The X Games give us some of the most exciting moments in sports throughout the course of the many events in summer and winter X. This summer, we got to see skateboarding great Bob Burnquist take the gold in the “Big Air” competition,  with a switch backside 180 ollie over the 65-foot gap and then finishing with a  forward-to-fakie indy grab 720.

Summer X also brought us one of the gnarliest crashes in recent memory, when rally car driver Toomas Heikkinen came up short on a 50-foot gap during practice runs for RallyCross. Here is video of the wreck:

Amazingly, the 21-year-old Heikkinen escaped the carnage with only a broken ankle and some minor abdominal injuries. Heikkinen had previously finished up services with the Finnish military and was an X Games rookie. I’m sure we will be hearing this youngsters name in future X Games.
