears distinguished themselves in a handful of categories. Best Tweeter – Chris Harris The NFC North is packed with social media mavens. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, for instance, entertains the masses with “Jack Handey” quotes whenever he’s sitting in an airport. But Harris is probably the most prolific in our division, using Twitter to post serious thoughts on important NFL issues at one moment and [...]
