Brewers Trade Deadline Breakdown and weekend catch-up
Written by Lou Olsen | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Reviewing the Brew (Brewers)
In 2011, the Brewers charged into free agency with their swords drawn. Making the first “wave”, the Brewers traded for the record holder in most saves in a season (62), Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez. The deal was formally anounced just moments after the 2011 All-Star game came to an end. The move made many Brew Crew faithful believe more mega-deals were on the horizon. That could not have been more misleading. A few nights ago, All-Star second baseman, Rickie Weeks severly sprained his ankle on an unnecessary lunge to beat out a close play at first. This very unfortunate event once again [...]
Drew Storen remains a National, Nats fail to land centerfielder
Written by PennSkinsFan | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | DC Pro Sports Report (D.C.)
The MLB Trade deadline has passed and the Washington Nationals, despite a ton of chatter, failed to make a move to land the center fielder they coveted. Washington has been central to rumors on Minnesota’s Denard Span and Tampa Bay’s BK Upton. They did not get either. The asking price for acquiring Span from the Twin was pretty steep. Not only did they want Storen, but also wanted Roger Bernadina and minor league IF Steve Lobardozzi. Several reports had the Nats agreeing to Storen and Bernadine, but Lombardozzi was the breaking point. Lombardozzi was selected in the 19th round of [...]

Bills Sign Former Green Bay LB Nick Barnett
Written by Brad Andrews | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | BuffaLowdown (Bills)
Nick Barnett is heading to Buffalo. In a move that really can’t be looked at as anything but a positive, the Bills came to terms today with former Packer LB Nick Barnett. Barnett broke the news via his Twitter page. The always-on-the-spot Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the deal is worth $12 million over three years, with $6 million guaranteed. Barnett spent the weekend visiting in Buffalo and was apparently impressed. Via his Twitter page: “God has blessed me once again to be part of a great organization.. Great coaches, Great staff, Great players and more importantly great fans.” [...]
These Aren’t Your Father’s Arizona Cardinals
Written by Scott Allen | July 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Raising Zona (Cardinals)
When the Arizona Cardinals moved to Arizona from St. Louis in 1988, it was a great day for football fans in the State of Arizona. Sure, we weren’t getting the Pittsburgh Steelers or Dallas Cowboys, however we were getting NFL Football. What we quickly learned though was the Cardinals didn’t like to spend money. Like choosing Top Ramen over everything else kind of not liking to spend money. It was no secret it was difficult to get players to come to Arizona to play. Sun Devil Stadium was a college stadium, it was too hot to play there in September [...]
