Written by Patrik Nohe | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Pewter Plank (Bucs)

Sorry for the lack of updates today, I’ve been busy with the July 31st ritual known as moving day. But, the Bucs wait for no man, no team, nothing and have been hard at work practicing and getting ready all day. Here’s the news and notes fr…

Is Philly the Team to Beat in the NFC?

Written by Keith Heumiller | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Inside the Iggles (Eagles)

Ok. Just hear me out. I know it’s bad form to write an article like this about any team – even if they’d just won the Superbowl – at the end of July. When we’ve only been out of the lockout for a week. When none of the players who make up this all-star squad have ever really played together, when a lot of them don’t even know the system let alone the particular packages they’ll be expected to run, when the team has a mere two weeks of training camp prior to its first preseason game, and [...]

Icing on the Cake: Jimmy Williams

Written by KP Kelly | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Cardiac Cane (Hurricanes)

Early this afternoon the Florida Jr Blades  tweeted it was Jimmy Williams’  birthday. Instantly I felt a pang of guilt. I religiously write birthday posts for the Hurricanes and Checkers players, but I had decided early on to restrict Icing on the …

Chris Houston Back in the Fold with Detroit Lions

Written by Nathan VanNorwick | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | SideLion Report (Lions)

It is being reported that Chris Houston has resigned with the Detroit Lions, filling yet another hole in the Detroit lineup.   While the reports are unconfirmed, it seems the deal is for two years and six million dollars.  While not the long term deal Chris Houston was searching for, you have to figure he is happy to be back with a Lions defense that should be much improved from last year.   And give props to the Lions, who seem to have a great understanding of  the market value for available players, and are willing to wait out free agents while [...]

The trade deadline passes with a thud

Written by Jason Leary | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)

So there you have it, one of the dullest trade seasons in recent A’s history.  The deadline has come and gone and all Oakland has to show for it is a lot of rumors that never came to pass, a Rich Harden deal that fell apart, and a minor move to send Brad Ziegler to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a couple of spare parts. I guess this speaks volumes to the quality of players that the A’s made available for trades and the rest of the league’s take on what  general manager Billy Beane was asking for in return. … [...]

After All of That, Nothing Happens

Written by Jonathan Bohall | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rays Colored Glasses (Rays)

The trade deadline has come and gone and the Rays are in tact. B.J. Upton, James Shields, Kyle Farnsworth, Joel Peralta and Casey Kotchman are still on the team. I enjoy the trade deadline, but I think these days we’re inundated with too much information. One tweet or news story will say that Upton with be trade. The next tweet or news story has Joe Maddon saying  he doesn’t believe a trade will happen. Even crazier, after Hunter Pence was traded to the Astros, everyone “in the know” was speculating Upton would go to Atlanta. A short time later, Michael [...]

Cubs Inactivity At The Deadline May Signal Changes

Written by Jordan Campbell | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Cubbies Crib (Cubs)

The non-waiver trade deadline has come and gone, and the Cubs did not make a single trade today. On top of that, there was no rumors about any possible trade for the Cubs. The only rumors were how the Cubs consistently told other teams “no” when asked about the likes of Carlos Marmol, Carlos Pena, and Marlon Byrd. In addition, Bob Nightengale told a local radio station today that there has been little if any trade discussions going on between the Cubs and other teams. While the Cubs inactivity at the deadline should enrage any fan, it also may give fans a [...]
