Game three of our four game basketball bonanza is in the books and it stayed true to the theme of nail bitters we’ve seen so far today. In another game that came down to the fourth quarter,
Manu Ginobili led the way for victorious Argentina, draining seven buckets total and going perfect from the free throw line in a 16 point performance. The scoring was more even on the Argentinian side as opposed to the Brazilian side. Marcelinho Huertas and Leandro Barbosa both led the way with 22 points apiece but there was basically no production off the bench for the Brazilian’s — a factor that proved to be a difference maker.
Luis Scola scored 17 points off the bench for Argentina which was almost enough to outscore the entire Brazilian bench all on his own. Argentina’s bench outscored that of Brazil’s 36-32 with Leandro Barbosa leading the Brazil bench in scoring with 22 points.
Brazil outscored Argentina in the final quarter, two players scored 22 points and Nene even grabbed 12 rebounds for Brazil but it still wasn’t enough to take down Argentina — a team that’s supposed to give the American’s a run for their money in the race for the gold.
That’s looking like a possibility now that Argentina has moved on to the semifinals and has guaranteed themselves a shot at a medal. But they won’t settle for a shot at bronze, they want the gold and a dream semifinals showdown between Argentina and Team USA is now so close, fans can taste it. The only thing that stands in the way is Australia.
