In a shocking deal before the deadline (well depending on who you talk to), the New York Yankees have sent two minor league pitchers to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for star Ichiro Suzuki.

Ichiro is int he final year of his contract and there has been much debate in Seattle as to how much he’s worth. Ichiro has remained loyal to the mariners ever sine he arrived in 2001, but the Mariners haven’t been able to succeed during his tenure. The outfielder has been experiencing declining numbers which called some Mariners fans to seriously question the multi-year deal he wanted from Seattle.

YANKEES GET:

MARINERS GET:

  • OF – Ichiro Suzuki

  • P – D.J. Mitchell
  • P – Danny Farquhar
  • Cash

His contract won’t be of much conversation now, since Ichiro will be in pinstripes as soon as he lands in New York and the trade is completed. New York has been in need of more depth and with Ichiro now heading to an outfield that already includes the speedy Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner.

Despite his declining numbers, Ichiro may see a resurgence given his new scenery. He never truly developed into the media darling superstar he showed flashes of becoming when he landed in Seattle — but that’s very much thanks to the Mariners losing ways.

Now that he’s in New York, Ichiro may not only finally become a veteran superstar that gets the attention he’s always deserved, but he may be able to finally get a World Series ring.
