Dolphins Cut Chad Johnson After Arrest

His actual marriage might be as short lived as that of his one with the Miami Dolphins. Sources have informed Fansided that the Dolphins have cut wide receiver Chad Johnson following his arrest last night for domestic violence.

Johnson and his new wife Evelyn Lozada got into a heated argument last night after Lozada found a receipt for condoms in Johnson’s car. The two fought verbally before Johnson head butted her so hard that he lacerated her forehead. Lozada ran to the shelter of a neighbor’s home and called Miami police. Johnson was arrested and booked soon after.

It was Johnson’s first major arrest but it couldn’t have been timed worse for the former Pro Bowler. His career is on the skids and his shot with Miami was viewed as a last one of sorts. Now that the Dolphins have cut him after basically no one rang him up during the offseason, Johnson’s career in the NFL is likely over.

The Dolphins are the subject of this year’s HBO show Hard Knocks and head coach Joe Philbin is trying to set the right tone in South Beach as he begins a new era in Dolphins football. Philbin was noted as saying he wasn’t pleased with Johnson’s language but that pales in comparison to Johnson’s arrest for abusing his wife on Saturday.

Philbin said earlier on Sunday that he would be meeting with the arrested receiver, but nothing was heard after that up until the news of Johnson’s release was made public knowledge.

By cutting Johnson and not allowing a sideshow clown act to dominate the tone of his new team, Philbin is already off to a powerful start as a head coach. Johnson, on the other hand, is on his way out as an NFL wide receiver.
