June in Review

Written by Jonathan Bohall | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Rays Colored Glasses (Rays)

Record: 16-11 The Rays improved upon their pedestrian May by posting a solid June. On June 2, they embarked on a long, long road trip that saw them travel to four different cities including flying to Detroit for a make-up game. They lost two of three to Boston, but then won eight of their next nine thanks to interleague play. It was also an odd month on the baseball schedule. They only played six games against the AL East and spent most of the month playing domes. They ended the month with 12 straight games against National League teams. That [...]

Written by Eugene Markman | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Broad Street Buzz (Flyers)

Just doesn't look right, does it? (Courtesy: zimbio.com)
Last year, we exiled Simon Gagne to Tampa. He suffered through injuries for most of the season, and didn’t become very effective until the playoffs rolled around. But he wasn’t r…

Written by Lauren Tilley | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Birds Watcher (Orioles)

After losing both games of the series to the Cardinals, the O’s are looking to bounce back and win a game to avoid a sweep and end the month of June with a positive and a win. A win would also end the month positively for Matusz who has lost 3 &#…

Houston Astros Mid-season Awards

Written by Brandon Croce | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Climbing Tal's Hill (Astros)

The Houston Astros have reached the midpoint of a disappointing 2011 season. I was cautiously optimistic about this team entering the 2011 season and thought they would struggle because they are a young team but still be competitive and show improveme…

Mike Cameron Won’t be Roaming the Outfield During the Dog Days of Summer

Written by Rick Meegan | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | BoSox Injection (Red Sox)

Mike Cameron never lived up to the billing the Sox were hoping to get when they signed him to a two year deal last year.  Last year was a bust when the aging center fielder only played in 48 games as his season ended on July 30th with a hernia injury….

Today’s Matchup – June 30, 2011

Written by Michelle Hoag | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Rox Pile (Rockies)

This a must-win rubber match for the Rockies. They need it to preserve their interleague record, continue to win series if they want to stay competitive in the division, and get Aaron Cook a win. Glad to see Helton in the lineup for his 2,000th ……

And Just Like That, Erhoff Is Gone

Written by John Panarese | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Eyes on Isles (Islanders)

Without a doubt, Christian Erhoff would have been a great addition to the Isles blue line. He would have been a top 2 defenseman on the team, and his presence surely could have helped the power play quite a bit. I will readily admit that I had a fairly thrilled reaction when I had read that the Islanders had gotten the rights to Erhoff. However, after he directly turned down an offer from the Isles, Snow traded his rights to Buffalo for a 4th round pick in 2012. I had read that it was something like a 6 million dollar [...]

Bengals HC Marvin Lewis Named AFC North’s Best Grinder

Written by C Byers | June 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Stripe Hype (Bengals)

ESPN’s AFC North writer James Walker took part of ESPN’s Best of week. In the write up Walker awarded “Best Ego Manager”, “Best Grinder”, “Best Hair”, “Best coach-GM Tandem” and “Best postgame-interview”. Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. (AP Photo/Don Wright, File) Obviously for a few of those categories Lewis has no shot in. Like Coach-GM tandem; since the Bengals don’t have a GM. Best postgame isn’t very likely either since Lewis is known for his boring interviews. Ego Manager; Ochocinco. For “Best Grinder” I can’t think of a coach in the AFC North who deserves that more. Look at the workout’s [...]
