Wonderlic Score Means Nothing Unless Terrelle Pryor Plays Quarterback
Written by Chris Shellcroft | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Just Blog Baby (Raiders)
Why the Wonderlic test is relevant remains a bigger mystery than why Norv Turner still has a job. Since when did it matter how quickly a football player can correctly answer non-football related questions? Maybe I’m missing the boat on this one but wouldn’t it make more sense to hand a prospective NFLer a playbook, ask the prospect to learn said book and then quiz him on it later? Anyhow… The point of this diatribe on the many reasons why the Wonderlic is pointless relates to the rumors floating around of Terrelle Pryor scoring a 7 on the infamous test. [...]

Julius Erving The Best Player In History?
Written by Dante Nelson | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Sixer Sense (76ers)
As some of you may know, I’m also a writer at Hardcourt Mayhem. One of my fellow bloggers there is working on a series called “Best Ever Series”. A couple days ago he mentioned Julius Erving. Here’s the link. And here’s a quote: Next of the candidates in line was the game’s ambassador of the 70′s who modernized basketball and created its own modern playing style. His name was Julius Erving. He was called the “Doctor” and “Dr J” because he operated on guys when he was on the court. His aerial acts, legacy, accomplishments and other things made him [...]

Written by Andrew Fruman | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Cruelest Sport (Boxing)
**** You want to see Floyd Mayweather take on Manny Pacquiao. Of course. We all do. But in this maddening sport, where nobody except those who run the business ever gets what they want, we’re going to have to settle for the next best thing. In th…

“I tend to believe that John Beck is going to get the first shot. When he came out of college I studied him quite a bit, and I can remember thinking ‘This guy looks like an NFL quarterback.’ Now does he have John Elway‘s arm? He…
Maybe Adrian Peterson’s Twitter Account Isn’t So Bad
Written by thevikingpig | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | The Viking Age (Vikings)
About a month ago Vikings fans were outraged for Adrian Peterson’s Twitter antics. Instead of replying to his followers and interacting with them, he “retweeted” nearly everything sent his way. Our top blogger
The Lesser-Known Caps in the System (Two of Two)
Written by M. Richter | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Capitals Outsider (Capitals)
Two weeks ago, I posted a look at the eleven invitees who were part of Group A at this summer’s Development Camp. Now attention turns to the victorious Group B, the red jerseys. Of the 23 men who made up this temporary team, more than half were unaffiliated invitees (15, in fact – a higher percentage than their white-shirted competitors). Without further ado… Allen, Conor (#58, D) Age: 21. Hometown: Chicago, Illinois. Repeat Offender – USHL Defensive Player of the Week. Competed for the USAH Tier 1 title with Team Illinois in 2008. Takes the college part of student-athlete just as [...]

Wes Timmons Deserves a Callup
Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Seedlings to Stars (Minor Leagues)
It seems that the Oakland Athletics have been looking for offense ever since Moneyball was published. Ever since Frank Thomas left town, the team’s offense seems to consist of one good “out of nowhere” slugger (Jack Cust, Brandon Allen), failed veteran rentals (Jason Giambi, Emil Brown, David DeJesus), and a whole bunch of mediocre or worse hitters. The addition of Allen, Josh Willingham, and Hideki Matsui has given Oakland a few decent power bats this season, and Jemile Weeks and Cliff Pennington have proven to be adequate middle infield bats, but the team saw DeJesus, Daric Barton, and Kevin Kouzmanoff [...]
How well do you know your Sharks history? Part 1 – Coaches
Written by Alex Schirru | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Blades of Teal (Sharks)
Image from deviantart.com As we move forward to the current NHL season, I wanted to take a look at the history of our favorite hockey team. This will be a multi-part series of articles that will include a look back on the Sharks’ main coaches, General Managers, big trades, and anything else interesting in the 21-year history of the franchise. There is no doubt that the Sharks have left their mark on the NHL, from introducing the league to the teal color palette, to providing big playoff upsets, to being one of the model franchises in the league. [...]

LaMarr Woodley Graces Cover of SI but Ravens Favored to Win AFCN
Written by Craig | August 31, 2011 | Comments Off | Nice Pick, Cowher (Steelers)
It’s been spreading around quickly that LaMarr Woodley is featured on Sports Illustrated’s September cover for SI’s NFL Preview. As well he should be. LaMarr is THE up and coming LB in the NFL. He continues to improve from season to season and just signed a nice six year deal worth over $60 million. LaMarr had 50 tackles, 10 sacks (only James Harrison had more with 10.5), 3 forced fumbles, and 2 INT’s (one returned for a TD). He works the outside like he owns it. The duo of Harrison and Woodley leaves no outside safe for any offense. Congrats [...]
