It is early in the 2011 NFL season. We are only three games in, and the Cleveland Browns have offered us a variety of different glimpses of what this team can be. It started with a disappointing opener against the Bengals, full of mistakes, but the &#8…

Dallas Cowboys Center Phil Costa Gets a Pep Talk from an Unlikely Source

Written by Steven Mullenax | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Landry Hat (Cowboys)

Dallas Cowboys’ center Phil Costa had one of the worst performances of his short two year career on Monday Night. Maybe one of the worst in NFL history. Against the Washington Redskins, Costa’s snaps to QB Tony Romo were in a word: inconstant. And that’s being nice. Despite winning the game, many Cowboy fans were calling for Costa’s head! But one call he didn’t expect  to get was from the very man he replaced. In the preseason Costa replaced veteran and five-time pro bowler Audre Gurode as the Cowboys’ starting center. Gurode was released and bounced around a bit before [...]

Titans Fans: Don’t ‘Hassle’ Hasselbeck

Written by seagle1 | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Titan Sized (Titans)

How excited are Titans fans about the acquisition of Matt Hasselbeck now?  Heading into the season many fans that I talked to were scratching their heads and wondering why in the world the front office wanted to sign an old vet like Mr. Hasselbeck. &#…

Written by Taylor Barbour | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Cat Crave (Panthers)

It wasn’t good news on Friday when the Carolina Panthers released their injury report as it seems the team will be without their top defensive back in Chris Gamble. Gamble sustained a concussion in the game against the Jaguars and has been limite…

Previewing Maryland-Towson

Written by petevolk | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Terrapin Station (Maryland)

Image from the AP. Coming into the season, 1-2 was not an unreasonable expectation for Maryland’s record heading into the Towson game. Miami and West Virginia were both solid teams, and the Terrapins would probably have an adjustment period to their new coaching staff. After defeating the Hurricanes at home in a great game in the season opener, however, expectations rose. A comeback attempt against West Virginia fell short, but hope still remained. All of it is now gone, however, as the Temple Owls came in to College Park and destroyed all positive momentum with a 38-7 drubbing. Now Maryland [...]

Under Armour Releases ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ Cleats [Photo]

Written by Josh Sanchez | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | NFL Spin Zone (NFL)

The fine folks at Under Armour have released their NFL cleats for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Some players will be wearing these throughout the month of October to show their support and bring recognition to the fantastic cause. Here is a photo of the Under Armour cleats, courtesy of CNBC’s Darren Rovell: Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton also has a special pair of Under Armour cleats. They look more like an awful pair of Uggs that you would see young girls wearing on the streets, but hey, at least Cam is suiting up for a good cause. Maybe it [...]

Around The NHL In 30 Days: Jetting Home.

Written by Frank Rekas | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Rat Trick (Panthers)

Image Source: National Post.com Today is the final day of our FanSided Around the NHL In 30 days.  The final season preview by Steve Fetch covers the Winnipeg Jets at our site called Hockey At The Forks.  If you live in Winnipeg you know what that means. The excitement of having professional hockey back this Canadian City has caused quite a stir among fans both in Winnipeg and throughout NHL fandom.  It’s been 15 years since the Jets left for Phoenix when the city just couldn’t support a team.  Things are different now, and while I do feel bad for [...]

NFL TV Maps For Week 4

Written by Keith Myers | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | 12th Man Rising (Seahawks)

Here are the TV maps for this weekend’s games. I’ve got to make sure I do my shout out to the guys the506.com who put these together. I’ve gotta say, I seriously don’t understand the NFL’s TV rules. I thought I did, but apparently I really don’t. Everyone in Seattle only gets 2 games this week. Seriously, I really just don’t get why the NFL doesn’t let everyone have access to 4 games per weekend. In my opinion it’s just stupid. For the 3rd week in a row, it looks like CBS thought that seeing Matt Hasselbeck play was more important to [...]

This Week’s Picks in the Pac-12

Written by Jeff Taylor | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Husky Haul (Washington)

As I mentioned in the blurb I posted earlier in the week, I am currently 32-5 in picking the winner of Pac-12 games.  But, to be fair, many of those games were against inferior FCS opponents, so picking the Pac-12 team to win was usually a safe bet (save for the Oregon State debacle against Sacramento State). To compare, Husky football guru Bob Condotta is also 32-5 right now, so it isn’t like I am exceeding the expectations of the experts. However, unlike Bob, all of these picks were ones I made before the season began, not a week-by-week adjustment. [...]
