Trade Deadline in Review For St. Louis

Written by Alex Brown | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Redbird Rants (Cardinals)

The 2011 MLB trade deadline has come and gone, and as always, there are clear winners and losers in its aftermath. With 14 teams within six games of a spot in the postseason, there was obviously a lot of buzz and rumors associated with this year’s deadline. Many players rumored to be on the block were dealt, but some big names surprisingly stayed put. At the end of the day, the trade deadline is all about general managers putting their teams in the best possible position for success both in the near and distant future. Strategies on how to go [...]

Fight For NL West: Diamondbacks vs. Giants

Written by Scott Allen | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Venom Strikes (DBacks)

The stage has been set.  San Francisco, California.  Three games.  They are not must-win’s, but lose two of three or get swept, it will be awful tough for the Arizona Diamondbacks to catch the San Francisco Giants in the National League West.

Harden Deal: What Would’ve Been

Written by Joseph Lopez | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)

After hearing rumors swirling around baseball on Saturday evening, I thought the Oakland Athletics were closing in on a deal that would send right-hander Rich Harden to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for 1B Lars Anderson and a player to be named later. With question marks surrounding Oakland’s first base situation, the deal, to me at least, seemed to make sense. And Harden, 29, would’ve been a nice pick up for Boston, a team in search for much needed pitching help. Unfortunately, the talks ultimately fell through, as the Red Sox did not like the reports on Harden’s medical [...]

Written by Justin Stine | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Ramblin' Fan (Rams)

There was some good news and some bad news to come out of Rams Park on Sunday. First, the bad news. The Rams placed first-rounder Robert Quinn on the non-football injury list with what the team is calling a “tweaked knee”. According to sour…

Hey, I’m back.Photo of the DayShawn Marion may have an ugly shot, but it’s hard to have an ugly dunk, so long as you make it. Also, for some reason, he’s the last member of the 2010-11 Mavericks I could name while trying out … […

Parise Signs, Kovalev Jets, and The Sens Get A New Scoreboard?

Written by Tony Mendes | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | SenShot (Senators)

Will he dance with the Devils long-term or find a new home next summer? One of this summer’s biggest RFA’s, Zach Parise has finally inked a new contract with the Devils. With his arbitration hearing set for August 3rd, Parise and the New Jersey Devils agreed to a one year, $6 million dollar contract this past Friday. With the one year deal, Parise can become a UFA next summer and go to whatever team he chooses. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said the two sides continue to talk in hopes of working out a long-term extension for the talented left winger. [...]

The Links that Never Were

Written by Eric Pleiss | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Puckett's Pond (Twins)

Well that certainly was a disappointing weekend.  After failing to pick up a series win in Texas, netting just a tie after dropping the finale, the Twins headed to Oakland.  Twins fans were hoping to pick up at least a pair of wins against a struggling Oakland team.  Unfortunately, after taking the series opener, the Twins starting pitching went south and Blackburn and Carl Pavano both turned in inadequate pitching performances and the Twins will spend their off day sulking before heading south along Interstate 5 to take on the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim. I spent the weekend out of town, [...]
