Who says women can’t ball hard?
Newly elected Phoenix mayor Greg Stanton has been lobbying for a roster spot with WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury for a while now, even posting up an in good spirits video on the Mercury website claiming he has a “better jump shot then Barack Obama”.
The Mercury figured, why not and let him join one of their practices. Everything was going fine until the mayor went into the paint and up for a rebound against Nakia Sanford. The mayor went up but he didn’t come down with the ball, rather he came down with blood streaming down his face.
Nakia Sanford had broken the nose of the mayor.
Stanton was still in good spirits about the whole bit, tweeting a photo of him tending to his bleeding nose and even making a crack about it in the sly, politician style.
“My biggest mistake was thinking I could actually get a rebound,” Stanton said. “As I now know, they’re tough.”
Because before that, the thought of a 6-foot-4 woman was what, amusing? This isn’t one of those situations where Stanton got what was coming to him, because this was all in good spirits. But Stanton now knows to stay off the basketball court.
Especially if Nakia Sanford is standing in his way.
