It has been a little while since I have done this but I’ve decided to bring back the DOD mailbag so if you have any question pertaining to any of the major or minor league players in the Nationals organization drop me an email at scott_stewart81@yahoo.com Do you think the Nats are rushing Strasburg back too fast? -Jazmine Turner I’ve heard a lot of varying opinions on this topic and there are points to be made for each side but personally I’m fine with the way they are bringing him along in his recovery. If you listen to some people [...]
A’s Matsui Finally Starting To Produce
Written by Joseph Lopez | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Swingin' A's (Athletics)
The Oakland Athletics made a few moves before the start of the season in an attempt to revamp an offense in major need of some power. One of the guys the team landed in the offseason was veteran Hideki Matsui, and entering the season, the Athletics had some high hopes with Matsui penciled in the designated hitter spot. Oakland hasn’t had a productive DH since the days of Frank Thomas back in 2006, and while Jack Cust provided a little bit of pop for a few years after Thomas, the A’s haven’t been able to find a player as productive [...]

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Seedlings to Stars (Minor Leagues)
Harvesting Opinion is a regular feature on Seedlings to Stars. In this way, we make sure we regularly get to discuss hot-button issues relating to the systems of every team, as these go on a five-week cycle. Please note that any statistics used may be a day or two out of date, as we prepare our answers over the course of a week. In this edition, we [...]
Would Signing RB Peyton Hillis to a Long-Term Deal Be a Good Idea?
Written by Steve DiMatteo | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Dawg Pound Daily (Browns)
Now that the Cleveland Browns have locked up left tackle Joe Thomas with a seven-year extension, the team will turn its attention to signing other core players. Running back Peyton Hillis would appear to be the next in line to receive a new deal, as he is entering the final year of his rookie contract that will allow him to earn the four-year minimum of $555,000. But is signing Hillis to a long-term deal the right move for the Browns to make? With just one solid season under his belt – a season in which he ran for 1,177 yards with [...]

Braves August End On Positive Beat
Written by Fred Owens | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Tomahawk Talk (Braves)
After Jair Jurrjens disappointing performance on Tuesday many Braves fans were not looking forward to Derek Lowe taking the hill tonight. They were wrong. Lowe went six strong and gave up only one run on three hits – a homer to Mike Morse – struck out six and walked a pair. The slider was biting and the sinker killed a lot of worms out in front of home plate. Oh and Lower hit his first major league home run at the age of 38. Not bad at all, it looks like September Derek arrived a day early. Each of his [...]
Departed Twins: Where Are They Now? (Part 2)
Written by Wally Fish | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Puckett's Pond (Twins)
So many things have contributed to this collapse that it’s hard to recount all of them. For me, the primary reasons are the seemingly endless rash of injuries and the disappearance of Francisco Liriano as an average starter let alone the top of the rotation guy he was supposed to be. Certainly there’s plenty of room for debate and discussion to figure out exactly what went wrong but we know for certain that 15 players that contributed last year were not in the organization on Opening Day this spring. Would the team’s fortunes be different if any of these players [...]
