Pau Gasol Leads Spain Past Poland

Written by Chris Shellcroft | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Lake Show Life (Lakers)

Last night J.D. Martinez drove in three runs in the Astros 8-2 win over Pittsburgh. The rookie now has 29 RBIs in 29 big league games. His 28 RBIs for the month is an Astros rookie record. Martinez has a nice .295/.331/.518 line in 112 at-bats since be…

Rays Looking to Help Ailing Offense

Written by Jamie Newcomb | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Rays Colored Glasses (Rays)

Even with the Rays winning three straight in Toronto, Tampa is just 4-5 in their last nine games. In those five losses they have averaged a paltry 1.2 runs per game. The weak run production is a product of some poor numbers from key contributors. In h…

Prediction Time! My take on the Pac-12 for the 2011 Football Season

Written by Michael | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Golden Bear Lair (Cal)

I’ve never claimed to have a perfect crystal ball, but I won’t say I’m pulling names out of a hat either. With the season coming soon, here’s my stab at predicting the Pac-12 this year. I’ll never claim to be perfect either, but here’s my take on how the Pac-12 standings will be come Bowl Season, starting with the North division: #1 Oregon: It’s hard to argue with anyone who picks Oregon as front runner to win the Pac-12, but this is not a team devoid of flaws either. While Carson York and Mark Asper are back, the offensive line is [...]

Building A Ballclub With Bill Bavasi: Part IV

Written by Adam H. Wong | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | SoDo Mojo (Mariners)

Bill Bavasi stands in the middle of the war room.  His lackeys grunt as they shuffle past.  Leaflets are exchanged from person to person as the computer screen flashes an immeasurable amount of data.  The bald boss-man whispers over to his informants.  Everyone’s attention is drawn to a 52-inch plasma screen.  A wrinkly-old man approaches a podium.  He adjusts his glasses as he begins to speak. “With the fourth pick, in the first round of the two-thousand six first-year player draft – the Pittsburgh Pirates select Brad Lincoln, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Houston.  The Seattle Mariners are [...]

Reliever Chris Jakubauskas Shines in August

Written by Alex Van Rees | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Birds Watcher (Orioles)

Since right-handed pitcher Chris Jakubauskas relocated to the bullpen from the starting rotation at the beginning of July, he’s claimed a new role as one of the top relievers and long-men in the jumbled Baltimore Orioles’ bullpen. As a starting pitcher this season, he sports a 2-2 record with an inflated 6.91 ERA in six outings and opponents are hitting .315 off of him. Jakubauskas has tossed 27.1 innings as a starter while allowing 21 earned runs on 35 base hits, including four homeruns, 12 walks and 20 strike outs. Chris Jakubauskas pitches better away from Oriole Park as he [...]

Fun, Fun, Fun: Bolden vs. McGloin

Written by Patrick | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Victory Bell Rings (Penn State)

As you can tell from my title, I’m not a big fan of this topic as a whole.  Not that it isn’t important, but it’s just such a “beating a dead horse” debate.  It’s an argument filled with bias, and something that I don’t like to get into.  But, alas, I’ll give my thoughts on it just because that’s why I’m doing this blog…to give you guys my thoughts on PSU Football. Let’s start with McGloin.  Flat out, McGloin looks comfortable playing QB.  He may not have the best attributes to go along with that, but that’s besides the point. [...]
