Sprint Cup star Carl Edwards made his first start of the season for the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Saturday aftenoon, Edwards took the track under the Nationwide banner and came away victorious in the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glenn. Edwards was able to hold off Brad Keselowski on the final two laps to take the checkered flag.
“This is huge for us,” Edwards said. “This win means a lot.”
A caution flag was brought out after Austin Dillon blew his right front tire. It set up for the final showdown between Edwards and Keselowski. Pole-sitter Sam Hornish Jr. finished the race in third, while Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Ron Fellows rounded out the top five.
The win was Edwards’ 38th victory in the Nationwide Series. The win breaks a tie with Kevin Harvick and Edwards now holds sole possession of the third spot on the NASCAR Nationwide Series all-time win list.
