UConn Head Coach Calhoun Breaks Hip in Crash

by NCAA Basketball

UConn Huskies head basketball coach Jim Calhoun broke his hip Saturday when his bike slid on a patch of sand.

University of Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun broke his hip this morning in a bicycle accident, sending the legendary coach to the hospital and taking him out of commission mere hours before he had to coach in a charity game.

It’s not the first time Calhoun has had a serious accident while biking. Back in 2009 he broke several ribs when he crashed during a charity bicycle ride.

The injuries Calhoun suffered are nowhere near life threatening but he’s expected to take it easy in terms of coaching for the time being. But the chances that he tries to get back to the charity event are pretty high. The benefit is for a Cardiology Center named after he and his wife which is located at the UConn Health Center.

Calhoun was biking when he reportedly hit a patch of sand and fell to the concrete. He had surgery in the very medical center that his charity benefits.
