The Atlanta Braves are on drugs, Marlins need to take advantage

Written by Ehsan Kassim | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Marlin Maniac (Marlins)

Editor’s note: Ehsan is speculating here, and any thought of a trade of this kind would be HIGHLY unlikely. We can dream, but we should all also be realistic. -MJ I woke up this morning and saw Buster Olney’s daily column. Usually I just read through it and move on with my day. However, today one tidbit Olney mentioned really caught my attention. He has been viewed an organizational building block, but he struggled through injuries and slumps in 2011, and there are voices within the franchise asking the question of whether he can be counted on. With Chipper Jones nearing the [...]

The Case Against Signing C.J. Wilson

Written by Ben Berkon | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Rising Apple (Mets)

With the exception of Mike Pelfrey (4.55 xFIP), the rest of the Mets rotation was pretty darn solid in 2011. Jonathon Niese posted a 3.28 xFIP, R.A. Dickey a 3.95 xFIP, Chris Capuano a 3.67 xFIP, and rookie Dillon Gee a 4.46 xFIP. With Johan Santana hopefully back in the fold next season, a rotation of Santana, Niese, Dickey, Gee, and a free agent would be very respectable. However, given the dearth of good free agent pitchers, C.J. Wilson is far and away the “ace” of free agency. It’s only natural to want to sign “the best,” but one has [...]

Cowboys vs. Lions Preview: 5 Things to Watch For on Defense

Written by C. Joseph Wright | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | The Landry Hat (Cowboys)

Can the Cowboys be the first to hold him to less than 2 TDs? 1.  Can the secondary stop contain Calvin Johnson? Johnson is one of the better receivers in the game; he has 6 TD’s already this season. When the two teams met last season, Johnson had six receptions for less than 50 yards and 1 TD. Shaun Hill was the QB during that game. At 6’5” and 235 pounds, Johnson presents the same problems as Plaxico in week 1, except that Johnson is a way better receiver. Both Newman and Jenkins are 5’10”; both are at least 30 [...]

The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of: Zach McAllister

Written by Nathaniel Stoltz | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | Seedlings to Stars (Minor Leagues)

Many popular opinions of pitching prospects are formed from general scouting reports. While these reports are invaluable resources, they can’t always be trusted. Hundreds of minor league hurlers are credited with “mid-90′s velocity,” but very few MLB starters actually have that grade of heat, for example. It’s incredibly frustrating to hear about a pitcher with “a mid-90′s heater and plus curve,” only to have him come up to the big leagues and show a fastball that averages 90.5 mph and a slider. When a pitcher come up to the majors, we can finally get a foolproof reading on what exactly [...]

Maloof’s Should Be Embarassed By Sister Adrienne

Written by Bryan R | September 30, 2011 | Comments Off | A Royal Pain (Kings)

It wasn’t that long ago that the Maloof family could do no wrong. They, themselves, were an extension from the purple and black product on the floor. They were universally loved by the fans and community (for the most part). Sure, there were always little oddities that made you raise a ‘brow, but you looked past that – I mean, they were the Maloof’s – we loved them. But then like a wavering relationship, rumors of infidelity surfaced. Ah well, we said – it’s not true. Many want what we have – it’s just other cities attempting to pry it [...]
